Time… (Space (2026/01/08), pt. 2)
She had been here for months, headed toward Salvation. She would get there any day now. Just a few more years. Just a… Just… She tried not to dwell on… time. She had turned off the clocks on all the holographic displays; she had taken down the old-school wall calendar and hid it somewhere—she didn’t know where, and hoped she didn’t remember. She just let the days slip by, sleeping when she felt like it, eating… occasionally. Sometimes she turned off the artificial gravity and just let herself float while her mind drifted, hours passing in no time.
They hadn’t sent anyone else with her; after all, this had been her idea. She had fought for it, and succeeded. That didn’t help with the mindless boredom, however. Each day the same. Days themselves lost meaning—there was no day and there was no night. There was no light, only darkness. There was no time.
She still got access to the Network every so often. She had grown used to the pattern, and knew when to expect the… transmissions. If they could be called that. Mainly just the occasional software update or status of… of… what she was leaving behind. She’d be out of range soon, though. Come to think of it, she felt like it had been too long since the last transmission. Oh. She must have already gone out of range. How long ago was that? Had she actually received any transmissions? She… decided to ignore those thoughts and drift.
