Rima reacted instantly to the apparent threat, grabbing the sharpened spit and throwing herself behind the side of the barn for cover. "Stay away! I don't want to- muffins?"

He teleported back for a second. "Yes, muffins. Cinnamon muffins, to be precise. See, they're the only thing I can make. I'm a disaster in the kitchen, except for when I'm making these. Enjoy!"

He teleported away again.

Randy went back to his patrolling route. The enemy that had attacked them was gliding ungracefully towards a nearby field. He'd likely be arrested there and that'd be it, hopefully. He couldn't exactly save them the trouble that was coming but, at least for now, they were alive. Maybe they'd let them off with only prison.

That taken care of, he let himself get lost in the feeling of the wind hitting him on the face. There were some new closed plane models but Randy didn't know what people saw in those, if you were going to let go of this feeling, you might as well be playing with toy planes.

He dodged an electric ray coming his way, those were pretty common. Pretty effective against airplanes. They were dangerous but the enemy clearly wasn't focusing their mages on them. Probably better off helping on the frontlines, especially considering Randy and his teammates were pretty much on stand-by, so that meant there was only the occasional ray to dodge. Which to be honest was fine by him, though he did wonder for a moment how difficult it would be to evade constant shots from below, it could be a fun challenge. Maybe learn to cast them too. It was an option, now that he didn't live with his father telling him how unworthy a profession being a mage was, getting rid of his book collection when he wasn't looking. Maybe he'd do it some day, just maybe.

As he was thinking about it, some light hit him in the eye, making him blink. It was like the reflection you'd get by aiming a wristwatch at an angle under the sunlight. Of course he was a few hundred meters above the nearest wristwatch and he very much doubted any reflections would reach this far. Randy tried to find the source of the light. It wasn't easy, he was moving fast and whatever it was, was clearly pretty small. He went off his route and started circling a smaller area, but it was still hard work. His attention had to be divided between watching for other planes in the horizon, watching for mages below, and looking for the light.

He finally spotted, something. It looked like a bird but, something was off. The tail wasn't the right shape for an eagle or other birds of similar size, and no matter how white a bird was, they didn't straight up shine. What he was seeing now had to be metallic, against all logic, kind of like a miniature plane.

Randy caught the reflection again, this time straight into his eyes as he was staring directly at it, and almost lost control of the plane. He blinked until he stopped seeing green spots in front of him and decided to follow the mysterious craft. He'd get in trouble, but his curiosity was stronger than his sense of duty.

It’s ok if you can only respond occasionally. I understand that people might be busy with other things.

Ryker was closing in on the fortress up ahead and started to pull out of his dive.

He flicked a couple of the switches on the control panel mounted on his wrist. With a metallic click the feathers and wings extended outwards and started beating to a clockwork rhythm.

He hung suspended only a few feet away from the fortress.

“Alright, that was fun!” He said to himself. “Now where is a window?” He clicked the switch on the side of his goggles. A lens clicked into place, and his view zoomed out putting more of the wall into focus.

The dark gray stone slabs were broken up by a few black rectangular windows. He scanned the wall, looking for one that was open; finally he spotted one.

He guided a wind current towards him and pushed himself towards  the open window below.

@Eluvianii, and anyone inside the fortress.

"A... moron?" Rima muttered to herself. She could feel the magic pouring off him, though she didn't recognize the feeling. Just oddness.

I do have to ask, so Ryker is with the other team? Like, whatever country the battle is being fought against?

I guess at this point I'm just wondering who's fighting against who. This started a little too open. Are the countries named yet? Sorry if they are and I missed it.

Not quite, @Eluvianii. Ryker is a pirate/thief. He was contracted to steal some blueprints from the fortress. I’m not sure if the fortress is the side the foot soldiers are on, or if it is the enemy; but right now he is neutral. I don’t know which side to have him join eventually. I guess I’ll  have to see where it goes.

I see. Well, I guess I'll just roll with it. Open worldbuilding can be fun.

