StupidChull Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 Dear Readers, I, the Stupid Chull, have noticed something in the naming scheme of the Stormlight Archive's books. It started with Way of Kings, then continued with Words of Radiance followed by Oathbringer and Rhythm of War. There seems to be a pattern. WoK WoR O RoW. Do any of you, my dear readers, know if the next book is going to follow a KoW naming setup? Do you believe I am seeing a pattern where there isn't? Am I merely dredging up a thought already long noticed by this community? Please leave your thoughts below for this Chull to peruse. With all my love for the audience -A Particularly Stupid Chull

With all my love for the audience -A Particularly Stupid Chull Yes, there is a pattern, good catch, and yes SA 5 book name will follow it. Partially at least. The name of the 5th book is "Knights of Wind and Truth", in short KoWT (or KoW to fit the pattern). Keep in mind, WoK's full name is "The Way of Kings", so technically KoWT fits TWoK but nobody calls WoK TWoK. Lastly, in one of the big reddit updates about SA 5, Brandon said that he often refers to this book as "Wind and Truth", so we'll see what the final name will be. From State of Sanderson 2022: Quote Brandon Sanderson Part Three: Updates on Primary Projects Stormlight Archive To kick this off, let’s give a big announcement. I’ve settled on a title, and I think it will be final. (No absolute promises, as these things can change during development.) So, for now, Stormlight Five is named Knights of Wind and Truth. Some of you who have been following along might notice this doesn’t QUITE fit the format we wanted to make all five books have some symmetry to their titles. (It has an extraneous “and” in it.) But I feel this is close enough to nod to that kind of inside easter egg, while also functioning as a title the way I want. State of the Sanderson 2022 (Dec. 22, 2022) Edit: Here is the SA 5 update: Quote Brandon Sanderson Hello, Reddit! Back with another update on your book! [...] First off, if you missed it in the State of the Sanderson, the working title of this book right now is some variation on Knights of Wind and Truth. I’ve been shortening that a lot to Wind and Truth in my mind as I write, so it’s possible I might just go with that as the cover title. If I do, the rest of you can know that in our hearts, the REAL title is Knights of Wind, Truth. That way, you can have your symmetrical title. olivemyheart Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 It's cool that you noticed that! If I remember correctly, Sanderson has stated that he didn't set out to make the titles symmetrical when he first started writing the series, but after RoW released and fans noticed the pattern, he felt inclined to come up with a name for the fifth book that fit the KoWT acronym.

Nah, Brandon's said that's always been on his mind: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/414/#e13904 Quote Questioner So far, the Stormlight Archive's book titles have the abbreviations: WoK, WoR, O, and RoW. Will Book Five's abbreviation be KoW, making the complete ketek? Brandon Sanderson Great question. Way back when I started working on the Stormlight Archive, I wanted to do this. And then I just didn't think it would work out, for various reasons, and I backed away from it, coming up with my kind of working titles that were not a ketek. After I changed Book Two to Words of Radiance, I realized I might have a chance to do this, and it started to kind of get in my head, that maybe I do it, maybe I wouldn't. I waited to see if Book Three would work as a single-word title, which it did. And so I am intending to do this. The question we have internally is where we put the "T." Because Way of Kings actually has a "the" in it, where Words of Radiance and Oathbringer do not, and neither does Rhythm of War. So, is it going to have a T at the end, or not? That is subject to debate, even internally, right now. Edited June 15, 2023 by ftl 1

Thanks for the information!
