Before he hits the ground, Veer looks straight at him and he hovers into the air. “Back to the infirmary, I suppose. I should get the spellsteel rash checked out, anyway.”

Lerac left the courtyard. Once he reentered the Clinic hallways, he searched for a secluded corner and, finding one, sank to the ground against the wall and began to cry.

When they started to walk, Par groggily came to, although still not in any shape to walk. He saw Veer and yelled out in a slurred voice. “Hi. Where are we going?

The man who had arrived in the clinic heard this, and immediately turned and ran in Par’s direction. When he saw him prone, he grinned, then addressed Veer. “If you will excuse me, I have… business with this man.”

I think Lerac is a bit too out of the way for them to stumble across him, since he's fully in a dead end corner of the Clinic and they're going somewhere.

Clay looks at the newcomer strangely. "Excuse me for asking, but how did you get here? Outside is just a void?"

"Anyway, he has money now, certainly enough to pay you back."

“But is it enough to pay for the price of telling an outsider of our business?” The man cracked a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

"All he said is that he was in debt. Nothing more."

The man relaxed, and looked at Par, who was regaining his senses. Par spoke. “Charlie? What are you doing here? I… wait! I have money now!”

He tossed the bag of coins to Charlie, who looked in the bag and scowled. “And what am I supposed to do with these? They’re worthless in LA.”

Right thanks

“But I think we should see if there’s another way.”

"How is pure gold worthless anywhere? That's enough gold to buy a horse and a week's worth rations!"

Charlie snorted. “And what do I tell people? I got these mysterious coins that are made of gold through completely legal means? I’m not the type to collect gold curiosities…

“Wait. A horse and a week’s worth of rations? When do you think we are, the 1500s?”

“Charlie… were you the nice one, or the one who cuts off fingers? He didn’t tell me about the business - I assume you work for the king - but he did explain that someone cut his finger off. It was mixed with tales of chess playing dragons, but I think the world would probably be better off without you.” Veer takes out a silver circlet with prismatic reflections and spins it around his finger menacingly.

“I’m shocked he can get that much. Gold is pretty, I suppose, but it’s not strong enough to be useful.”

"By the count of the scribes in my homeland, it's the year 753. I'm starting to think, though, that we are nowhere near my homeland."

Charlie stared at Veer, then laughed. “I guess we are in the 1500s. Gold is very valuable, but it is used in inventions. I am not afraid of you… peasant.”

Charlie pulled a handgun out of his jacket.

Charlie shot a bullet at his feet, making sure to miss, as a warning. The gun is suppressed. “And you better learn it.”

"Alright, that's enough trying to make peace." In a blink, Clay pulls a wicked looking bone knife from a fold in his clothes and stands behind Charlie with the knife to his throat.

"You're going to leave, and you're going to do it quickly. Nobody threatens my friends."

A second man strolls in. “Can’t let you do that.” A shot is fired, and the arm holding the gun was bloodied.

Meanwhile, Par had got to his feet and was staring at them. “Don’t hurt him!”

It was unclear who he was referring to.

“That is a very interesting device. It won’t help you, though.” Veer puts the spellsteel circlet on his head.

“Don’t kill him yet. We’ll have to interrogate him to find the others.”

Using his powers, Veer redirects the bullet into the ground. “Both of you, drop the devices or I will make the next shot turn around and kill you.”

They dropped them. “Fine. But let us have our business with Partition here.”

"You forfeited your business with him when you threatened to kill him. I'm all for peaceful discussion, but now I have to ask, yet again, for you to leave."
