Does it matter? He's so awesome that he'll have (Lopen is the clear Ensemble Darkhorse, and I think that he's awesome).

In an animated series? Sure. Changing that in an animated adaptation would be like making the characters of ATLA Caucasian. Now, due to irreconcilable physical differences between Rosharan and Earth humans, I think that skipping the epicanthic folds is permissible (but certianly not desireable) in a live-action adaptation only. And even then, it would have to be an otherwise-perfect adaptation, and I would prefer the use of makeup or CGI to get those folds in. I think that there are subtle differences between this situation and the infamous Racebending incident. Most notably: 1. Rosharan humans are very ethnically distinct from Earth humans, making heavy makeup at least absolutely necessary for accurate portrayal. Compare the Racebending incident, where all portrayed ethnicities in the base material were based on real-world humans, making the change unnecessary. 2. Rosharan culture is mostly alien and not modeled strongly on Earth culture. Compare the Racebending incident, which left white people approximating very Asian cultures. 3. There are no ethnically clear-cut protagonist and antagonist factions in SA. The bad guys are varied, as are the good guys, as opposed to the Racebending incident which had essentially an ethnic war that had really racist overtones in the film adaptation due to poor casting. Just my 2 clearchips.

Upvoting this because pure awesomeness, Even though it's something of a crackpot theory for reasons already discussed...I love it and I soooooo want it to be true. SA appears to be a big Crisis Crossover sort of series. And Vin plus Vasher plus Nightblood plus Galladon plus every other epic badass in the cosmere equals an asskicking curb-stomp of Odium.

H'mmm. With an LOTR budget, and letting the epicanthic folds thing slide (because it really is kind of a small thing), it would be a really good movie series or TV miniseries. Seriously, why did Brandon make the Rosharans who look most Asian lack epicanthic folds, and the ones who look Ethiopian, San, Kenyan, or generically Caucasian have the folds? Makes a very cinematic series extremely hard to adapt perfectly. Looks good. She'd be a great Shallan.
-
Huh. She just LOOKS like she's 20 or so. Second part: True dat.

Oops, sorry for not putting in spoiler tags. My bad!

Too young, IMHO. How about Angelina Jolie? Or would she be better for Navani?

This is why I want Sazed to send Marsh to Roshar. Marsh is likely to have double Gold, and DEFINITELY has double atium, which suggests that Sazed keeps him stocked. Ergo, epic badass fight. The big one would be: Are Shardblades and Shardplate affected by iron and steel Allomancy? If yes, then Marsh would win with ease. If not, I think that Kaladin could kick his butt.

What's wrong with an older actor playing a younger character? And, Dalinar is at LEAST middle-aged; he's a career soldier with two adult sons, so he's a minimum of 40 Earth years. If memory serves, he's stated to be more than 40 Rosharan years, which would make him at LEAST 44. And Stephen Lang is PERFECT for Dalinar, age aside. His character in "Avatar" was basically Evil Dalinar, and his character in Terra Nova was basically Sci-Fi Dalinar. And in both roles, Lang was the best part of whatever scene he happened to be in. I must admit that I prefer quality actors over look-alikes. Makeup can change faces and age, but bad acting can't save even the perfect look-alike.

After WOR (top 3 of each): Best character (as in overall quality, not my favorite character): Kaladin, Dalinar, Shallan (she's really grown on me). Honorable mention: THE Lopen, the Ensemble Darkhorse. Most fun: Hoid, THE Lopen, Renarin. Most awesomely hilarious: THE Lopen, Hoid, Lift. Best villain, deuteragonist, or antihero: Sadeas, Most badass: Szeth, Kaladin, Dalinar. Most attractive (from my SWM POV): Navani, Jasnah, Shallan. I like smart women with attitude. Most interesting: Eshonai, Szeth, Renarin. Honorable mention: Coolest: Navani, Lopen, Honorable mention: Szeth, Kaladin. Makes me root for them the most: Renarin, Kaladin, Dalinar. Honorable mention: and Lopen. Overall top 10: Kaladin, Hoid, Lopen, Dalinar, Shallan, Jasnah, Renarin, Navani, the rest of Bridge 4. Honorable mention: Szeth,

Dalinar is Stephen Lang: He was awesome in Avatar and Terra Nova. His Terra Nova character was the only good part, and was basically sci-fi Dalinar. David Tennant as Kaladin. Chris Hemsworth might actually be a good Adolin; he's tall and buff. Tom Hiddleston would be decent, too, if he dyes his hair blond. I think that books, especially series like the Stormlight Archive, are best adapted into miniseries. That allows the plot to be kept whole without the hassle of 3-hour movies and filling out a full season or 3 of TV shows. Also, Joss Whedon MUST direct. Nobody else is capable of doing it right.

