Aww thank you so much for reading it. Your comment made me smile alot. thank you. Honestly im amazed it turned out as well as it did. I had to teach myself so many things to make it work. All thats left is to wrap it up and give it to it's intended owner. But hey! If you want to play, please do download the card pdfs and tell me how it went! -

They came. Its done. Im finished. ITS DONE AND IM FINISHED. ITS IN MY HANDS AND ITS DONE The brightlord tokens are the only thing that havn't come and im expecting them in next week. And the rules could stand to be polished, but I need playtesters. BUT THE PHYSICAL OBJECT IS FINISHED. I started this in august, and to you, my 3 followers.... You have been here with me. We did it. I want to cry. This project stretched my skills and demanded I learn new ones. Hundreds of hours of work went into this, from concept and design to material testing, to building. December 18th. Thats his birthday. I finished it in time. Alright. Heres the pictures.. So first off, like the email said above, they sent me all the misprints. Theres gotta be a few hundred cards here. Its insane. Heres a closeup. It is indeed 100% real wood, in domestic cherry and maple. The ink doesn't run in water. They are stormproof. And there they are. Two full decks. The fit inside the box is tight. The cards are slightly bigger than I had planned but they do fit, and with ebough space for storm and brightlord tokens. And thats it. Maybe ill give a light sanding to the edges, but its complete friends. Ill update you all when the tokens come. Maybe if I post this to reddit someone will playtest it for me so I can polish the rules. -

Pure opulance. Gloriously excessive. Its SO soft guys. I wish you could it. I went for a low pile velvet and it feels like something between a baby and a peach. A baby peach maybe. Heres the process I used: I cut card stock into slightly smaller dimensions than the inside of the box. I did each side and the bottom separately. I then pinned the cardstock to the velvet and cut it with a 1/4 inch allowance, then mitered the corners. Then i took the cardstock and coated it with spray adhesive , then quickly laid it on the underside of my velvet piece, folding the flaps in and pressing to secure it. Once I had all 4 edges and the bottom done, I coated the inside of the box in woodglue, and one at a time adhered the edges, keeping it pressed until it dried. Ive never worked with velvet before, and its alot less fussy than I was worried it would be. Im glad I sprung for a proper velvet instead of a velour. I blew my budget for this project two months ago anyway. And this officially finishes the box portion. Im waiting on the cards to come in and im sending some inquiries regarding getting some tokens made. Unrelated I fell off a second story window and got a concussion this week. So thats neat. Also.... This right here is the best part of any project. Seeing a concept go from sketch to a finished object in your hands is just *chefs kiss* -

Big post today. You kids ready? First of all heres the most current proofs. Maple Cards PROOF.pdf They look awesome. Theres going to be a set in cherry and a set in maple instead of having the printing be colored due to some issues with the bleed alignment. Next. The box. Its almost done and it kicks ass. Looks great sealed and varnished right? Then here's the money shot: Yessssss The map turned out SO GOOD. Its not perfect, but i did my best. The only thing left to be done for the box is to line the bottom with something. And the cards are now in production. This pipe dream is actually coming together. -

Im. Dumb. So the way ive been doing this is I work from the back with the finished side face down so that marks and scratches from working on it are on the back of the finished piece. Ive only made symmetrical things so far so it didnt click that i needed to work backwards. Better get off to remaking it TuT -

Behold! A very questionably accurate map of roshar! My knife slipped and sliced me up good while i was working on iri. Im not the first to shed blood over the borders in roshar, but i might be the first IRL idiot to do so. The colors of Rishir and valhav are too similar and muddle the borders a bit but its too late now. Its drying in the press right now. This weekend ill get to wood burning the details. Im coming for you, reshi isles -

Moving on to the inside lid. Im actually bringing this pipe dream into reality. Each country is going to be a different kind of wood with the maple as a background. ( This isnt as impressive as it sounds. I bought a variety pack of vaneer. Ive got like, 20 different woods.) Maybe ill make a small border. Who knows. Talking with the printers. Trying something different. Ill post the resulting proofs. -

Hoooooly rust. There it is. Its still got to press a while longer, then sand then seal. But holy rust. I actually did it and it looks incredible. Teaching myself marquetry and making an inlaid design on the lid seemed like a long shot. But I did it. And there it is. -

