CrazyRioter she/her Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 *Spoliers (sort of) Cosmere terms follow* There are many of us that think that Seons are Splinters of Aona, but that is just our guess. It is possible to have splinters without shattering the shard. The "super breath" that the Returned have are actually Splinters of Endowment, yet he's still up and kicking (as far as we know). So maybe there's two types of Splinters. There's the type that's given (presumably at a sacrifice) from Shards, there's those that arise after a Shard is splintered (what verb does Hoid use when describing Aona?). So maybe Syl is a remnant from the past, but she hasn't been around anyone of honor, so she hasn't bonded to anyone like she has with Kaladin. Or maybe, she's a recent Splinter from when the Almighty died. Or maybe she isn't a Splinter at all. Isn't speculation fun? It seems to me like Syl must have been around when the Radiants were, judging by some of he comments about bits and pieces she does remember, why she (and the other spren that were associated with the powers of the Radiants) apparently hasn't/haven't bonded with anybody in so long is unknown. And we know it's possible for a Shardholder to give up bits of it's power on purpose while it's still alive, witness Endowment and the Returned from Warbreaker.
Zas678 he/him Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 In case you have turned a blind eye to that disaster, know that Aona and Skai are both dead, and that which they held has been Splintered. Hey, the wiki is coming in handy! Huh. I never noticed the specific wording on that. "What they held has been splintered". So Aona didn't Splinter into whatever Splinters they are, Aona's shard Splintered. That's interesting.
Chaos he/him Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 It also supports our term Shardholder for being incredibly convenient, too.
