Also, does Valence have any obvious signs of Grafting?

If the guard is bringing Myrto to Atadin, then we could go through the chase scene and then wait for Emu to be back before he actually gets brought in.

He has not been Grafted, so no.

That's a pretty good idea, Archivist. It would allow me to stay caught up easier.

"Hmm, yes. And who are your people? Judging from the accent, not one of the Civilized Nations?" There was no way that this man, Valence, was from one of the Nations, but it was best to get a truth and a lie to have something to base future interactions on.

"No, I am not from what you call the 'Civilized Nations'." Valence said patiently. "My people were an island nation, many hundred miles from the mainland. Unfortunately, the island was a large volcano, and it exploded violently. I was one of the few survivors, and I only survived because I am Fleshbound. I was a mile off the shore, and my small skiff was destroyed in the following tidal wave. Over time, I made my way to the mainland. And now I am here."

Valence shifted his weight back slightly. He wondered how close this man was to Vithankre, and how well he knew the warlord.

"What openings do you have in the Guard?" he asked suddenly.

Valence hasn't lied yet, so not sure what the last part of Atadin's thought meant.

This interview is for him to join the Guard, and it would be for whatever part he wants really. Not sure if you want to change that.

It's a lie detector thing, he was hoping Valence would lie (which Atadin would realize because he's obviously not from the Nations), which would allow him to have a true baseline and a false baseline for any future interactions.

Edit for when you come back: This is the only post that is relevant to you, the rest are unrelated and we will catch up with them soon enough.

I forgot to post it, here it is:

Davian stumbled back, nearly bowled over by the running man. Why is he in such a hurry? Just as he thought, a man came out of a tavern shouting. Seeing the guards, he yelled, pointing at the fleeing man, "Hey, he just stabbed me. Go catch him!" Davian looked to his partner. Well, his partner who made sure he didn't mess up for the next month while he got started.

"What are you waiting for? Go catch him." The graying man leaned against the wall, a bemused smile dancing underneath his well trimmed beard. So, Davian started running.

Of course, those thoughts that always plagued his mind, racing without a care in the world. How did they even know this man was telling the truth? What if the other man was running for some unrelated reason, and this guy just thought it was funny to make the Guard chase after him.

So Davian yelled after the fleeing man, "Stop in the name of the Cou-!" He cut off. Who was it in the name of these days? There was no way Captain Jarmin would let that fly. "In the name of the City Guard." That worked, right?

The man with the bloody spear turned to look for only a moment before continuing to run.

When the sunlight glinted off of the red spear tip, the majority of Davian's mind quieted. Some stupid parts tried to come up theories, but he pushed them aside, sprinting to catch up. Suddenly, he wished for a Metalbound's enhanced legs. He constantly wished for the powers of the various Bound, but could never choose just one. But he was making ground, slowly but surely.

The man continued at a dead sprint, ducking around corners and heading away from the center of the city, towards the outskirts. Somehow, he never let down his dead sprint, although he was rather short and was still a bit slower than the guard.

She hid in the shade of the trees. Unmoving. Silent. People tended to look beyond those things.

Myrto sprinted into the area, still holding his bloody spear, breathing heavily, and with a manic grin on his face. Not seeing her before it was too late, he ran straight past her.

Imma retcon just a tiny bit of that...

Some... person was running down here. Running from what? There weren't many predators to speak of in the cities.

Sounds of shouting. Other people.

To think she'd forgotten the greatest predator of all.

Letting him pass would be the best option, but those guards were looking for someone - most likely this man with the bloodied spear. It wouldn't do to have them find her, so it wouldn't do to let him lead them here.

As the man passed, she grabbed his arm and yanked him into the foliage.

He yelped, then brandished his spear at her. "Who are you? What do you want?"

He snarled, struggling against her and hitting her in the face with his elbow. "What do you want?"

She shut him up the best way she knew how: grabbing a fistful of dirt and leaves, then shoving it in his mouth.

"You want those guards to find you? Die by your own people? Be quiet!"

He spat out the debris with disgust, then seized her by the throat and pinned her to the floor. His eyes flashed dangerously and he spoke with a quieter voice. "Who. Are. You?"

"I don't want to be seen. You don't want to be seen." She kicked him in the knee and spun over to get back on top. "So I am not your enemy."

"Then... who are you?" He had kept his grip on her neck, and he began to squeeze.

Well, I'm not sure if the guard can keep up while going at the speed of inactivity.

Also coming in with the realism note that it's nearly impossible to choke someone with one hand without a large strength difference. And if they have any intelligence, it is not much easier with two.

Davian turned around the corner, scrambling to not lose him, but he was gone. "Break it all!" What was he going to tell Darund? That he hadn't been able to catch some random gambler who was probably drunk? That wouldn't do, Davian stepped forward to investigate. He would have been able to see the man if he had gone straight, and there weren't any turns up ahead, so slowly but thoroughly he checked the bushes.

He hasn't found anyone yet if that isn't clear.

Cool, it can just be Myrto losing it a bit.

She seemed unperturbed, simply glaring at him. Frustration, more than anything. What a brutish creature.

Myrto dropped his hand, but held her gaze. "Answer me."

Considering most people would unthinkingly do it in a fight, it isn't a problem, just figured I'd mention it.

I'll give you guys a little bit longer to fight, but after my next post where Davian finds you, I'll probably head to bed.
