So...I had a question about Hemalurgy and I thought I'd take it to the experts.

Using only canon information, does any bit of metal piercing the body open the door to Ruin's influence, or is Ruin's direct influence restricted to those bearing Hemalurgic spikes?

There's no direct canon answer that I know of, but Ruins influence is caused by a 'hole' to the soul resulting from having another piece of soul stapled on or just from being crazy so I'd say almost certainly just hemalurgic spikes, without the intent and being stabbed through someone else first I don't think metal would damage your soul.

We may want to set up some more defensive measures, for it seems that someone is planning on robbing us. Although my new spiked and lifeless guard dogs, pangolins and goliath bird eaters should be sufficient.

We'll activate the temporal distortion fields. Anyone who get's caught in one instantly ages 500 years. So make sure you don't step on the wrong floor tile, or our janitor sloths will have to clean up annoying little piles of dust.

If they can get through the temporal-spatial distortions, the Investiture sensory array, the Kandra guards and the Aluminum lined safes then they deserve whatever they can get.

Not to mention the delayed Aon Tia that teleports them back after 3 hours. And the Hemalurgic Rail guns. Oh, by the way, can we spike a planet with rods form god? (Google them)

"Yeah sure" Voidus replied distractedly. "Spikes in the top left drawer arranged by spiritweb resonance, disembodied souls in the top right, you know how it's organized. Try to minimize the creation of any Eldtritch horrors."

With a crash the tower he was building fell down.

"Ruin curse this jenga game! I've stolen the dexterity of 10 people and I still can't get it past this layer! Perhaps if I spiked out extra speed..."

Voidus bent over his desk and began rummaging through notes, Winter completely forgotten.

The Stranger nodded in approval as the girl grabbed several of their decoy products and scurried off. He turned to his colleague

"Excellent misdirection Voidus. That will give her something to do for a while. We seem to be going through a lot of decoys lately, haven't we?"

He looked at the ruins of the jenga tower.

"Have you tried the Zaraxian Helix structure? I find it works well for gaining height and stability in a proportional manner, but it tends to attract Gurgleschlurps, which always end messily. Or maybe add a Zinc spike to improve your form. Or Electrum if you're getting discouraged, I've had a new batch made recently."

Voidus turned back to Winter, charged spikes were one thing, not something lightly given away to those whose association with the Dark Alley was still somewhat up in the air, an uncharged spike however...

"Yeah, sure." He replied, pressing a nearby wall in a strangely long sequence and causing a segment of wall to slide open. "The sixteen Allomantic metals, sorry but Atium spikes need to be carefully rationed. Happy sciencing!"

Helping someone get started on the path to true science was always satisfying, allowing some unknowns access to the spikes Winter produced was a small price to pay for another potential lurker of the Dark Alley.

A dragon landed in front of what he believed was the entrance to the DA. He looked around nervously, seeming unsure about what he was about to do. He cleared his throat, singing some weeds in the process. "I've got a question for the Dark Alley."

Posted

"I was wondering if you had a spike, or any tech, that would allow me to turn into a human. Do you know how frustrating it is to not have opposable thumbs?"

Posted

It might be simpler to just graft some thumbs on you. As for transforming into things, there tends to be a a lot of side effects, as well as it leaves you more open to manipulation. Although we have been working on some ways to stabilize the process.

Posted

The dragon looked at his hands, "um, I'll keep them the way they are. I was thinking about something along the lines of what Winter does when she allows people to transforms into wolves.'

Posted (edited)

The dragon thought about it for a second. "So we need someone who really needs to die right?

Why did Sades die already?"

EDIT:sorry about the spoilers.

Um, dude, spoilers. I've read the book, but there are several people who haven't.

Hol' up a sec. Didn't she publicly side against us? Try and discredit us to potential customers on the intro thread? Not send a thank you note after our party?

I'm skeptical of her loyalties...

Yes.

You should be.

And yes. The nerve of some people wolves.

Fatebreaker, I demand that you change your avatar back to the beauty that it once was.

Which one? I've worn many faces.

Ah, the one with the scarecrow swinging the lantern. I LOVED that one.

Voidus, if it's not too presumptuous, may I have the title of "Head of Inter-Guild Commerce"? I see that as a different category than the more general "Sales," which seems to apply more to individual sales. I have recently noticed a lack of DA personnel among the rash of new guilds, and thought that I might fill the void by presenting a spiked friendly face and cheerful sales assistance to the fledgling operations. Your thoughts?
