Aeshdan he/him Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 So, I was thinking it might be a good idea to change the program so that when you upvote someone (but not when you downvote them) they would be informed that you had done so.
Emeralis00 she/her Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 One of the things I asked for before was a way to find where people have upvoted you. This would be nice since then you know what you are being upvoted for.
Chaos he/him Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Emeralis, we do have that now: This is a good idea; I will keep this in mind looking for modifications.
Joe ST he/him Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I would think that being notified of each upvote would get a bit intrusive...It's pretty much as good as you'll get as it is now.
KChan she/her Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 That, and there's the fact that it's really easy to see if you've been upvoted every time you look at one of your posts. I wouldn't mind this feature, but I'd like the option to turn it off.
Eerongal he/him Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 i wouldnt mind know WHO upvoted me (but i agree that downvotes should be hidden, lest downvoting incur bad blood between some people), but I wouldn't want to be NOTIFIED of every upvote
KChan she/her Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I'm not entirely sure if it's possible to have one type be anonymous and the other show who voted since Eric is the one who tweaked the code, not me. As it is right now, we agreed to have the whole thing anonymous to hide the identity of downvoters.

As it is right now, we agreed to have the whole thing anonymous to hide the identity of downvoters. well, without looking at the code, its all ready parsing through all the information, including if its an up or down vote, so the variable is likely there and loaded, so it should be as simple as adding an: if vote != downvote then displayname() end if (that's pseudo code, of course). However, this is all conjecture in the first place, and without looking at the code i cant guarantee this All im trying to say is that it doesnt sound terribly hard just from knowing how it currently works. That said, if it is a much more difficult task, then I wouldn't worry about it. Its one of those features that would be nice, but not mandatory, especially since many of the times people specifically call out when they upvote you anyways (something like "awesome! upvotes for you!" or something like that)
KChan she/her Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Yeah, I'm just saying I'm not the one to ask about it is all. I can do some code, but this is one situation where I wouldn't be able to code myself out of a wet paper bag. XD We'll see what Eric thinks.
