IheartKaladin4eva she/her Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 (edited) Ok, so, I already finished WoK, but my friend @Shallan Stormblessed told me that doing reaction posts are kind of a thing, so.... *shruggy emoji* At first, when my friend @Shallan Stormblessed kept telling me about it, I was kinda just like, oh, sounds cool, but not really my vibe. I'm more into like, more mystery, fairytales, rom coms, that sort of thing. (If anyone ever needs any recs EVER I will gladly, gladly give some. It's like, what I live for.) Not really hard-core fantasy like what WoK sounded like. It's like, the whole shabang. Strange names, crazy magic powers, swords, fake curse words. Not at ALL like my usual type. So I was a little hesitant. But, my friend kept bombarding me with all these awesome quotes. (She also might have sent a few Kaladin fanart pics.....) One time, we were emailing back and forth for a while with a whole bunch of quotes and I got like, super hyped. I believe it started with her talking about the prologues and how long they were..... "So the prelude's about a guy who's been tortured for millennia deciding to stop being tortured... no matter the price. The prologue's about the Assassin in White. The first sentence of the prologue is "Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king." " Cue us talking more about Kaladin and how hot he is and what his personality is like... "Well, after the prologue, you get a view of him from someone else's perspective, then you get a later PoV of his own. In that one, he's being extremely mysterious, and kinda brooding. I responded with this: "ooooooooooohhhhhhh it has switching povs?????????? aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! I think I'm in lovveeee!!!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!! ooooh brooding toooooo. love thatttt. *smirkey emojis*" Ultimately, this was the quote that did me in. "Kaladin. Don't let this destroy you." "It can't. Amaram already took care of that." I found myself agreeing to read the online ebook sample. To be precise, I think I said, "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESSSSSSSSSSS. BEAUTIFUL GOLLY I HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK WHY DIDN'T I LISTEN TO YOU BEFORE???? YOU WHO IS SO WISE IN THE WAY OF BOOKS. I BOW BEFORE YOU, YOUR HUMBLE SERVANT." (Here's the link to the thread that my friend started when I finally agreed ) So. I started the sample. And immediately started struggling. You know how it starts. A whole bunch of weird names and strange references and no explanations whatsoever. I don't think that I actually finished the prelude. I stopped, then started it again a few days later when my friend started asking about it and I felt guilty. So, finished the prelude, then got like, halfway through Szeth assassinating the king dude. (Can't remember his name. Know it started with a G tho.) And then I think that I later finished the prologue and got halfway through the first chapter. And didn't look at it again for the whole summer. Cue school starting again. I saw my friend, and again felt guilty for not finishing the sample even though I promised to. So. More bugging, and numerous quotes later... I still had no intention of finishing the sample anytime soon. Friday, September 9th, 2022. One of the best days of my life. I had just finished another book. I had absolutely nothing to read. So. Spur of the moment, I decided, you know what? Imma read that one book that I've been putting off for months. Opened the sample. Finished the first chapter. And just kept going. By the end of Chapter 2, I was hooked. Kaladin was epic and mysterious, and I felt super bad for/was very intrigued by Szeth. Also: RIP Cenn. You didn't deserve that. (Oh my goodness tho!!! Bro I totally knew that Kaladin had powers, right from that very first thing, the part with spinning the spear, I think? Fantastic, totally knew it) Didn't really care bout those dudes at the very beginning tho, way too confusing... (Didn't really care a whole bunch about Shallan either, I just liked Kaladin so much more) And this was all before it even got interesting. By Saturday, I'd finished the sample, and downloaded WoK. One of the best decisions of my life. I got to school on Monday euphoric. Pretty sure that I kinda freaked out on my friend, but I was extremely excited. The beginning Spoiler Spoiler Alrighty then. Guess I'd better get to reading the actual book now... And lemme tell you, this was an experience. I was reading any chance that I got, so I'd be in the