I love this song. More and more I love this video; yeah I have a few technical hiccups, like Celestias Rainbow-Mane looking off... but the feels, man. I lose it during the sequance with Luna on the moon and Celestia tucking her in.

It was the fight scene for me.

That's... interesting. I actually had an idea for a story recently, where Vinyl is mute, Octavia is death, and they use the Equestrian equivalent of ASL. 

 

I dunno how much I'll follow mute!Vinyl as canon, simply because I kind of think of her as pony Kamina... but it's interesting.

Sorry, I should have clarified. Part of my head canon is that, because Ponyville isnn't usually a hub of classical music, Octavia had to get a second job reaping souls on the side to pay her bills. It's most certainly not a typo. Nope.

Y'know, it just occurs to me that I haven't actually shared some of my favorite headcanon's here. Which is wierd, since I have a huge ego, so telling you guys what I think about things should have been the first thing I did.

 

Oh well. Here are two head canon's I came up with fairly recently which I'm actually rather proud of, and which are -somewhat- connected, with some (very mild) spoilers from the season five premiere, for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

 

Shadowbolts Headcanon

So... the Shadowbolts appear in the second part of the pilot as a temptation for Rainbow Dash, before vanishing in a burst of purple smoke. They were another example of Nightmare Moons Magic (like her altering the trees and making the cliff collapse), so there might not be much more to them.

I prefer my idea.

 

We know that Luna can dream walk. I have a personal theory that says that Nightmare Moon had the same ability, and spent a thousand years invading ponies dreams, causing the nightmares that resulted in her reputation as the bogeymare... but that's not really relevant right now.

The relevant part is that, one way or another, Nightmare Luna probably had access to ponies minds.

 

In Testing, testing 1, 2, 3 we learn the early history of the Wonderbolts; that on the anniversary of Luna's banishment, an elite group of aerial performers put on a show which filled the ponies watching them with wonder- leading to the group being titled "the Wonderbolts". That's the kind of thing which would leave quite an impression on the minds of any pony in the audience.

 

Enough of an impression that, for some time following the show, the Wonderbolts would probably be on every ponies mind. If pegasi want to join their ranks in modern Equestria, it's difficult to imagine how much they would have wanted to join after the display that they put on for Princess Celestia. The ponies were probably impressed enough that at least a few of them would have dreams about the event.

 

Which bring us back to Nightmare Moon. Luna's motivation in becoming Nightmare Moon was jealousy; jealousy of her sister, and anger that her night wasn't as appreciated as the day. Then, on the anniversary of her banishment (in all likelihood, possibly a time she thought she might have been allowed to return), her only line of communication with her subjects thoughts are full of displays of pegasi celebrating the fact that Luna was banished.

 

It can get lonely on the moon, living in isolation for years. The idea that everypony is glad she was gone was just rubbing salt into the wounds. 

 

I believe that Luna created the Shadowbolts in response to the Wonderbolts. The Wonderbolts are the greatest flying team in Equestria? Well, the Shadowbolts are even better, (and call themselves the best when speaking to Rainbow). Luna probably had the Shadowbolts perform shows in her honor, just as the Wonderbolts did for Celestia. And since she spent so long with them, it's not surprising that she gave them their own names ("Nightingale", "Descent"), and probably some kind of personality. Luna was stranded on the moon for a thousand years; outside of dreams of ponies, the Shadowbolts were the only things she had to speak to.

 

So, my headcanon: The Shadowbolts are the Imaginary Friends of Princess Luna. 

 

Night Glider Headcanon

During Testing Testing 1, 2, 3, we got the names of a few famous Wonderbolt commanders, such as General Firefly and Admiral Fairy Flight. Among the names thrown at Rainbow Dash (and the audience) was a commander Easyglider, a pony who was responsible for creating a lot of the choreography used by the Wonderbolts, both then and now.

 

That is the extent of what we know about Easyglider, other than the fact that the costume worn by commanders at that time was awesome. We don't know when Easyglider's reign as commander took place; we don't know what happened to them; strictly speaking, we don't know Easyglider's gender (though I'd imagine it's safe to assume Easyglider was female, considering Twilight stood in for her during Rarity's boutique).

