Yerik spotted a river below and started to descend. "Here's as good a spot as any, I suppose."

Miyako leaned out the window, hair blowing in the wind. "Looks good enough. Let's ditch the carriage and then hike deeper into the island."

Vance didn't say anything. "Take it off when you want."

Kealie ripped it off. “What was supposed to happen?”

Fiadh nodded slightly and then gripped the railing on the boat. "I think I'm gonna throw up."

Nayka looked around. “Um… I can go try to find some medicine if you want…”

He was smiling. "It's what did happen. Take a look around."

She did so. “Um. It looks like a forest.”

"So it does. But." Vance pointed at the tree she'd touched. "That used to be almost a foot farther that way, and the rock you touched was a few inches to the left before. It all shifted in real time as you were walking around."

Kealie blinked. “How? Ohhh. Ocumeritation.” She smiled. “Clever. Maybe I should fight blindfolded.”

"I actually think that might not be the worst idea," Vance said, moving forward to examine the shifted tree. "See, what this kind of power can do is force the area around you to shift directly in your favor. It doesn't have to be a massive change or anything particularly noticeable; after all, you only need to move a root a couple inches upwards to trip someone. What's more, this barely took up any of your energy because your changes were so subtle, so you could be constantly improving the terrain for yourself in combat."

The smile grew to a grin. “Of course, I’d have to believe the terrain was good for me and all that. Shouldn’t be too hard, though.”

"I believe Eej could help with that, actually."

“Eej?” She asked, tilting her head. “How?”

"Well, it'd take some time, but..." Vance glanced over at the pesky vine friend, "if you can establish a more efficient form of communication, then Eej could act as your eyes while you fight blindfolded: but feed you false information here and there in order to let your powers work."

“We have very efficient communication,” Kealie assured him. Eej affirmed this by weaving down her arm, then back up. “He’s faking being offended that you don’t have faith in him.”

"Then I suppose you ought to get started on figuring out if my idea works already. Seriously, that kind of power could really throw some of even the best warriors off their game."

She nodded. “Yeah.” Reaching up, she retired the blindfold. Okay, Eej. Off we go.

"Ditch the carriage?" responded Yerik, alarmed. "Why?"

"You don't think a golden floating carriage is a eye drawing?" Miyako said, as she pulled herself back into the carriage. "If the Queen's guard comes and hunts us then this carriage will be noticed. Also she might have tracking on it." Miyako shrugged.

Enner stalked through the city, a gloom surrounded him. Two, nearly three, Krast cursed hours. That was how long Enner had been laying hints and whispering subtle wheedling. And he had nothing. Nothing. More Savvour than he had ever imagined at his fingertips, and he couldn't get any useful information.

No-one seemed to care about Essence. How could they not be interesting in the most powerful magic there is? They were all fools.

That thought crossed his mind just as a Vexlin walked past. If anyone will know about Essence magic, it will be a Vexlin. Enner ran after them as they entered a building. His eyes barely darted up to see the words "Order of the Fallen Star" before ducking into the building.

"We should backtrack a bit, ditch it somewhere more random, then just hike here," Hyron said, nodding, agreeing with Miyako. "We're trying to stay hidden."

Yerik sighed wistfully. He'd enjoyed flying the carriage, but Miyako wasn't wrong.

"Alright," he said, parking the carriage and releasing the controls. "Lead the way."

The Vexlin - a part-Luaxlin, with pale blue eyes - was chatting with the person behind the front desk as Enner entered. "-heard about you. They say you have stones that can give anyone magic."

"Uh... well, in theory, yes!" The deskperson seemed rather excited - and a little bit shocked - that someone was asking. "Not everyone can bond one, but there's a good chance you'll be able to. Here, I'll go get one- we can do a preliminary aptitude test right here." He turned and pushed through a door to the back of the building, leaving the two Vexlin alone in the front.

From what I can tell there are currently four sub-plots active.

-My Nameless Island plot

-Wizard's Annimus plot

-Justice's stamp-collection plot

-Fadran's adventuring-school plot

Give anyone magic, what in Pelagia is this? He stepped forward, but paused, uncertain. How would he go about this. He had been subtle before, but that hadn't gotten him anywhere. "Uh, hello." Might as well get it over with. "Do you know where I could find an Essence shrine, or do you know someone who does?"