middle of LA and just. Gasping. Out loud. Probably annoyed my table group quite a bit BUT WHO CARED WHEN KALADIN WAS SO EPIC AND COOL AND AMAZING AND STRONG AND HOT AND JUST THE BEST CHARACTER EVER. EVER!!! I was always extremely annoyed when it switched to Shallan's POV. Possibly why I don't like her a ton ahahahaa!!! But I'm getting ahead of myself. The first bridge run. I was... unprepared. I don't think that anyone could really be ready for that, and I was only reading it. By the end of the chapter, I was just in shock. And then that epic quote: "He'd thought that there was nothing more life could do to him, nothing worse than the slave's brand with a shash, nothing worse than losing all he had to the war, nothing more terrible than failing those he'd sworn to protect. It appeared that he'd been wrong. There had been something more they could do to him. One final torment the world had reserved just for Kaladin. And it was called Bridge Four." AND THEN IT SWITCHED TO STUPID SHALLAN'S POINT OF VIEW!!! Bro, every time that anything interesting happens, it switches to her struggling with Jasnah. Sorry, but I really don't care. Ok, to be fair, she did get a little more interesting there at the end, but for the majority of the book I just kinda hated her because she took away from my time with Kaladin. So not fair. hee hee. She did meet Kabsal in that chapter though, and for the record, I shipped it from the very start. so sad about... the incident. literally trash I really liked him. I mean, it's probably not healthy to eat that much bread and jam, but still!!! he's so nice what a betryal. cancled. Bro I was always so upset when they did her perspective twice in a row. I would always turn the page, expecting to be greeted by the magnificence of depression and hotness that is Kaladin, only to find Shallan. So annoying. Ooooh also: I love Yalb. Like, so so much. he's so funny and smart and so cute!!!! Tbh, reading the beginning of WoR, I am shipping it hard. But that's not what we're talking about. No matter how begrudgingly I read Shallan's pov, I will admit that I was very happy for her when she finally became Jasnah's ward. Real proud. And then it was time for Kaladin's depression. You know it. "We exist to be killed. If we're not dead already." Bro my heart. My poor little baby. I don't know how to type sobbing noises. It just kinda turns out looking like ahahahahahaha waaaaaahhhhh which isn't quite right, but you get the picture. That poor little kid!!! These people are all way too young!!! Poor little kid. Poor bridgmen. Poor Kaladin. My baby. At the first of the flashbacks I was like who? Who is this Kal person? Then I got it and got super excited. Finally!!! I was hearing about his past!!! How did he get there? Who did he fail? Why does he always put the blame on himself? The answers were within my grasp. And I found out that the flashbacks take forever to get to the interesting parts. Or so I thought at the time. Looking back, I find it so fascinating. The two sides of Kaladin. The part that wants to protect, defend, fight. And the part that wants to help people, to heal. And the both sides. The sides that care. ahahahaha waaaaahhh. HONOR CHASM Spoiler Oh my goodness. And then I got to the honor chasm. OH MY GOODNESS THE HONOR CHASM!!!!! BRO I WAS!!!! LIKE!!! FROZEN!!! I couldn't move. I was just sitting there. Reading with my hand covering my mouth, head bowed over the book and just. read. Kaladin. He's gone through so much. He's been hurt so badly. My poor little sweetheart. "The land had been broken. And now it broke the people who came to it." "You were right, Father. You can't stop a storm by blowing harder. You can't save men by killing others." "He put one foot out over the void." I'm pretty sure that I was close to tears at this point. And then Syl showed up. And he was mean to her! I was kinda mad at him for that. Syl is just like a little child. So sweet. At the same time, I was wondering how her bringing him this random poison leaf could possibly help him not jump off of a cliff. And I knew that he wasn't, because he's like, a main character. Duh. "He thought of himself, crying at the death of a boy he hadn't even known. A boy he hadn't even tried to help." "One more try…." ahahahahahahahahaha wahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! Oh my goodness I feel it in my heart. Deep. Like, deep inside. I love. so much. just love. Looking back, I can just picture this scene. Oh my goodness!!!!!! this is insane!!! I can't even!!! Kaladin, standing in the pouring rain, Syl