Theory: Heralds are now evil. (Words of Radiance SPOILERS)
GroundPetrel replied to GroundPetrel's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Pretty much, yeah. And now I feel like a dunce for not seeing that before. -
So I've done some more thinking about this, and I have to say that David Tennant would make the perfect Wayne. I mean, his 10th Doctor role has so many total Wayne moments...it'd be practically natural for him. Tillaume--I know that people have been suggesting Michael Caine and Sir Ian McKellen (who would be fantastic, by the way), but the perfect choice is obvious: Sir Patrick Stewart. You know you want him! For Miles, the logical choice is Christopher Eccleston. Just his raw acting prowess. Wax is a tough choice, but I'd actually say Viggo Mortensen. He had a really good Wax-ish vibe as Aragorn. Ralph Fiennes is the quintessential Marsh; tall, imposing, and if you've seen him in "Coriolanus" and "Harry Potter", you know exactly what I mean. OreSeur can be any sufficiently capable classically-trained British actor. TenSoon is so totally George Takei . Clubs is Stellan Skarsgard. None of the other suggestions really fit. Neal Patrick Harris, James Spader, and John Barrowman would all make a fine Breeze, but I'm leaning towards NPH myself based on his "Doctor Horrible" performance. As much as Dwayne Johnson is a mediocre actor, he actually has some skill, and is well-suited to playing Ham. Props to whoever suggested him. Saze is tough. I honestly think that Christian Bale or Idris Elba is the way to go, but I like some of the other suggestions as well. Let's all just be honest and admit that Benedict Cumberbatch would make the perfect Lord Ruler. I mean, he just completely and utterly dominated every single scene he had in ST 12, despite the messed-up plot and the fact that most of his scenes involved Zachary Quinto, who is a hell of an actor himself. That is the man to play TLR. Mad props to whoever first suggested Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Elend, he'd be damnation good in that role. I also like the idea of Jude Law as Dox. There are really only three options for Kelsier: Nathan Fillion, Tom Hiddleston, and maybe John Barrowman. Nobody else really has the grinning, madly happy faux-youth that Kelsier needs. EDIT:...and again, something is wrong with the paragraph breaks. Weird.

So I was reading Words of Radiance again, and I realized...that Nalan'Elin/Darkness is kind of a perversion of justice at this point. He's twisting the code that he himself used to uphold to suit his own ends, he brought Szeth back from the dead, which I personally feel is outright evil because there is NO justification for forcing someone to endure that degree of mental torment, and now he just handed a mentally-unstable killing machine the single most dangerous weapon in the Cosmere. Even if Szeth can't draw Nightblood, due to its Breath-burning requirement*, it's still a devastating weapon; anyone who doesn't meet Nightblood's standards is basically dead on proximity. I cannot see any rational reason for giving a weapon like that, that also speaks to people telepathically, to a man who is rapidly going completely insane from the screams of those he has killed. And then telling him to go get revenge by killing the people who sent him out to be Truthless. Seems like tempting Odium, there. From what we've seen of Nalan and other potential Heralds, I find it likely that they are now...some sort of perversions, psychologically speaking, of the men and women they once were, using their rationale of preventing the apocalypse to do things the unethical way, and to do things that are directly opposite their original purpose. And besides, they are mostly human; thousands of years of torture coupled with running away from a critical task like that of the Heralds could break anyone. Also, how the heck did Nalan get his hands on Nightblood? Something like that doesn't seem right. Based on Vasher's interlude, I feel that he did NOT give that sword up willingly, which means that Nalan is doing things that are perhaps less than ethical in pursuit of his plan to stop Odium's rise. In a nutshell, I interpreted Nalan's scenes as showing a broken man, desperate to avoid a world-shattering onslaught of pure malice, believing that the ends justify the means. And Brandon seems to have indicated that Honor is all about the ends NOT justifying the means. Which means that Nalan's tactics may actually give Odium an opening. Anyway, this theory is probably nuts, but does anyone have any thoughts? *And I think it likely that Nightblood will be able to feed on Stormlight, given that Breath and Stormlight are both manifestations of Investiture (magical "fuel"?) that can be carried by humans and pushed into inanimate objects. I'll bet that the systems are compatible like that, given the nature of Shards. EDIT: Well, my paragraph breaks are broken, not sure why... EDIT 2: Guess that fixed them...