Theres been some minor technical difficulties with the printing and I had to modify the card files. Its been a crazy back and forth between me and the print shop because of how complicated the order is. Meanwhile Ive got the box sanded down to 7000 grit sandpaper so its super smoooooth and ready to stain. I gotta get some new stain. I have some walnut tone hanging around from a refinishing project I think I want something closer to cherry so the hardware stands out more. I've theoretically learned how to line the box inside. I want it to have a nice plush velvet interior to protect the cards. I got a few unfinished boxes from the dollar store to practice marquetry on, so ill test out lining them. Maybe I can use them to hold dice or something. Learning marquetry is proceeding. Im almost comfortable enough with it to give the box a go. Ive figured out how to apply an inlaid image to the inside lid of a box, so thats neat. Ill need to find a map of roshar. Heres a quick summary of the progress of the entire project The cards: Design cards✓ Write rules ✓ Send to printer✓ Recieve cards Varnish cards The box: Acquire box ✓ Chose hardware✓ Sand ✓ Stain Inlay Line inside of box Install hardware Of course this list doesn't include the miriad of steps ive gone through in between like testing materials, playtesting alone on my living room floor and learning entire new skill sets, but you, fair reader have already accompanied me in that journey. Ill report when I have something interesting to show. -

MORE HARDWARE I was really hoping the big round hinges would work but they are way too big. So lets see. First we have this neat square one that actually pairs perfectly with the hinges from the first set. Go figure. Next we have these two, which are two of the same jist in larger sizes. The big one was WAY to big. I kinda like how absolutely aggressive these things are. And heres a closeup pf the hinges that broke my heart. I REALLY wanted these to work, but alas. Too big. Since the other corner buts were too big, i got three more kinds that work in slightly different ways. These two work really well But the third was still too big I got these side brackets which are neat. Potentially i could pair ghem with the flat top thingy I really like the idea of putting the flat ones on the inside like this and making an image insode the lid anyway. Thats my hardware haul. Ive got too many choices now. Ps I sent the files to the printers, so we will see what comes of that. -

Alright. Hardware. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I ordered....a bunch. The first wave has come. I like the hinges. I especially like the latch. It comes with these corner guys which I particularly like.. BUT they extend past the lid.. Ill post back in when the next hardware arrives. -

Talks about the wood card printing are in the works and im preparing the files to be sent off. Weight , wood type etc have been chosen. Its time to set my sights on the box to store them in. I've got the box itself. It is jist large enough to hold the wood card and the cardboard deck with extra space for tokens. As for layout heres a few sketches. The lid is going to jist be the stormlight archive symbol. Im considering putting a map of roshar on the inside lid. And how will I do this? I taught myself to do inlay with wood veneer. Amazing. With some additional practice I think I should be able to handle the stormlight symbol. Then there is hardware. Ive been agonizing over what hardware to use. Ill make another post about it when ive made a decision. -

*sigh* Alright. So i had a more playable card version printed from https://www.boardgamesmaker.com/ Which arrived yesterday. Its beautiful and lovely and exactly what I wanted it to be. A total of 72 cards, 35 green 35 blue plus a turn card and a phase card. They are printed on a wood background I made, and each card type has a slightly different grain. Each deck consists of 1 king 2 shardbearers 8 spearmen 4calvary 4 archers 4 squires 4 soulcasters 4 knights And 4 garrisons The turn card and phase card are recent additions. Just keep them to the side to keep track of whos turn it is and what phase you are in. The phase card has a march side and a fight side. The turn card is jist the backing in the two colors on both sides. You can see the phase card above set to march. Here is the flip side. Additionally, I had them print custom tokens to keep track of your brightlord. Heres the details. This is an excellent set and very well printed and by all means I should be really happy about it, but ultimately this is a gift and the recipient wasnt too into it, so Im...pretty bummed. Im in too deep now though, so I guess I have to continue and see it through to the final vision. Im waiting on specific quotes from the company that does printing on veneer. Its cherry in a .025 mm thickness. Box is bought. Shellac is bought. So yeah. Ill keep posting updates. Maybe l can get myself worked up again about it. -

"oh cool" . = . Oh friends. The excitement of seeing something you made in the physical world, and the sting of "oh cool" as the reaction. Ill be back with the professionally printed cardboard deck soon. Gotta let the excitement build back up from ...oh cool. Just gotta... get a beverage. "Oh cool" ... "Oh cool" ... "Oh cool " I dont even feel like finishing the project anymore. Im so close but. .. Oh cool.