on his hand. Striding away from the chasm, rain sheeting down all around him. A trickle of water sliding down from his hair around the edge of his determined jaw. And then totally beating Gaz up. best moment of my life. OH MY GOODNESS!!! BEAUTIFUL I WAS JUST FREAKING OUT!!!! I WAS LIKE, YES!!! YES!!! YOU GO!!! FANTASTIC I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! My goodness tearing up just thinking about it. My baby, all grown up. (Except that he'll always be my baby, so.) "THE WORLD JUST CHANGED, GAZ. I DIED DOWN AT THAT CHASM. HOW YOU'VE GOT MY VENGEFUL SPIRIT TO DEAL WITH." aaahaahahahhhhh!!!! what a good line!!!! oh my goodness this book just has the best quotes I can't. dead. absolutely dead. eeeeee!!!!! bwahahahahahahahaha!!!! oh my goodness best thing ever!!!! Pumping my fist, shaking my head, running around my room, the whole shebang. fantastic. "For your efforts... Your efforts in staying the [heck] out of my way. Understood?" Beautiful. This is why we love him. Don't even try to deny that he's the best character ever because I won't stand for it. Fantastic. "Kaladin Stormblessed was dead, but Kaladin Bridgeman was of the same blood. A descendant with potential." Also: love him finding out their names. that's an awesome first step. awwww. Teft was the first person who he asked!!!!!! Awwww I hadn't noticed that before I love that so much. hmmm. So much of Kaladin is defined by his responsibility of others. Like, he couldn't get out of depression for himself. He had to do it for others. He wasn't going to go to war. Unless he was doing it for Tein. Interesting. "But as he settled down on the ground to plan, he felt that tiny warmth burning steadily within him. It was the warmth of decisions made and purpose seized. It was responsibility...But he wrapped himself in the responsibility he had taken, the responsibility for these men. He held to it like a climber clung to his last handhold as he dangled from a cliffside. He would find a way to protect them." Aaaahhh my sweet little baby, taking on all this responsibility. None of this is your fault sweetie I love you so much but you can't blame yourself too much. Theres no emoji to signify my pain properly. But here I go, getting off track again. We're not there yet. Shame Interlude Spoiler Bro then the interludes. Like, ok. They're interesting. You get some different characters, some perspective but. But. No Kaladin for like, way too many chapters. So I kinda hate them and have to force myself not to just skip all of them. (Shameful, I know, but it's taking some serious willpower. You should applaud me now.) But I do kinda love Ishikk, the guy in the water place. Not sure if I understand the significance yet... but he and Maib are so cute Bro. Shallans brother. I cant. kinda a creep, can't support him. Just, no. Bro that familys so messed up rip. Do feel bad for them but still. no. Brooooooo Szeth. When he got the new master or whatever I totally thought that they were going to be all like, assassinate all these important people, not really expecting what he got, but ya know. To each their own. Adolin Spoiler Hmmm. I believe that the chapter after the interlude is the first time that you meet Adolin and Renarin. Oh, how far we've come. At first when I met Adolin, I was just kinda like. Huh. He might be smart, but he might be really dumb. I was just kinda reserving judgment. Bro, and the first mention of Adolin's girls. I can't even. Knew he was a player first time that I saw him. But I actually wasn't really bothered by it, because he's not super arrogant about it. He's just kinda like, huh, rip wasn't my fault. "It wasn't his fault that his relationships often burned out quickly. Well, technically, this time it was his fault. But it wasn't usually. This was just an oddity." Sure honey, sure. Keep tellin yourself that. Oh my goodness. for like, 10 pages, I literally thought that Dalinar was hearing "untie them" and I was so confused when I finally figured it out everything made so much more sense it was honestly embarrassing. Anyway. I really shouldn't keep going chapter by chapter like, this.. it's gonna take forever... we're gonna skip ahead a little Side Carry Spoiler Bro the side carry. Knew something bad was gonna happen with that. Ominous from the very beginning. very sus. Still though. It did save like, bridge 4s life even if it like, killed everyone else....... Still!!! Brooooooo the highstorm scene!!!!!! I was freaking out!!!! like!!! bro!!!!!! insane!!!! I must say, I was kinda expecting it to be... less bad than