I have to agree that this past week's episode was one of my favorites of the season so far.  Rainbow Dash...the feelings were so real.  *sniffle *

Posted (edited)

Yeah- seeing Rainbow Dash actually break down into tears like that was...

Feels. Feels were had.

...So, on a somewhat unrelated note, does anyone here play the MLP card game?

(Well, the CCG one. There is another game available online, which I hear is good btu I've never played it.)

Anyway, some photo is making it's way around sites, allegedly from an upcoming set. I figured I might as well post it since...

Nightmare Star. Not exactly what I picture when I think of evil!Celestia, but still pretty cool. I love how she looked the elemtns of Harmony- the superweapon in the MLP universe- and decided "these things would look great embedded in the base of my throne so everypony knows how awesome I am."

Solar Empire is the best Empire.

There's a card game?!  :o

Why doesn't nopony ever tell me these things.

EDIT: Oh hey, I'm using words like Nopony instead of Nobody without even realizing it now.

YES!! YES!!!!  We play!! :D :D :D

After looking at that supposed card, though, my husband says it looks fake.  They only use things that have actually appeared in the Ponyverse.  Sorry. :(

The Only Joe, it's a great game!  The first player to earn enough points (15) from successfully facing problems wins the game. :D  They're just about to release the Discord packs in the next week or so, so you're hearing about this just in time for...chaos! ;D

(Edit to fix a typo.)

Edit to add: Watch, though, that will be a legit card when we get our packs next week...

Yeah; spoilers!

So, I've read a lot of debate on whether the card is real or not. Someone pointed out that there's a number at the bottom, marking what part of the set it is, and it's labelled as "-1"... but that might be part of the set-up for the new Discord pack? There's also a rumor that there will be an episode this season involving the CMC saving Luna from one of her nightmares, to cap off the CMC Dream Trilogy... so I've seen speculation that Celestia going Nightmare could be part of Luna's dreams.

There's also another card game, created by the fans and available online for whatever that's worth, though it's more of a parody about fim fictions, particularly romance ones, so...

Anyway, on a different note... I got the Fiendship is Magic comics! Like...

Literally, just got them. I've been unwell this week (usually go up on the last wednesday of the month to get all my comics at once), but I was able to pick everything up today.

...And in case you ddn't know:

Fiendship is Magic is a 5-part event IDW did this month. Each week they released a story about one of the major villains of the series, each by a different artist and writer. The five issues are Sombra, Tirek, the Sirens, Nightmare Moon and Chrysallis. Like I said, I haven't read them yet, but at a glance, they seem kind of fun; the covers are pretty awesome.

Still thinking about the latest episode, but one thing that didn't take much thought.

Braeburn, you are the worst. Farm work lasts pretty much 24 hours a day, seven days a week; your cousin agrees to take time out of that hectic schedule to compete in your place at a sports event.

(Meaning that even if she wins, all AJ has done is win a prize for a rival town).

All you have to do is keep an eye on some kids. I mean, you have a broken leg; its not like you have other plans. And instead, you let the kids get away and nearly get crushed by bales of hay.

Then AJ agrees to stay, puts the perimeter on lockdown, and all you have to do is pay attention - and you don't.

And yeah, they are the CMC. Keeping them out of trouble is a fools errand; still, you could put a bit more effort into it. From everyone jumping to blame Trouble Shoes, I'm sure when Braeburn explained the situation, he coughed and mumbled about it happening "When I was sleeping".

Seriously Braeburn. I am so disappointed in you.

Alright, so that really IS a new card! Which is both pretty awesome and kind of disturbing!

Of course, I'm actually kind of excited. I'm hoping this confirms the rumors I heard about Nightmare Star being Luna's Nightmare for the Dream Trilogy. I like Celestia, but the show... never really does anything with her, so this is a start. Kind of.

So, Griffonstone

It's nice to finally have some backstory and explanation for how Gilda acted in Season 1. She actually seems a lot like DIscord from last episode. Rainbow Dash was her first and only friend, so when she thought RD was hanging out with Pinkie too much, she became Jealous. She was just a bit more subtle about it.

Though I didn't like how all the griffons were characterized by "Got any Bits?" Sure they're desperate due to living in a ruined city, but there should be some variety among them. Instead they were all just greed driven hobos.

Putting thoughts together, so this might be...incoherent.

While the episode emphasises the griffons are greedy, I don't think that's necessarily correct. My impression is that griffon culture is a mercenary one, with emphasis on what they can get out of something. In modern, run down Griffonstone, that translates out to bits because, like Gilda, everyone is saving money so they can get out of there.

The reason I think they are mercenary is because Gilda explains "Griffons don't have friends"- and they probably don't, in the way ponies understand them. I imagine Griffon relationships follow the idea of " What can I get out of this", on a mutual level, but still being more...inherently selfish. The scene with Greta emphasises it; she refuses Gilda's help because helping for the sake if helping isn't a griffon thing; its a pony thing.

Which is my way of saying I think this episode added a lit of depth to Gilda. My impression is that griffons attending flight camp isbrare; we haven't seen any others. And Gilda's experience is unique, because she made a genuine friend in Rainbow Dash, rather than the more mercenary griffon version of one. So, I think Gilda is interesting because she's, effectively, an outsider amongst her people, because she experienced (and, occasionally, practices) pony cultures approach to things rather than griffons

As for her last appearance... Yeah, this episode makes her seem very much like Discord was. Again, I think it can be rationalised in mercenary terms -that Dash "belongs" to Gilda as a friend- but this is stuff I'm still sorting put for my head canon.

I haven't seen the trailer. And I'm trying not to. I actually want to go in with as little information as possible.

...that said.

Yeah, Octavia! From what I understand, they have a cellist named Tina Guo voicing her, so it seems like a fair bet that she'll have a song.

Sorry Lyra, but if you don't up your game, Octavia might replace you as my favoeire background pony.

Then my rivalry with that DJ fanboy Kobold King can begin.

Haha! I like it; just the amount of irreverence a brony needs to be able to treat himself with.

New command: upvote Wes!

Would, but the reputation is frozen. Oh, I'm joining the heard

Welcome! Have a complementary brony song.

As I said in the other topic...

Gotta admit, the art style threw me a little at first...for like, a second.

Immediately followed, of course, by grinning like a maniac at the animation, and trying not to cry at one of my favourite fan-songs.

Also, it gave me a new head canon, so that's always great.

If you're curious...we know Celestia and Luna raise the sun and the moon, so how do stars work in the Equuverse? It might not make sense, but I like the idea that Celestia created the stars after banishing Luna to give her some kind of comfort- especially after those scenes of Luna on the moon, and Celestia tucking her in, and...

Damnit, this video is awesome.

I love this song. More and more I love this video; yeah I have a few technical hiccups, like Celestias Rainbow-Mane looking off... but the feels, man. I lose it during the sequance with Luna on the moon and Celestia tucking her in.
