What I'm about to say is purely speculation from what I understand from the series. I always imagined that a person has a normal connection with everyone else. Some will notice you, some won't, your charisma and physical attractiveness will add to others noticing you. Storing connection will lower how much you are normally noticed, and make it difficult to build a relationship with others. While you are storing a good amount of connection, you might walk through a crowd and hardly be noticed, your friends might not have the same warm feelings when they see you, as they would when you are not storing. If you store a lot for some time, you might go around being completely unnoticed until someone works really hard to notice you (think Grey man from The Wheel of Time). When you tap it, too varying degrees, you may easily get noticed, more will consider what you say. Even if you aren't very charismatic, people might respond to your words and actions as if you were a natural leader or speaker. Taping in high volume might make you light up like a beacon in the crowd (so to speak) you may become the complete center of attention. Letting go, and allowing yourself to go back to neutral, can shut this down, but I think the connections you made, or the influence you had will have a lasting impression. You might not garner as much attention anymore, but how you made others feel about you, they will remember that. This means to me that a Feruchemical duralumin ferring could be the ultimate assassin. For certain situations, storing might be more beneficial than tapping. You could walk in and out without being noticed at all. Working as a team, you could take the attention off your partner, by tapping, everyone will have difficulty not paying attention to you. Tap enough and, whether it's good feelings or bad, they might have trouble thinking about anything else but what you are doing.

Stormlight Archive Book 3(+) Readings
Cstryon replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Stormlight Archive
As a behavioral health professional (EMT, and BHT currently working in a psychiatric crisis facility) I don't see Kaladin as having a depressive disorder. What I see is someone with a lot of hardships who simply has poor coping skills. It is of course different for everyone, and I'm not qualified to diagnose. But in my experience, people with depressive disorders, usually will experience symptoms for no apparent reason, where as people with (relatively) healthy minds will experience depressed periods when circumstances are, well, depressing. Kal has had a hard life, and had a lot of hardships in a relatively short amount of time. What he's suffering from seems to me more personality. He just doesn't have any healthy ways he knows of to cope with hardships. EMTrevor's example of crying during the performance even though nothing should be wrong is more typical of depression, in my experience. Again, I do have the experience, and helping people with behavioral health problems, is what I do for a living. But I am hardly an authority, I am no Dr of psych. Nor do I have any degrees in psych. So I could be wrong in my observation. -
Bronze compounding appeals to me because I'm a narcoleptic. But I'd like to be a bronze ferring tin misting. Some of that wakefulness could come from the clarity from burning tin. Although it would be cool to be able to pick up on end positive magic use while never sleeping.

Fifth Heightening Immortality and Feruchemy
Cstryon replied to Darkarma's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hmm interesting... If we changed immortality to agelessness, would you be able to store age? Assuming you don't age anymore, maybe you wouldn't be able to put any age in because supernatural agelessness prevents you from changing? -
"Real Life" Allomancy or How the second Trilogy might work
Cstryon replied to Pathfinder's topic in Mistborn
So considering ethical issues here. My wife pointed out, Scadrians aren't human the way Earthlings are. The Scadrians are parts Ruin and Preservation. So they might see spiking someone to save someone was "ruin this to preserve this." which is exactly what their world is. -

The closest physical book to me just happens to be my mother in law's "Frozen Heat" by Richard Castle... "Thanks for waiting."

Aside from a sword and maybe other little metallic objects, Rand doesn't really have much metal on him. He doesn't wear armor or anything like that. But LR is so powerful, I'm pretty sure he could push and pull the trace metals in Rand's body. Now one challenge that might apply is the fact that for all intents and purposes, Rand is very invested when holding the one power, which might prevent TLR from pushing or pulling on the metals inside of Rand. But another plus one for TLR is a duralumin fueled Atium burn, and then compounding zinc, steel, and pewter, and just rushing in and finishing Rand. Compounding pewter will not only make him hulk out, but make him a very graceful hulk, and mental and physical speed means he doesn't need time to think out his attack. I'm thinking before Rand has a chance to react, LR would already be on him, giving him a death blow. Aside from being super powered, Rand can be killed by traditional means. With Atium and physical, mental speed and stupid amounts of super strength, TLR might very well end this fight quickly. I think the only thing that could put this fight in Rand's favor is TLR has immortality fatigue, and may be to sure of himself to act out immediately. If you haven't read the wheel of time, you should. I think you might enjoy it. If you don't want to read the whole thing, is recommend at least reading a summary.

He may have some accent... Faint enough to be difficult to notice. I listen to the audio books so the accents I hear are what ever Michael Kramer comes up with. One thing I noticed though, the accent he uses when he reads the letter in tWoK, is the same as the accent he uses for Sazed. This could be just Michael.... But if my suspicions that he is in on some of the mysterious stuff in the Cosmere is correct, it could be that the Terris people have the Dane accent as the Yolish.

Agreed. Though considering the strength shown of TLR's emotional allomancy, and Rand already being a bit unstable (I forget if Nyneave healed that) TLR could make a mess of Rand's mind. If even argue that considering how blunt emotional allomancy can be, the battle of wills could be more difficult than Rand's battle with the dark one.... At least more immediately devastating... How long can Rand hold the void when TLR is rioting every emotion he has?
-
Now I won't say Rand can't win. But some things we need to consider... Possibilities. TLR can compound everything. And likely is skilled enough with Atium to anticipate most moves that Rand can make. Compound zinc, and steel, and he's a blur. His strength with pushing and pulling might as well be telekinesis. A death gate would be an instant kill but Rand would have to hit him with it, which would be hard for someone who can see a few seconds into the future... And Atium + Duralumin means he can see far into the future. Compounding pewter, plus the grace with burning pewter, add in weight, physical and mental speed, and Atium, Rand would need to make his moves quickly. Power for power, Rand has more for sure. But mixing his powers, and using them strategically, TLR definitely has a chance.