it was. like, even though everyone was like, oh you can't go out into a highstorm, cause you'll die I was just kinda like, oh it won't be too bad for Kaladin, cause he's awesome!!!! So good tho. awwwwww I love syl protecting him so much. ahahwaaaahhh I could just picture it!!!!! him holding on to the side of this building, wind and rain everywhere, you can't see much, but a light! you can see it, shining brightly!!! Standing still, protecting...... a spark of fire in a world of cold and darkness. beautiful. "In those brief moments of light when he dared to look, he thought he saw Syl standing in front of him, her face to the wind, tiny hands forward. As if she were trying to hold back the storm and split the winds as a stone divided the waters of a swift stream." ahahahahawaaaahhhh!!!!!! so sweet I love their relationship so much!!! bro I love it when they switched perspectives to teft tho. qualityyyyyy. bro!!!!! "There he saw what he'd expected and what he'd feared. The corpse looked like a hunk of slaughterhouse meat, skinned and bled. Was that a person?" "Teft had seen enough dead men on the battlefield to know what he was looking at. Poor lad, he thought, shaking his head as the rest of Bridge Four gathered around him and Rock, quiet, horrified. You almost made me believe in you. Kaladin's eyes snapped open." Broooooo!!!!!!! I was screeching. My family was yelling at me to be quite because it was like, nighttime, but!!!!!! bro!!!!!! aahahhhhh!!!!!!!! oh my goodness this is one of the best books ever I can't. dead. just like Kaladin isn't. amazing. brooooo and the sphere!!!!!!! when teft gave it to him at the beginning of the storm I was like.......... broooooo. aahhhh!!!! "Something dropped to the stones. The sphere Teft had given him. It splashed into a puddle and stopped there. It was dun, no Stormlight in it." Broooooo and so it begins. hee hee hee. fantastic. bro I love teft so much tho. After that storm he's just like, hey u still got those spheres? hey, you been feeling like light lately? bwahahahaha the best love him so much probably getting all these events out of order. its fine, ya'll know what I mean. Hands-on philosophy Spoiler Need I say more? Honestly, I kinda don't really... have a strong opinion either way? Like, bro. You really shouldn't kill people. bad. probably should have just like, incapicated them for a little bit. Also, really shouldn't go down sketch dark alleys. Don't quite agree with Shallan tho. the whole, oh we were practically asking for it.... not really. Kabsal pt 1 Spoiler ohhhhh Kabsal. Kabsal, Kabsal, Kabsal. *Tisk* At first I was kinda like, oh, he's nice, young, likes jam. sounds like a good love interest. And then it just kinda got to be like. More bread? More jam? Try something a little more original please. And then I felt so bad for him!!! I actually emailed my friend about it Oh my goodness poor Kabsal What happened? Bro she's leaving and he's super sad and she's like, don't come with me and he loves her but she "doesn't feel the same" Oh how little did I know. Still can't quite make myself hate him tho... he's just like, a character that I'm kinda... disappointed in. ya'know? more on this later. Weird squiggle monsters Spoiler Spoiler Sketch. altogether sketch. very weird, I can't. First time it happened with the king, I was just kinda like, the kings gonna die. he's super old, and those little creatures are the ones who are going to carry him into the afterlife. Then I thought about it, and it didn't make much sense. But that was my first impression. Anyway. Broooo those things are creepy!!!! I started emailing my friend after the whole Kabsal thing, ya know, when she told him that she was leaving? Keep reading. This is an interesting chapter. Ooohh I can tell. She's drawing another weird creature thing Oh yeah. Where this book becomes horror. oh no Now, don't let me distract you. Oh my goodness this is kinda terrifying keep reading... evil grin Woah That was... intense Yeah. See, Shallan's not all boring. *Sigh* I guess I see what you mean heehee "And felt something." ooh-ooh that gave me a chill Bro. That whole scene. I can't. that was insane. I was like, bro the evil squiggles are gonna get her!!! another one of those scenes where I just couldn't move. also, the whole arm cutting thing. not sure if that was really stupid or really smart. just kinda... bro. ya'know? Also: There was a quote from Elhokar that I sent to my friend cause I was just kinda like broooo. "They watch me. Always. Waiting. I see their faces in mirrors. Symbols, twisted, inhuman..." Haven't