Hello World Cosmere,

I was encouraged to proclaim my existence to you - so here I am; I do exist! Alas, I am painfully clumsy when it comes to about me sections which is why I shall try to make it quick and painful! Having a background in natural science and music, I was introduced to the cosmere by a fellow student in an early semester when we were discussing magic systems (like one does in the early semesters of natural science majors). They said: read mistborn, the magic system is the best out there. Somehow, it took me several years and mutliple iterations of repeatedly taking up and putting down mistborn 1 to actually click with the ways of the cosmere, but once it did I devoured all of it in no time. Apart from Brandons ingenious writing (most notably the whole "not only accommodating but embracing human flaws" theme) it has always been his fanbase that fascinates me a lot. So I decided to finally sign up and become a part of you all. I cannot wait to discuss the cosmere with you all and learn about all the tiny details and obvious cross references I, so far, failed to catch on to!

all the best,

curon

PS: I really like commas, but sadly the affection is not mutual. My usual excuse that the insane use of commas in my native language kills my English comma intuition is, unfortunately, a lie. My comma game is just as spooky in my native language.

PPS: Turns out I did not really succeed to make it quick but maybe I managed to make up for it by making it all the more painful instead. ;)

Welcome to the Shard! :D I too am a  lover of commas, this, sadly, makes anyone who has to read any essays of mine thoroughly peeved with me and my very single time I write something the feedback is always along the lines of “write shorter sentences”.
How much of the Cosmere have you read?
Have you read any non-Cosmere books by Brandon Sanderson?
If you could visit one Cosmere world for 24 hours without risk of death, which would you choose?
Which of the Metallic Arts is your favourite?
What’s your favourite colour?

Thank you for your welcome! At least your aptitude in commas seems to match your enthusiasm for them - an enviable state if you ask, me! ;)
As far as I know, I read all of the Cosmere except for the graphic novels! Once Mistborn 1 got me interested, I finished Mistborn era one and then took up (and on) the Stormlight archive. Stormlight impressed me a LOT so once I was caught up there, I eagerly awaited the sequels. I "passed the time" reading through Mistborn era 2, the standalone novels and short stories from the arcanum. How about you? I assume you read all of it?

I have! I read the skyward series and novellas! I really enjoyed those as well, which was impressive for various reasons the most prominent being my general scepticism towards sci-fi (rooted in my job, I'm afraid). How about you? :)

Right now? I'm inexperienced with how the spoiler control works on this site so I put my entire answer to this in a spoiler box as it refers to SP1. ;)

Spoiler

LumarI DOUG the world building in that book! Big scale fluidizing spore oceans? Count me in!

Whic one would you choose? And why?

The Metallic Arts question is tough. I think I find Feruchemy the most intruiging so I shall go with that ;) again, what would be your answer to this?

This is again a really complicated question for me. I like all the colours and I pick different favourites for different purposes and at different times so... right now? Possibly a pinkish purpleish tone! Which is yours? :)

What's your favorite Sanderson magic system?

Thank you very much!

Tricky. I'd like to provide you with a threefold answer: My "popular" answer would be Allomancy. I like the way it is balanced and degree to which practice benefits the wielder. The skill ceiling is ludicrously high. My "hidden gem" kind of answer would be Forgery. I greatly appreciate the artsy aspect about it and, again, the fact that diligence adds value. Finally, since your question is a real tough one, I would like to pull the politician strategy for hard questions and answer another, vaguely related one instead: my MVP among Brandons magic systems is Investiture itself. The way it is underlying everything and somehow connects all its different incarnations and manifestions is beautiful. The amount of just-beyond-your-fingertips type of mystery about it is super intriguing!

How about you? How would you answer this?

I tried to remove a missing missing piece (space) and believe I succeeded.

What an excellently worded answer!

I've always liked Forgery, too. Alternate history is such an interesting concept and it's a delight to read. I also like Stormlight and the way it emphasizes personal growth. I think that's really cool.

That's a really good point! Stormlight makes manifest the concealed power inhering our shortcomings and I really love this, too!
