She was getting desperate. She dove for the ground.

They followed her, copying what she did almost exactly.

They got closer and closer as the ground approached

She didn't make it in time. They caught up to her.

They transformed into people again, grabbing the crystal bird and stuffing it in a cage. One of them radioed in. "Target captured, sir."

Whatever would keep her in

They're trained to fight her specifically

She didn’t smile back.

He drops the smile. "Not a very good situation, is it."

Gotcha

Haly would have sworn, but she couldn’t as a bird. And the stupid cage wouldn’t let her fly through it.

Aora rushed out.

". . . Thanks."

“No prob.” He closed the barn door. It was night outside, and the air was slightly chilly with a warm breeze. Trees rustled, paper lanterns blowing on some of the branches.

She looked around, confused.

"Wait . . . wasn't there . . . a hallway here before?"

I thought he took her out the barn door mb

“Through the other door. If you go too far, you’ll end up back in the hallway.”

TAAron went tense where he was, feeling her panic. She could feel his fear for her, then determination. Part of him still worried about what Lerac had said, but he has to get to get it she was in trouble. Golden light began to rise around him.

"Oh. Weird." She looked around at the nighttime landscape and sky.

"It's beautiful out here."

He nodded. “I’ve always liked this one. Thought the barn would be a great place for a party.” He grinned. “I never thought I’d actually get to use it, though!”

She felt something through the connection and sent some concern and uncertainty. She also tried to project a false sense of peace or safety or something.

If she tries hard enough she can probably get a concrete message across, if not exactly words

She nodded also and sat on the grass. "So this isn't a real place, then? Or at least not fully. What kinds of rooms are through the other doors?"

“Uh… there’s one that comes out onto a big tree trunk. There are giant branches and tunnels inside them, and that one’s cool. There are some with monsters. Most of them are just nice, though.”

She managed something akin to “don’t come, I’m okay”.

He worried that she was just saying that to protect him, and he had already started regardless. He felt that pressure, his magic trying to make him into something which he was not. He entered that strange crystalline world of souls and connections, and used his connection with Haly to find her.

She was in some kind of strange magic cage outside with the warrior army people.

His mind raced trying to think of what he should do. Could he transport her out? Depending on what the cage was, that might have unforseen consequences.

He decided he would have to be there in the flesh, and made connections in space to bring himself physically to where he watched in this world, just a short distance from Haly's cage. He appeared in a flash of golden light.