learned if there's a significance to that yet but... still... Poison Spoiler Spoiler At the hospital. We love it. Bro love how she was just like, poisoned You... love it? it's so funny!!! Bro hate how she was just like, here's the soulcaster tho Ah yes. Poison, hilarious. I'm confused Ahahaha bro rip kabsal!! Did not see that coming I know!! He's so likeable and fun! It's so sad. HERE!! HAVE SOME JAM!!! I ABSOLUTLY INSIST THAT YOU EAT IT!!! NOW!!! *Crying face emoji* Love it so much. Bro the thing with Jasnah tho. so many plot twists in this part. amazing. bro and the fact that Shallan can do it too??? so cool. Randoms Spoiler Spoiler Some quotes that I randomly send to my friend "Were those still tears in his eyes? Would that they could hide his crimes." Bro I literally feel so bad for Szeth. But also kinda like bro. Cause like. Honestly I really don't care about honor. If there's nothing magical holding you in place literally just... don't. Don't kill a whole bunch of people just because some random guy told you to???? Who cares about honor? " 'What are you?' The man whispered, eyes watering with pain. 'Death,' Szeth said, then drove his Blade point-first through the man's face and into the rock below." "I'm standing over the body of a brother. I'm weeping. Is that his blood or mine? What have we done?" And now, the worse one of all. My friend sent it to me after I read the part. " 'In four years, I will bring him home safely.' Kaladin said. "I promise it by the storms and the Almighty's tenth name itself. I will bring him back.' I promise..." ... ... ... *Like, 200 crying face emojis* WHYYYYYY IM SO SAD NOW OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS HORRIBLE WHHHHHAAAAAHHHH!!!!!! WHYYYYYY. *Sniffle* I will bring him back. Literally horrible those flashbacks killed me. Speaking of.... Flashbacks Spoiler Spoiler Broooooo. Literally hate Roshone so much. WHAT A JERK!!!!!!!!!! I can't even. how canceled. poor tien!!!!! he's so sweet!!! and the rocks!!! and the weeping!!! oh my goodness. poor Kaladin. Poor tien. Poor both of their parents. Also. Amaram THE WORSE CHARACTER EVER OH MY GOODNESS I HATE HIM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! POOR KALADIN!!!!!!! Broo!!!! I cried from the beginning of Tiens death to when he got his slave brands. Literally can't. the worst. ahahahahahahahahahaa waaaaaaahhhhhhh Email to my friend after the event Awwwwwwww poor Kaladin!!! I feel so bad for him!!! Everyone he cares about is dead!!! Also: Rip Dunny. poor little kid. Also: "Kaladin's squad was all accounted for, their wounded protected at the center. All except the new boy. Tien. Cenn, Kaladin thought. His name is Cenn." My poor little traumatized buddy. poor sweet little Kaladin. my poor baby. you don't deserve this. Another random quote thing that I don't know where to put but it's awesome so I have to include it Spoiler "If he hadn't learned to divide his mind like that, war would have destroyed him. Perhaps it had done so anyway." I can't. Even. Bro so many good quotes. ok. I'm done now. Wit Spoiler Ahahahahahahaha!!!! Wit!!! honestly one of the best characters in this book series (my friend told be that he's in most of the books in the cosmere too, so.... looking forward to reading the other series. ) The story. Love. Bro the whole thing about taking responsibility. necessary, and I love that part. Because, hate to say it, but Kaladin honey you were kinda blaming all of these things on like, a curse when it really was kinda just... you? Sorry honey but it's kinda true. The thing with Tien, couldn't really have been prevented, but other things kinda like, were? In a way? Like, when he went back for the shardbearer. Probably shouldn't have done that. You're crew followed, and they died. horrible. but not really a bad luck thing. Wit kinda forced Kaladin into confronting his past, and realizing that, no, you're not cursed. that's just the way life is. and I really appreciate that a lot. Also: love the thing with the flute. I was just like, there's no way that he's gonna learn that. Bein like, learn how to play this flute. Tell stories. Kaladin bein like where am I gonna find time to play a stupid flute Spoiler And, low and behold, over halfway through WoR, and I learn that he abandoned it in Sadeas's camp. called it. Dalinar Spoiler Not much to say on this front, but I just gotta say, I was so excited for Kaladin to meet Dalinar. Like, loved Dalinar's character. I was so excited for when Kaladin finally meets a lighteyes that he can trust!!! Bro the whole