Still worth it, IMHO, if I can donate infinite organs...That's a huge benefit to the world. Does gold Compounding mean that bits of your body that are removed disappear, or what? I think we need a Word of Brandon on this. Gold healing seems to work like Wolverine's healing powers, but we don't explicitly see little bits of Miles everywhere in Alloy of Law after his little explosive stunt.

Which Shardworld would you most like to live on?
GroundPetrel replied to TheShogun's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'd be born on Ashyn, so that my Tourette's Syndrome would give me super-healing or super-speed or something as well as annoying spasms, and I'd live on Sel under King Raoden's rule, and I'd work on Roshar. Granted, it's quite a commute, but it's definitely worth it. -
(responding to bolded text): What if that was up-and-down Roshar? Or only a fraction of the way across it? I need to go find that quote and its context. Anyway, I got the impression that Roshar is both larger and less dense than Earth, possibly with slightly less atmospheric pressure. That would explain the gravity, at least. I can tell I'm going to be spending a lot of time on the SA subforums. Sel, Scadrial, and Nalthis are Earth-like enough to set aside, but the Rosharan system is AWESOME.
-
Dude. You just broke my MIND. Double gold, with upgrades like that... That's invincible right there. But it'd probably act as a whole-body Hemalurgic spike as soon as you killed someone... Oh, MAN. Mind=BROKEN.
-
Rosharan days must be pretty short, then. And given the size of the maps we see...it looks like it's also larger but less dense than Earth. What a planet. I'd DEFINITELY like living there.

Point. So you carry extra metalminds, and make them sharp enough to cut away your flesh. Or just stick steel blades through your arms. It's a cool, terrifying effect, and with double gold... Yeah. That's pretty damnation good. If I'm allowed an OP power choice, I choose full Mistborn, full Ferruchemist. Just like TLR.
-
Thank you! I finally figured it out relatively easily after I got 6 (felt pretty damnation stupid, let me tell you...). Then I nearly died of concentrated awesome. Brandon will definitely give me a very fun heart attack with his books one of these days. Can't wait for Words of Radiance...

Top 3 of each: Best overall: Kaladin, Dalinar, Sadeas. Most fun: Navani, Renarin, Hoid. Best villain, deuteragonist, or antihero: Taravangian, Sadeas, Amaram. Most badass: Szeth, Kaladin, Dalinar. Most attractive (from my SWM POV): Navani, Jasnah, Shallan. I like smart women with attitude. Most interesting: Eshonai, Szeth, Renarin. Coolest: Navani, Kaladin, Szeth. Makes me root for them the most: Renarin, Kaladin, Dalinar. That ought to do it. I think Kaladin wins best overall.

Point. But if you're smart, and you're careful to ALWAYS have a backup, then you're basically invincible. Swallow some knives, then dig them out of your body if you need 'em. Keep multiple sticks of dynamite in waterproof casings inside your arms or behind your ribs. These and others are cool stunts that an Augur/Bloodmaker could do. The trick is having a backup and contingency for everything.

Terris: Wrought of Copper and Mistborn film rights lapse
GroundPetrel commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
Don't let JJ Abrams get his hands on Mistborn. He's an egotist who will insist on doing it HIS way, and screw canon. A JJ Abrams Mistborn movie will involve much violent explosions, lens flares, shaky camera, and plot holes. My advice is, get Joss Whedon. He's hot stuff right now, but he's got the same storytelling style as Brandon has, and his action scenes play out a lot like Brandon's. They'd work really well together.- 9 comments