 

Fast forward to the season five premiere. Twilight Sparkle and friends investigate a strange town, filed with ponies who have given up their cutie marks and replaced them with equal signs. At the end of the episode, the mane six need help retrieving their own cutie marks from Starlight Glimmer, and are aided by a group of ponies- the "Elite Four".

 

One of these ponies is a pegasus who goes unnamed throughout the episode, but who the credits identify as 'Night Glider'. 

 

As with Easyglider, we don't know very much about Night Glider. We don't know where she comes from, or how she came to be in Our Town; as a result, there seems to be a lot of gaps that can be filled in with fanon.

 

So, my theory: Night Glider is related to Easyglider. During the chase with Starlight Glimmer, we didn't get to see much by the way of choreography or flying skills, but then, that was a chase, not a stunt show. Even so, we do see her and Double Diamond performing a dive bomb stunt involving her dropping him so he can cause an avalanche, which would seem to require quick thinking and coordination on both their parts.

 

 Furthermore, Night Glider's cutie mark depicts a moon with two feathers; feathers seems to be a standard symbol for speed and flight, suggesting that Night Glider's special talent is related to... well, night flying. 

 

Now, how does being related to Easyglider lead to Night Glider joining Our Town? I don't know. It could be that her talent wasn't good enough for the Wonderbolts; maybe she felt intimidated by having a legacy to live up to. It's more space for fanon to fill in, and I admit, I haven't quite figured out the details of their relationship.

 

Still, I like the idea that Night Glider is related to Easyglider so... head canon.

 

As an added bonus: my last theory related to the Shadowbolts, and my belief that Nightingale, Descent and Other Descent are Luna's imaginary friends, invented by her during her time in exile on the moon as a rival team to the Wonderbolts. If Luna ever decided that she wanted to form a real team of Shadowbolts, who better to lead them than the descendant of one of the Wonderbotls most famous commanders?

 

Which is something that might tie in quite well, both with Night Gliders name and her cutie mark. They might not be definitive proof, but it's certainly an indication as to why, if she can't, or doesn't, want to join the Wonderbolts, Night Glider might be able to find a role as  a captain for the Shadowbolts...

I finally got around to watching the first Equestria girls. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I definitely understand why peole dislike Sunset`s redemption. It was a bit quick. However, I don't get why people hate Flash Sentry so much.

First, I really recommend watching Rainbow Rocks. Its much better than EqG, and does a great job developing Sunset.

As for Flash... The joke is that he's a waifu stealer. In reality I think the problem is because of his role in the story.

MLP always did a good job of not falling into clichés about romance, most obviously in the Hearts and Hooves episode. Flash, however, is very clearly the "Love Interest" for Twilight...and the problem is he doesn't have a role beyond that. His only purpose in the story is as a ship tease, which is frustrating since the show never went there before.

Now, there's nothing wrong with romance, of course...but being the "designated love interest" is as much a problem for guys as it is for women in mainstream cinema.

And unfortunately, Flash doesn't really show much of a personality to make up for that role. He's a decent dude, kind of clumsy, owns a cool car and jacket and... is nice?

Its not a very interesting character, and MLP is a show founded on colourful characters.

Honestly, the worst part is that he had potential. They drop the idea that he was Sunsets ex-, but never really does anything with it. He's a decent guy...but he's not very interesting.

(Yet. Future films could flesh him out, and the fanon could add stuff...but he doesn't really stand out in Equestrian (he hasn't even gotten a line in the show), whereas the human version is hamstringed by the giant "Designated Love Interest" stamp on his forehead).

Yeah, watching Rainbow rocks is one of the three reasons I watched Equestira girls.

1. So I can watch Rainbow Rocks.

Well...she didn't. But there is a new Best Pony. And I cannot believe I'm saying this... but its Bon Bon.

So Bon Bon is a secret agent who hunts monsters for an organisation.

Bon Bon worked for the Equestrian branch of the SCP Foundation.

Besides her though...whickering stallions that was a fun episode!

In the fic I'm working on, part of it deals with the Equestria girls versions of the various villains. I already know where Discord and Chrysalis are. But I can't figure out where Sombra, Tirek, and Starlight are, or what they're doing. What do you think they would be doing in the human world?

(Chrysalis and the changelings are aliens. They were behind the Roswell UFO crash, and are currently imprisoned in Area 51)
