She gave him a quick hug, eyeing the other person. "You feeling okay? Is the bond too much?"

He shrugged and moved over to a lectern, blowing the dust off the book. It was written in an unfamiliar language, but he picked up the small wooden bear paperweight. Outside the windows was a view of a small town from high above, as if the room were in a tower. The town was quiet and empty, at least for the moment. Beyond it lay stretches of open plains and rolling hills.

She walked over and looked out the window.

"Oo . . ."

Vey picked up another paperweight--- a smooth wooden pyramid. "I like this one. I've never been here before."

"I can't let go of the energy... It's trying to change me."

"Are these places real . . . somewhere?"

"They're echoes of those places," he said, tracing the windowsill with his fingers. "Supposedly there are ways to get to the real ones from here... but I don't know how. I've never tried."

Stea flew off his shoulder and alighted on a bookshelf.

"Strange."

She looked over at Stea and got excited.

"Oo! Books!"

She rushed over and plucked one off the shelf.

This one was in a language she could read. It discussed theory of something called Cosmic Debt.

Vey opened the window, letting a chilly breeze into the room. It helped significantly with the warm stuffiness.

"Yeah. It might be bad. That's why it's scaring me."

"Cosmic debt, huh?" she muttered to herself.

She looked around as the breeze swept through.

Besides the mess . . . this was actually a pretty cozy place.

She closed the book and walked over to an armchair covered in dust.

"Hey, wanna see something cool?"

He cried out, apparently in pain. The light around him dissipated, and he slumped into her. "Break away."

She supported him best she could, rubbing his back. “TAAron— you okay?”

Vey turned and nodded eagerly. “I’d love to.”

“Good.” She led him over to the wall. “Here, you should sit down.”

TAAron kept eyeing the soldier as she moved him.

She sat down next to him, also on alert, and wrapped her arm around his shoulders.

TAAron took deep breaths. "Maybe if I let it happen... I could help fight? I wouldn't have to be worried about using my abilities. But... I'm scared."

"I don't want you to change," she whispered.

"You might want to cover your nose and mouth," she said as she did just that with one hand.

He followed suit.

Aora placed her other hand on the filth and Revealed the armchair underneath-

-which caused the dust and dirt to explode into the air in all directions.

She grinned once the majority of it had settled and brushed bits of dirt off her face.

He brushed the dust off himself, eyes wide. "Wow! That's amazing!"