thing with the wishes and his wife. I really can't wait until he tells us what that's all about. Sanderlanche. Oh dear. Spoiler Spoiler So my friend had told me to tell her when I reached a certain chapter and..... probably should just show the emails. (Didn't really say much on the Sadeas front. Probably should. I'll do it now. So I trusted Dalinar that he was to be trusted. I was like, ok. His visions are real, so that means that Sadeas can't be too bad. So I was going into this from a good point of view. oh, I didn't know how wrong I was.) (Oh also: The armor. So weird, but also very nice cause they get armor that's actually allowed, but also real sketch. I thought that something way worse was going to happen because of that.) (Ok, last one, I promise, but I really just had to include this. "They reached their bridge and formed up, shields strapped to rods on the sides to await use. As they hefted their bridge, a spontaneous round of cheering rose up from the other crews. 'That's new,' Teft said from Kaladin's left. 'Guess they finally realized what we are,' Kaladin said. 'And what's that?' Kaladin settled the bridge onto his shoulders. 'We're their champions.' ") Anyway. that's all. Oh, what chapter did u want me to tell you when I reached? I just started 64... Bro. Something bads going to happen. I can feel it oh no something bad is going to happen Now you're starting the Sanderlanche. It was 62. Now I read for like, awhile and just went crazy. Bro. They get there, and everything going great. I was a little sus when they were like, oh Dalinar had 1 of the bridge crews or whatever. Like, shouldn't they have more? But then. Then Sadeas's army started to pull back. And I started to get angry. HOW COULD HE DO THIS????? I TRUSTED HIM!!!!! He's LEAVING them BEHIND??? ALL OF THOSE MEN!!!! THEY HAVE FAMILIES!!!!!! HORRIBLE DESPICABLE HUMAN BEING!!!!!! IF HE COULD EVEN BE CALLED THAT!!!!! DISGUSTING CREATURE THAT DOESN'T DESERVE TO LIVE!!!!! TRASH!!!!! I HOPE YOU DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH!!!!! YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!!!!!!! BRO for a little bit I literally thought that Kaladin was going to leave them there!!!! I was like, bro he's not going to do it. He's going away. Dalinar's going to die. They're never going to meet!!!! This is horrible!!! how could this happen!!!! And then syl. good ole syl. Bro. Honorspren. So does that mean that she's drawn to honor? love it. "Kaladin could faintly hear the sounds of the battle. Or was that just his mind, searching for something he knew to be there? Could he hear the men dying? Could he see the soldiers running away, scattering, leaving their warlord alone? Everyone else fleeing. Kaladin kneeling over Dallet's body. A green-and-burgundy banner, flying alone on the field. 'I've been here before!' Kaladin bellowed, turning back toward that blue banner... 'What happened last time?' Kaladin yelled. 'I've learned! I won't be a fool again!' It seemed to crush him. Saedas's betrayal, his exhaustion, the deaths of so many. He was there again for a moment, kneeling in Amaram's mobile headquarters, watching the last of his friends being slaughtered, too weak and hurt to save them... And his father's voice seemed to whisper a reply. Somebody has to start, son. Somebody has to step forward and do what is right, because it is right. If nobody starts, then others cannot follow... The lighteyes don't care about life, Lirin had said. So I must. So we must. So you must... Life before death. I've failed so often. I've been knocked to the ground and trod upon. Strength before weakness. This would be death I'd lead my friends to... Journey before destination.... death, and what is right. 'We have to go back,' Kaladin said softly. 'Storm it, we have to go back.' " And so it began. Bro. So cool. And the revelations he has while running the bridge up.... broooo "This is my choice, he thought as the Parshendi archers formed up. It's not some angry god watching me, not some spren playing tricks, not some twist of fate. It's me. I chose to follow Tien. I chose to charge the Shardbearer and save Amaram. I chose to escape the slave pits. And now, I choose to try to rescue these men, though I know I will probably fail." this is why we love him. aaaahahhhh!!!!! oh my goodness I was freaking out!!!!!! brooooooo the part with the shield tho!!!!!! that was literally so cool!!!! "His shield was covered in arrows, dozens of them, some splitting the others. The bones crossing the shield's front had shattered; the wood was in splinters. Some