Hi. I like the game of chess.

I bet there are other people on the shard who enjoy chess as well, so I was thinking it would be fun to talk about chess!

I know that competitively, chess has been very interesting recently, and it would be good to know everyone's thoughts on that matter.

Chess is fun.

I like chess.

I'm not good at it, but I like it.

(...That said, I somehow won a fair number of the last few games I've played. That was also at least a month ago.)

I… like chess

Except playing against my little brother, cuz he’s better than me and… I don’t like to admit that XD

This is me with too many games. Chess included.

But I digress. This is a chess thread, not a "my younger siblings can do things better than me" thread.

....Does anyone know of some interesting obscure chess rules or strategies?

Ah, that move. I was thinking more along the lines of scholar's chess for an advanced strategy.

Chess is really fun.

17th shard chess.com club? :eyes:

I mean, that would be a lot of fun. I don't know how we would go about that though.

I am on chess.com. What's everyone's 10 minute rapid rating?

800! Exactly! I haven‘t played anyone except computers.

And this is en passant.

In the last few games I've been using a more offensive strategy where I threaten my opponent's queen with my bishop, but have also positioned my knight in a way that they can't take that bishop without loosing their queen to the knight. I don't remember exactly how I do it, and it doesn't work all the time.

Does this have a name?

As a general strategy, that's just an attack while your piece is defended.

However, that strategy specifically totally has a name, but I don't know what it is. If you put in a move list, I bet I could find something.

I love chess! I was... really good at one point, then I stopped playing for a couple years. That's where I am now...

I never knew how en passant was spelled. Huh.

The thing that really confused me was how to spell Sicilian. Funnily enough, I can spell things like Nimzowitsch, but not that. It’s probably because I learned the Sicilian at a young age and couldn’t spell it then, and then just never realized how.
