He told Calano everything he remembered from the founding of the clinic up until the present.

Calano stared at Bookwyrm.

"I don't remember any of this. I'm sorry, I... I don't understand."

"No Xeorge. Potatoes are for eating. These dish rags are what we use to scrub dishes."

"Yup yuppp!"

"No! That's disgusting. I swear, if I ever catch you with a potato on a human femur..."

*Communicator ringing*

"Yupyup?"

"Sorry, I gotta go. Apparently Calano, despite all odds, is alive again. That guy doesn't know when to quit. See ya!"

"I thought that might be the case. Is it okay if I probe your mind?" Bookwyrm asked.

"And me?" Ranryu asked as she entered the room. "Can I go in too?"

"I'm... I'm not sure I'd like that... But if you think it's necessary."

Calano begins to twiddle his thumbs.

Thaidakar popped in and blinked, "Calano? weren't you dead like an hour ago?"

"There's a lot of people right now, and I don't know most of you. Can someone explain to me what's going on? I don't know why I'm here, or why I look like this, but what's going on?"

Calano looked around fearfully at everyone, then reached into his pocket, pulled out some Purple, and spread it across the wound on his leg.

Calano shook his head. "Should I?"

Ranryu inhaled sharply.

"That's really really not good. Time to mind probe?"

"I don't... I... I remember feelings. Glimpses of emotion. But no actual memories. I'm sorry." Calano looked truly apologetic.

"It's fine," Bookwyrm said reassuringly. "You did nothing wrong. We're just trying to figure out what happened, so we can fix it." Bookwyrm placed two of his fingers on each of Calano's temples. He closed his eyes, and harnessed three different abilites: Elven Telepathy, Alagaesian mental techniques, and Cytonics. Using the combined mental force of those powers, Bookwyrm his consciousness into Calano's mind.

Bookwyrm searched, trying to figure out where the missing memories had gone.

If you want to give a description of what your mindscape is like, Calano, that'd be appreciated. And also maybe something to further the plot.

Bookwyrm was startled to hear the voice there.

I'm not looking for answers, Bookwyrm said. Not right now, at least. I'm trying to help a friend who's lost.

His path is his own, and his judgement. He will find his own way, he did always find the right path in the end.

Ranryu jumps.

Hey! You almost left without me! Don't you know never to do a mind probe without a spotter?

Maybe. I still feel like I need to do something. It wouldn't feel right otherwise. I swore an oath: 'I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.' Calano needs protection right now. He needs shelter, but not of any physical variety. I feel like I need to help him, even if he can make it on his own in the end.

Bookwyrm turned his attention to Ranryu.

Uh...my methods of probing are a bit more...homemade than normal, he said. I've usually managed on my own. Sorry. But I can use your help, so thanks for being here.

He can protect himself, even if he doesn't know it. You can not know how much it pains me to say this, but find his own way he must.

Ok. This is my first time inside such a... an alive mind , though, so I'm not sure how much help I'll be.

Lark coughed angrily. "Excuse me everyone. I know you're all very excited to see that Calano's still alive, but he is, in fact, rather badly wounded. He needs medical treatment immediately. Unless, perhaps, you would like him to die again? I thought not." Lark summoned a floating stretcher, waving a hand and lifting Calano up onto it.

Bookwyrm nodded and stood up, but kept his mental link.

"We can probe him while you take him to the infirmary."

Bookwyrm hesitated suddenly. Then a pistol materialized in his hand. It had a strange circular part with a glowing white ring where the handle met the barrel. He pointed it at Lark.

"Why are you helping him? You took his clinic, caused his death. Why? What changed?"