Below may have spoilers for anyone that hasn't read the Mistborn series, or the Wheel of Time. If you don't want to be spoiled, please stop reading here. Who would win in a death match? For Rand, his strength as he was before his battle of wills with the Dark One. Or "Jesus Rand" as some would call him. He's arguably the strongest male in the One Power. He has deep seeded problems with killing females, though this issue wouldn't apply to this match up. He is able to channel the True Power, but most likely won't because of the effect it will have on him. He could use Bale Fire, but he knows at this point the damage it is causing to the pattern, and most likely won't. He is somewhat mentally ill from the damage the taint did before he cleansed it. The Lord Ruler can compound every metal, and there are hints that he might be able to use Feruchemy to increase his power in Allomancy. His healing, I'd argue is several times more effective than Wolverine. Let's also assume for this battle, The Lord Ruler isn't so apathetic, as he was in Mistborn. He wants to win, and will do what ever he can to win Let's assume The Lord Ruler has very full metalminds, enough that running out will take a long time, even with him using them at high rates. Also he has plenty of metal reserves, and extra vials available. I've seen a topic made for this match up on space battles, and unfortunately, it seems most people weren't considering what is really allowed with compounding. Some point to remember for the Lord Ruler. Atium allows him to see what Rand is going to do, even if he can't see the weaves, he can see the action. So what do you guys think?

@Endurant. Not rude at all! I am definitely following Sanderson's laws for this, I'm a big fan of hard magic. And I also agree with defining in more detail what the magic does instead of just saying it's manipulation of time and space. @Jerric and Endurant. I will definitely look up those examples you provided. I'm hoping to have my system so scientific that it might as well be science. Of course, like Swimmingly said, I'm ready to throw in some mysticism. But with that I want it to be more for the readers sake. At some point down the line, the reader, user, or whatever will understand the science behind it. I thank you all for your input. I think this gives me a good starting point. If any of you have more to add, I welcome the help and suggestions. You can all count on seeing what I've got once I have something presentable.

That sounds like an interesting method. Would you be willing to send me one of your manuals (assuming you have it saved on a computer) so I could see an example? PM me if you would be willing and I'll give you my email. Don't worry, I won't go stealing your work. Also I'm not big on playing board games, and don't even have anyone living near me that is into board games. It's your work, and as an asipiring artist/creator/hopefully one day writer, I respect the work of others.

You guys awesome. Thank you all for the suggestions! Well to help you guys help me, I think I should give you an idea of what I've got so far. My idea has to do with manipulating space and time, but without time travel. Power users can bend space and time, allowing them to bend the space around them making it possible to do things like create a bubble of space around them where physical direction would be different than natural space and even change space in areas like on the other side of the room. This would allow them to change the path of projectiles, and even bend the shape of an otherwise static object, causing the projectile to miss, and even (after they stop using) breaking objects because they are no longer shaped naturally. Also, with practice and strength in the power, would allow them something similar to telekinesis. Manipulating time would allow the caster to slow time giving them a chance to think things through (at first they'd be slowed as well) and with practice, allow them to slow time for everything but themselves, essentially giving them superspeed. Another application would be to change direction for themselves or other objects, I guess giving abilities similar to a windrunner. Only they are not really affecting gravity, but the space around them making gravity pull in a different direction. To go side by side, another system that would be different buy similar is a power that can put holes in spacetime. Allowing for creating wormholes, singularities, wiping things from the time line like balefire from The Wheel of Time. I plan on making some devastating consequences to using the power, like insanity from experiencing life with time flowing at different speeds, physical ailments from parts of the body aging at different speeds, physical stress from having parts of the body not being in the same change of the shape in space as the rest. A major obstacle I'm having is how do document it. Spread sheet? A list in a word document? Some other method I haven't considered?

HAH. As I was reading the thread and thinking of what I would do with some kind of magic, I was starting to think something very similar to this, and then I read your post! I would like to be able to go back in time in such a way where I could have myself make a different choice, and live out that outcome. Rather than jumping back in time, I would actually turn the clock back, there by not having a future and past self both being in the same time frame, but having all the time that has already happened after the event, not have happened at all, so I could choose to do something else. There are plenty of times when I think back to an event where I think things might have been much better if I did C rather than B or A. I guess that's similar to The Butterfly Effect, but my thinking is that after you go back and choose differently, you then have to live through life from that point on instead of being able to jump back to the "present".

That's an interesting idea! I think what I'll do is start with the things I've pictured being done, and list those abilities with descriptions of what they do, and then list the costs of doing those things. After this, I can list other things as they come to me, as long as they blend well with what is already listed.
-
You mean like cause and effect, risk vs reward? Would organizing it in a similar format like Pros and Cons be a practical way of doing so? Example: Power - Effect - Cost?
-
So you're thinking like a rough list of ability and cost, and from there organize it?
-
For a few years now, I've had my own magic system idea floating around in my head. I have ideas on what is possible, and what the cost if using it would be. I've decided a really want to build it. Get the system well defined and understood, in case I decided to really build my own fantasy universe and story, or help out some of my writer friends with their stories/worlds. If anyone is willing to help, how should I begin organizing it? What format should I use to outline the limitations and possibilities? Thanks in advance, if I can get this going, you can guarantee the 17th Shard will be among the first to know what I came up with, and I welcome all suggestions and criticisms.

I think Trell and his brother might be Shards
Cstryon replied to BreathTaker's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Maybe Trell shattered Adonalsium. I don't think so, but it would be interesting if Hoid is trying to collect A's powers or an army of power users to fight Trell in the overall Cosmere story arc. -