of the arrows had gone through and hit his forarm. That was the pain. Over a hundred arrows. An entire volley. Pulled into a single shield." So cool I can't even. Bro I love Kaladin's powers so much. WoR- Spoiler (I'm like, most of the way done with WoR* and he still hasn't done it. I feel betrayed that's too cool to keep on the back burner, tho the walking on walls is cool too... ahahahahahahawaaaahhhh the flashback!!!! I can't!!!! I'm so dead!!!! I can't. I like. can't. crying pretty much from the very start of it. I can't. Tien!!!!!! Kaladin!!!! honey there's nothing you could do!!! "The boy looked toward him, eyes opening wide. He actually smiled. Behind him, the rest of the squad pulled back. Leaving the three untrained boys exposed. And, sensing weakness, the enemy soldiers descended on Tien and the others. There was an armored lighteyes at their front, in gleaming steel. He swung a sword. Kaladin's brother fell just like that. One eyeblink and he was standing there, looking terrified. The next he was on the ground. 'No!' Kaladin screamed. He tried to get to his feet, but slipped to his knees. His leg didn't work right. Varth's squad hurried forward, attacking the enemies- who had been distracted with Tien and the other two. They'd placed the untrained at the front to stop the momentum of the enemy attack. 'No, no, no!' Kaladin screamed. He used his spear to hoist himself to his feet, then stumbled forward. It couldn't be what he thought. It couldn't be over that quickly. It was a miracle that nobody struck Kaladin down as he stumbled the rest of the distance. He barely thought about it. He just watched where Tien had fallen. There was thunder. No. Hooves. Amaram had arrived with his cavalry, and they were sweeping through the enemy lines. Kaladin didn't care. He finally reached the spot. There, he found three corpses; young, small, lying in a hollow in the stone. Horrified, numb, Kaladin reached out his hand and rolled over the one that was face-down. Tien's dead eyes stared upward." "Kaladin looked down. Why couldn't I protect him? he thought, looking at Tien, remembering his brother's laugh. His innocence, his smile, his excitement at exploring the hills outside Hearthstone. Please. Please let me protect him. Make me strong enough... 'Don't worry,' Kaladin whispered. When hhad he started to cry? 'I'll bring you home. I'll protect you, Tien. I'll bring you back...' He held the body into the evening, long past the end of the battle, clinging to it as it slowly grew cold." Aaaahhhhaaaahhhhh!!!!! wahhhh!!!!!!! oh my goodness I can't!!!! me starting to cry just typing this I can't. monsters. Then him just sprinting off of the bridge OH MY GOODNESSS!!!!! "A trickle of Stormlight closed the wounds on his arm. He smiled, spear held before him. It was as familiar as the body of a lover long lost. The words, a voice said, urgent, as if directly into his mind. In that moment, Kaladin was amazed to realize that he knew them, though they'd never been told to him. 'I will protect those who cannot protect themselves,' he whispered. The Second Ideal of the Knights Radiant." Broooooo me just freaking out!!!!!!! I was going wild at this point, just kinda whisper-screaming, because my family gets mad at me if I do anything louder but I was like BROOOOO!!!!! So insane literally I can't. "Nearby, some of the Parshendi fled, though others stepped up, raising weapons in challenge. Kaladin spun into them, a living storm of steel, wood, and determination." Oh my goodness I love Kaladin fighting people scenes. Literally so amazing. "Living Heralds above, Teft thought, watching Kaladin fight. Just moments ago, the lad had looked near death, skin a dull grey, hands shaking. Now he was a shining whirlwind, a storm wielding a spear. Teft had known many a battlefield, but he had never seen anything remotely like this. Kaladin held the ground before the bridge by himself. White Stormlight streamed from him like a blazing fire. His speed was incredible, nearly inhuman, and his precision- each thrust of the spear hit a neck, side, or other unarmored target of the Parshendi flesh. It was more than the Stormlight. Teft had only a fragmentary recollection of the things his family had tried to teach him, but those memories all agreed. Stormlight did not grant skill. It could not make a man into something he was not. It enhanced, it strengthened, it invigorated. It perfected." Oh yes he is. The shardbearer tho. honestly, didn't really understand that like, at all but wtv. Dalinar fighting was cool.... not as cool as Kaladin, but still good. "He was protecting. He was saving. Yet he was killing. How could something so terrible be so beautiful at the same time?" Bro he and Dalinar are going to get along well. "Most telling, they seemed to back away from fighting Skar or Teft, who were wounded, instead focusing on Kaladin, Moash, and the other spearmen who showed the most skill." Then, the highprince laid a hand on Kaladin's shoulder, the gauntlet gleaming blue, mismatched with the rest of his slate-grey armor. 