Do you think that Ta'verenness can be spiked? Testing that hypothesis is my next project although finding a Ta'veren is storming difficult. This project is very important because obtaining the ta'veren ability for myself will be very useful in my future hemalurgical projects.

Always remember that everything and everyone can be spiked.

Some things are just more difficult, however, hence why hemalurgic research is a thing. Some spikes need to be placed in exactly the right location, and if you don't have atium, you additionally need to discern exactly the right alloy of spike to use.

Trial and error is a time-tested way to learn hemalurgy, although it burns through a lot of test subjects. You can speed up the trial and error process by gaining connection to the shard of Ruin, as this gives you some degree of intuition about how to use spikes. Some experimentation will still be necessary, but it lets you allocate test subjects more efficiently.

And that's where our highly developed clone and parallel-universe-extricator programs come in handy!

First-time lurker here. Thanks for the cookie! It had delicious hints of tormented souls, mingled with the crippling dread of non-being. The chunks of unrequited time spent in unseemly internet hovels added a nice touch, too. I've got to ask, how do you do it? And what, exactly, does lurking here entail? Do I introduce myself, just jump right in, talk about Lord of the Rings, initiate rap-battles...?

Sorry for the delayed response, time distortions playing havoc in the labs recently. Blasted Chronobots can't seem to grasp the difference between a minute and a decade.

Anyways, Welcome new Denizen! Glad to hear our goods were not wasted on one such as yourself. Our purpose here is the pursuit of the greatest of sciences, which we go about by doing many of the things you listed and more. Selling goods at the introduction threads is a good place to start, then follow wherever your research lead you!

Would this be the right place for me to hatch my plans to conquer Sel using a massive army of "Kalad's Phantoms" type warriors? All I'll need are a few hundred thousand breaths and some spikes to make me an Elantrian. I figure with the right black-market inter-world trading I should be able to buy myself enough Breaths. And Hemalurgy will take care of the rest. *laughs maniacally*

On a more serious note: I'm a fan of finding ways to use different magic systems together (thus the hemalurgy), and have spent quite a bit of time theorising about the Selish magics.

If Science is your aim, then you have indeed come to the right place! See the quartermaster for any research materials you might need, he should be in this plane of existence.

Welcome to the Madness.

I was wondering if we are able to sell hemalurgic creations in an effort to bring in funding. It appears that much revenue could be generated by selling Hemalurgic beavers.

Would someone elaborate the contents of this dark alley?

Basically, our purpose is to advance the science of Hemalurgy. We accomplish this, by luring people into this dark alley with cookies that have hemalurgic spikes in them.

What if they don't like cookies? What if they prefer lobster? Would you then spike the lobster?

I'm not that sure, to tell you the truth I am a relatively new member of the DA. I assume that the risk is higher due to the fact that the lobster has bind points. With cookies and other baked goods we can just bake the spikes into them.

This is a most unusual situation for a hemalurgist baker to be in. That said, if the lobster is already dead, it should be safe to put spikes in it.

Has anyone here conducted experiments on how live lobsters respond to various types of hemalurgic spike?

I haven't conducted experiments on lobster, due to the excessive waste in test subjects needed in order to map out the bind points. Also it appears that we have been rafo'd about whether or not Hemalurgy can bring something back from the dead. Additionally we are bakers, and I'm not sure if our facilities are equipped to produce other types of spiked food besides baked goods.

I'm glad to see that the fires of the Dark Alley ovens have been rekindled. I want to welcome all the newly recruited Dark Alley agents. Happy spiking!

However, for those who don't like cookies, we also have brownies, cake, scones, donuts, bread (jam anyone?), bagels and baguettes.

And hemalurgic eclairs. Those are definitely my favorite.

So,  how do I join?

It's easy. Do you want a cookie or an eclair? Same hemalurgic nutritional value, different tastes.

Now, eat it, and if you feel something prick you, ignore it.

There you go! You've just been spiked recruited!

Is there still any of the leadership active, or are we all freelance hemalurgists bakers?

I'm always around but the alleys have always been a free place, we don't really have leadership.

Our leader is Ruin

Correction: Our founder is Ruin. [Mistborn Era 1 SPOILERS:]

Spoiler

Alas, his former Vessel is currently in the Beyond, and his power is currently enslaved by Sazed, aka Harmony. This is the core reason for our lack of official leadership.

Edit: Realised this is in one of the Community Forums, so I added a spoiler warning and hid the spoiler.

Does that make us the sworn enemies of Harmony?

SPOILERS: Mistborn Eras 1 and 2.

Spoiler

I'm not sure. So far he hasn't stopped us from using Hemalurgy. In fact, he uses it himself. So, in some ways, you could say he is also a member.

Also, just because Ruin is our founder, and the Lord Ruler is one of our primary historical figures doesn't mean that Sazed (who opposed them both) can't be on our side. After all, anyone who promotes the use of Hemalurgy is helping us. So if someone person backstabs (or backspikes ) another user of Hemalurgy, it doesn't immediately make him our enemy.

So, for now, I'd say that Harmony is on probation until we can figure out if he is promoting the use of Hemalurgy in the Cosmere. I mean, he did get Marsh to give Marasi and Wax the book on Hemalurgy.

So, yea, unsure of that one. Maybe we should make a Poll?

Spoiler

Well, on one hand, he does give information about hemalurgy to people.

On the other hand, he was content to allow hemalurgy to be a forgotten art for all the years prior to that.

He may not want hemalurgy to disappear, but he does certainly seek to limit its use.

Thus, I think we are not sworn enemies of Harmony, but we aren’t really on very good terms with Sazed either.
