Question

Posted

Im trying desperately to find something along the lines of an alethi dictionary, but there are only a few words here and there.

Im trying to make glyphs is what im trying to do.

My understanding is that glyphs are the phonetic spellings of words drawn into the glyph in a pleasing an symmetrical way. I got that. No problems with the drawings.

I cant find the words i need

Would I just use Aramaic and translate it phoneticly into the script?

There is a big list of words and glyphs. I also recommend avoiding the Fandom wiki, it is very scarce in information and citation. (Like, "the alethi script" what does that even mean? Which one? There are two primary scripts, one of which (Glyphs) is divided into two main groupings, Normal and Stormwarden, and both are also broken down into 3 different sets of phonemes. It is way more complex than one unified "Alethi script")

this has a lot of words. But not all. Notably, it lacks Mashala (aunt) and Mathana (older sister).

This page has information on numbers and date names.

It is not a fully fledged Conlang, it just has a basic grammar and a collection of words that are used when needed. He doesn't trust himself enough to make a fully fledged one and it be good. So you aren't going to find a massive dictionary of hundreds of words. We just have what we have.

You may be interested to read the Stormlight Translation thread (it's long, but detailed and interesting) which is where the Sharders collaberated when deciphering the various scripts in Stormlight Archive. I believe the discussion of Glyphs starts somewhere around page 8.
