Trusk'our he/him Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Okay, now I want to mention that I’m pretty sure that the Unsealed Metalmind that granted all powers that we see in The Bands of Mourning were created by Kelsier, acting as the Sovereign, not the Lord Ruler. However, that’s not to say that the Metalminds that the Lord Ruler possessed weren’t Unsealed either. In The Bands of Mourning, the characters questioned why the Lord Ruler would have wanted to turn his bracers into Unsealed Metalminds, as that could have given someone else his powers. However, he could have done this because he feared getting Hemalurgically spiked. If his bracers really were Unsealed Metalminds, then even if he had his Feruchemical gold stolen away Hemalurgically, he could have tapped the Unsealed Metalminds to regain the power (of course he could probably have just Allomantically burned a goldmind that he’d already filled, but still). Additionally, he may have been okay with someone else gaining his power if he were to perish. We see that he did try to prepare humanity for Ruin, even if he died, so I don’t think it’s that far-fetched an idea to think that he wanted to give one last bit of an edge to whoever would have survived his death. Plus, no one even knew about Unsealed Metalminds at the time, and you can’t tap them without knowing that you can tap them first. I certainly could be wrong, and Rashek very likely didn’t make Unsealed Metalminds, but slight as it is, I think that there is still a possibility.

Seeing as they were melted down and sold, I don’t think it matters much. Rashek’s bands are long gone. 1

Rashek’s bands are long gone. Yeah, but in BoM one of the arguments made against the Bands of Mourning even being Unsealed Metalminds was why the Lord Ruler would have wanted such a thing. My post wasn't so much about it really being a relevant thing anymore, more a possibility that would have been fun to consider.

They likely were made of an assortment of metals, since all his other Feruchemical storages seemed to vanish as soon as they were pulled away from him. One of the metals used in their creation could have been nicrosil.

This is also supported by two aspects in the books. In Well of Ascension it is directly stated that his bracers actually held very little Atium for starters. The other aspect was that Coinshots, Lurchers, and Mistborn could Push and Pull on his other jewelry which while the real world reason for this was Brandon hadn't thought up that Metalminds resist Pushes and Pulls, the only logical reason in universe would be that he isn't storing his massive amount of Compounded traits in them. His new government was supposed to have inherited the Lord Ruler’s atium reserves—a supposed cache of the metal comprising an amazing treasure. Kelsier had counted on his new kingdom holding those riches; he had died expecting it. There was only one problem. Nobody had ever found the reserve. They had found some small bit—the atium that had made up the bracers that the Lord Ruler had used as a Feruchemical battery to store up age. However, they had spent those on supplies for the city, and they had actually contained only a very small bit of atium. Nothing like the cache was said to have. There should still be, somewhere in the city, a wealth of atium thousands of times larger than those bracers. This to me is quite different from saying that this is made of various metals, and that the smallest part is made of Atium.
