Discuss Chapter Two.

The things I noted:

1. Bendalloy in action!
2. Aluminum. Inert. You can't Push or Pull on this. Discuss!
Oh Snap, I'm an Allomancer.

I wouldn't be good at remembering all this cosmere stuff without Pokemon.

interesting combination with bendalloy and gold-feruchemy...it would make the fast healing even faster (from others' point of view)

I think Marasi is a Soother. Or the opposite thing, I don't remember them too well. Anyway doing something with emotions. Or other strange things... but I'm quite convinced that they took her with them for some secret reason. And I doubt she's Steris' cousin:

“Cousin,” Steris said.

“Same as . . .” Waxillium asked, nodding toward Marasi.

The three regarded him with confused expressions for a moment, but then Lord Harms jumped in. “Ah, no. Different side of the family.”

I wonder, who(m?) does the Path worship. Saze? Why would he prohibit worshipping him? But I can't think of anyone else.

I actually got the feeling that she also was a... Slider? Are they the ones who use bendalloy? Or is that Pulsers? Anyway, I felt that because Lord Harms would cough every once and a while.

Followers of the Path may have decided not to worship their god, whether Saze or someone else, as a response to 1000 years of being forced to worship the Lord Ruler.

it would seem typical of Saze that he doesn't want to be worshiped. That's the kind of person he is. Makes perfect sense to me.

Aluminum being Allomantically inert could lead to some very interesting properties. Obviously we have the bullet that Wax is given, but since aluminum is stronger (by weight) than steel, it could replace obsidian as the material of choice for Push/Pull-proof melee weapons. Metallic decorations are another, taking a step further away from the aristocracy of the Final Empire. I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

I wonder exactly why it is inert, and why no one noticed back during the days of the Final Empire. With a little bit of research, I noticed that aluminum is one of the lightest atomic weight metals, beaten out only by lithium and sodium. It was also mentioned that some of its alloys are also inert, and research tells me that aluminum alloys with silicon, another light atomic weight element, very easily. It's possible that Allomancers can push on anything with sufficient atomic weight, and most metals just happen to fall into that category. If this is the case, then a Coinshot could also push on heavy non-metals like iodine or radon.

I think I just blew my own mind

Interesting thought, but I think you are a bit off-track. Aluminum was extremely rare in Mistborn, as TLR suppressed knowledge of it. Also, Aluminum was extremely rare during the technological epoch of Mistborn (assuming similar mining capabilities to that period of Earth history). It was only discovered fairly recently, and how to mine it properly. So I think that's the reason nobody knew about it, and it's Allomantically inert simply because of what its other properties are (destroying metals). Same thing for Duralumin, and it was not noticed simply because Vin never even considered using such a powerful/useful alloy instead of readily available coins.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw that Aluminum was inert. I knew it couldn't be useless!

If Aluminum can alloy with silicon, could they make their computers Allomantically inert for the future trilogies?

It's great to finally see an External Temporal metal in action. Lots of cool stuff. What I want to know is if shooting into a Bendalloy bubble has the same effect as shooting out of it. Then it could make a rather effective shield.

So I kinda wrote this RP, I think it's kinda cool.

Imagine the most awesome real life creature you can think of. (A shark, obviously.) Then think of the most awesome feature someone can have. (A manly beard, obviously.)
This book is a great white shark with a epic manly beard that is circling [insert political figure you hate] getting ready for the kill. It's that awesome.

I don't know if an aluminum/silicon alloy would work in a computer, silicon is used in computers cause it's got some very specific properties (it behaves similarly to carbon), seems to me alloying it might make it unusable for computing. But IDK enough about chemistry/physics/computer science to be sure.

re: shooting into a bendalloy bubble I'd imagine it would have a similar effect as shooting out.

I didn't notice that.
I thought of a Sooter, because most Allomantic powers are good in fight, not in discussion. But Sliders are useful, as we've seen.

Or she may be something entirely else... like a cool steampunk hemallurgical robot made of aluminium (other metals Wax would notice... or metals inserted into someone's body are also invisible? I don't remember) and painted to look like a girl... (that would explain her dullness) :D

Followers of the Path may have decided not to worship their god, whether Saze or someone else, as a response to 1000 years of being forced to worship the Lord Ruler.

But it's their god that forbids them, they worship him/her anyway.

it would seem typical of Saze that he doesn't want to be worshiped. That's the kind of person he is. Makes perfect sense to me.

I guess you're right.

Aluminium beig inert - makes perfect sense to me. As it is something like an antimagic metal... I wonder if a cloud of aluminium dust could block Allomantic powers. It would make a good explosion, that's for sure.

Or an aluminium foil hat as protection from emotion-affecting powers. :D

That's pretty much my thinking with aluminum. Takes away metals, therefore inert. Makes an intuitive sense to me. However, Realmatically... :P

I agree, Sazed would be the one person who would actually forbid his followers from worshipping him.

I found this quote from the HoA Q&A:

"Sazed didn't immediately leave this [how to run his religion], as he was too focused on other things. The next period of time will be difficult for Sazed, as he essentially sees himself as an avatar of deity--the force of Preservation--and not God with an upper case letter. He's still not sure what Truth is 100%. And there is an afterlife, but it's probably not what you're thinking. In other words, Sazed has not touched Heaven or Hell, and actually doesn't yet know what the final beyond contains. He has, however, run into some people who have been sticking around something of a middle place. It's related to the larger cosmology, and I'm afraid that I'll need to RAFO anything further. "
I've got a degree in Theoretical Realmatics.

"Adonalsium. Have you heard the term?" If not, you should come to Cosmere 101 to find out about it!

Yeah, that's what I assumed it was. Makes me even more curious about what it does in Feruchemy and Hemalurgy.

Also, I wonder if there's anything unusual about Pushing or Pulling on duralumin. It could be one of the inert alloys that was mentioned, but by the "aluminium = antimagic" logic it might actually be affected more strongly than other metals.

Sazed as the god of pathism makes perfect sense. He definitely wouldn't want people to worship him, so instead, his religion would be based less on praying to him, worshipping, etc., and more on following his "path."

Also, does anyone else feel like these robberies aren't even the main conflict of the book? I feel like the robberies will simply lead Wax to uncover something larger.

One more theory. I'm gonna guess that Tan's not dead yet. I predict a scene wherein Wax is reminded of Lessie's death, and this time, instead of immediately blocking the scene, he remembers a detail. Something seen or heard that makes sense to him after all that time, and he realizes that Tan is behind it all.

Does Marasi remind anyone else of Vin.

I know Vin didn't have any children and her mother comited suicide; but I can' remember what happend to her father after he was outed by the Inquisitors, or what about other children he may have had.

I suspect that aluminum's inertness is tied to some of the properties of burning it and duralumin.

When a person burns duralumin, all presently burning metal stores quickly burn up. However, the duralumin store itself remains unaffected.

In Mistborn, when Vin burned aluminum, all her metal stores vanished, including the aluminum store. However, I suspect that the canon surrounding aluminum's inertness and aluminum burning may not have been cemented at the time.

This, then, is my prediction:

I predict that aluminum and duralumin are unaffected by the burning of aluminum, duralumin, chromium, and nicrosil, and that the same property that allows them to be unaffected by these also makes them unaffected by the burning of iron and steel.

(I wonder if Sazed can see aluminum clearly and change words in it, or if it shines brightly like all other metals?)