Randy had been following the mini plane for a while now, until it came to a drastic halt. Right in front of one of their command centers. What?

He couldn't stop quite so easily, so he risked getting closer to have a look right before he was forced to pass it over. It was a person. A person with wings. He shouldn't have been surprised, there was weirder stuff out there, but he was anyway. Not only that but it had come directly to this place. A spy?

He should report it, he did have a radio on board. But, that wasn't exciting. If he reported it then that would be it. "Thank you for your service, soldier, now go back to your duties while we deal with it". No, he wanted to find this out by himself. It may amount to nothing, he might not even find the spy but his task right now was almost pointless anyway. The others could surely deal with it.

He started feeling like a kid looking for an adventure on his backyard as he flew in a big circle and onto the landing track on the side of the fortress. Getting inside wasn't difficult. He made up some fake orders and that was that. Everyone was too busy with the ongoing battle to question him. Randy wasn't even sure himself why he was doing this, there was no benefit save for satisfying his own curiosity. However, every step already felt better than chasing defeated pilots who only wanted to escape. The war was so pointless, surely he could allow himself this one little escapade before going back to blindly following orders.

Now, to look for the plane-person. He was so going to be sent to court for this.

Kay new thing he has really good hearing. Might be magic idk

Josten teleported back, this time ending up leaned against the barn next to her. "Excuse me, I am not a moron. In fact, I may be the smartest person you've ever met! Congratulations, you are in the presence of a genius."

This girl could be fun to stay around. It'd be quite entertaining to see how riled up I could get her.

"The name's Josten. And you are?"

"Rima. You're too loud. You should hide." Rima began creeping towards the entrance to the barn, then stopped, paralyzed with shock and fear as she saw men in black uniforms heading towards it.

Figuring out from Rima's reaction that the men in black probably weren't friends, Josten grabbed her by the arm and teleported them to the first place he could think of. Unfortunately, the first place he could think of was his muffin closet. So now he was squished in a tiny closet with a random girl and thousands of muffins. Plus, some of the muffins had fallen through when they teleported in, so now the bad guys would get muffins.

"Sorry, we'll have to be here for a while. Teleporting another person takes...a lot of energy." He grabbed a muffin from next to him. "Muffin?"

He let go, putting his hands up in an act of surrender. "My bad, sorry I just saved you from those evil dudes. Would you like to go back? I think I've got enough strength to send you right to them."

"I didn't want you to die. It isn't so hard for me to teleport other people that it's worth getting a guilty conscience to avoid. Not everyone's evil. There's a lot of evil people, but it's not everyone."

Ryker hovered in front of an open window high above the ground. He reached out and grabbed the large windowsill, and turned off his wings flapping. The sudden weight pulling him backwards was uncomfortable, but with a small gust of wind he was able to keep his balance.

“Alright Ryker, this is it.” He said as he slid some of the switches on his wrist control to the right position and his wings folded into the bulky pack.

“Smokescreen? Check. Pneumatic gun? Check.” He clicked his goggles into place, and jumped through the window. “Show time.”

A large stone walled hallway barren of any decorations lay before him. Far down the hallway a couple of large oak doors lined the inner walls.

He slowly crept down the hallway with his gun in his right hand and smoke bomb in his left. He took careful steps but then… *creak* one of the wooden floorboards groaned underneath him.

He froze, and an icy shock went down his spine, as he heard someone coming from downstairs.

I’m not very good at drawing people, but I’m halfway decent at drawing things, so here is Ryker’s flyer. @Eluvianii

"I'm not the one who would've died there," Rima said softly.

"You were afraid, and I could tell you didn't want to be there. So..." He held up the muffin. "I made you not be there."

"Because it's fun to teleport muffins at people and pester them. But also they're really tasty, so it's not really too annoying."

Rima picked up a muffin absentmindedly. Ice immediately began crystallizing on it, but she didn't notice. "Nothing better to do?"