'I don't know what has been done to you. I can only guess what your life has been like. But know this. You will not be bridgemen in my camp, nor will you be slaves.' 'But...' 'What is a man's life worth?' Dalinar asked softly. 'The slavemasters say one is worth about two emerald broams,' Kaladin said, frowning. 'And what do you say?' 'A life is priceless,' he said immediately, quoting his father. Dalinar smiled, wrinkle lines extending from the corners of his eyes. 'Coincidentally, that is the exact value of a Shardblade. So today, you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty-six hundred priceless lives. And all I had to repay you with was a single priceless sword. Treamayne Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Glad you liked the story. You may also find it interesting to read @Amiras take on WoK Reactions. She did post chapter-by-chapter, so the thread is a bit long, but you may enjoy her take and suppositions as she goes through the book. 1
S. Stormy she/her Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 (edited) You posted it! It's beautiful! The Honor Chasm section isn't under a spoiler tag, by the way. Quote And that's it!!! IheartKaladin4eva she/her Posted October 5, 2022 Author Posted October 5, 2022 Ah yes. should I edit it? 1
Treamayne Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 8 hours ago, IheartKaladin4eva said: Ah yes. should I edit it? If you plan to append your WoR reactions to this thread, then I would say you can edit post one to alter the title accordingly. But I would suggest you make the WoR reactions a new post in the thread (for people who haven't finished WoR but want to read the WoK post).
IheartKaladin4eva she/her Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 ok!!! thank you guys!! also: how do you quote people? like you just did? and whats the protocol? 1
Treamayne Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 (edited) 8 hours ago, IheartKaladin4eva said: ok!!! thank you guys!! also: how do you quote people? like you just did? and whats the protocol? At the bottom left of the post you will see a "+" icon and a "Quote" link. On the bottom right you will see an up arrow. The Up Arrow is how you thank people or "like" a post The "Quote" link is exactly that, when you click it the quote will be added to the reply at the bottom of the thread wherever the cursor is So, if you have already started to reply before you decide to quote you can then add the quote before or after your text depending on the cursor location when you click "Quote" The + icon is multi-quote. As you read a thread, if you want to quote multiple items you click that for each post As you click +, you should see a toaster pop-up on the bottom right of the browser window showing how many quotes you will have They are added in the order you click the + icon, not in the original post order, so you can set the order of quotes for your reply When you are ready to reply, click on the toaster pop-up and it will take you directly to the reply section and add the quotes automatically Finally, you can also highlight a small section of a post and, when hovering over the highlit portion, click the "Quote" button that pops up. Also note that you can move quotes after they have been added to your reply. For example, you add a quote and realize there are no empty lines below it for you to type - so you can hit "enter" before the quote to make an empty line then when you hover over a quote you will see a 4-way arrow at the top-left that you can use to drag the quote up (or down) and move the quote to before the empty line. . . Hope that helps. Edited October 6, 2022 by Treamayne SPAG 1
Odiumiumium he/him Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 2 hours ago, IheartKaladin4eva said: and whats the protocol Basically whenever you think it's necessary. usually it's if a few people have said something before you, and you want to reply to something further up. You can also use it to highlight a specific phrase as i have done, or however else you think you need to. 2
