She waved dismissively. "N-no, it's f-ine. You need to g-o..."

"I'll be fine. You just went through sometime traumatic. Another something traumatic. This one I know more about, at least. I can stay a little while."

She rested her forehead on her clasped hands and sighed.

Lerac leaned back against the table leg, still sitting on the floor where she had propped him up before. He seemed tired.

She could notice that there was no noticeable effect on him when he healed her after she touched the dagger

"Why.. didn't anything happen to you just now?"

He blinked. "Oh. Right. I think it's a consequence of my being the avatar of Death. That fire is his magical essence. I can heal it without really feeling the consequences, just like I can safely touch the dagger. It's... tiring, though."

"I see."

She looked down at the book in front of her. She no longer felt like reading.

He looked over at her, seeming worried. "You don't have to tell me something is okay if it's not. I want to be here for you."

She smiled a little. “It’s… this part isn’t okay. But Mitis got better, and… and the wo st part for me was that I missed you.”

He gently squeezed her hand.

Her dream faded.

The scene became a familiar one. A cliff overlooking a forest, near the Tower of Ghenjei. TAAron's younger self sat on a stone across from Lerac. This was back when he was dying. It was also back when Lerac had a habit of messing with people. TAAron listened in to the conversation as his former self spoke.

"Why won't you tell me?"

Dodging the question, Lerac asked his own. "How do you feel about Haly?" Looking back on this memory, TAAron could see his sly smile.
