  1. Also regarding frost formation, I think we should remember that this IS a fantasy world where magic is real. Some things just can't be explained by known laws of thermodynamics.
  2. Beautiful theory, but let me be devil's advocate. You all are forgetting one thing, different humans (or creatures) can use stormlight to different efficacy, owing to different stages in their bond to their sprens, or the method allowing them to access surges. So I think instead of acting like O2 & binding to Hb, the method of access to surge creates some substance that binds stormlight. Imagine a drug binding to plasma proteins or lipids in the body. I haven't fine tuned this theory & I'm not sure how this could fit with better reflexes and all, so discuss. (Maybe the method of access to surge determines Hb saturation like 2,3 - BPG does it in us mere mortals.)
  3. WoK had lots of subtly hidden clues that I found on rereads, the more I read, the more the clues became clearer. Till now I've read WoR 3 times, I haven't yet come across clues that were very subtle. Whatever foreshadowing was in it, it was very clear that it was a clue to be cracked like code in chapter 84. My question is, has someone yet found any very subtle clues? Like, say, in WoK there was reference regarding Shallan possessing shardblade, or regarding colour a/w Kalladin's order, or in the vision where we found so much about KR, their powers & so many other clues. I feel WoR is so much more simplistically written, I can't muster any more enthusiasm to reread like I did for WoK. What do you all think?
  4. I think this love triangle is going to be more like AoL than traditional like say twilight.
  5. Agree with p4thf1nd3r, also correct me if I'm wrong but don't we have WoB that in a fight between Kaladin & Kelsier, Kelsier would win?
  6. I think he'll get there too, after all, though he was a good author initially, he really matured only after completing WoT, which has, what you've gotta admit, a world as complex & wonderfully developed as (if not more than) tSA. Sanderson's best days are still ahead, he's only going to get better.
  7. @OP, you, like me, are probably a fan of what's called heroic fantasy novel. Brandon excels at this genre. I too didn't like The Black Company by Cook or Prince of Nothing or Malazan series or The Broken Empire by Lawrence because they're too dark for my taste (they're classified as dark fantasy). As many have suggested, I think Blood Song by Ryan Anthony is a perfect novel for you. It doesn't have much in the sense of magic like Brandon's books have, but it has superb plot and narrative, the best debut novel I've read after Kingkiller debut novel. You'll get a list of good heroic fantasy novels if you google it, but here's a site I usually lurk on to get good reviews about debut fantasy series/authors, you can try that one - fantasybookcritic.blogspot.com.
  8. Also it's possible that Jezrien was king of all heralds in the beginning but now Nalan simply doesn't accept his authority. Remember how Darkness, at the end of Lift interlude, makes derogatory comments about king of heralds (i.e. assuming Darkness is in fact Nalan, which is hypothesized but far from official).
  9. Hi Peter, I'm from India & I already have the ebook from google play, but I wanted a hard copy. The thing is flipkart has two hard cover editions, one from Tor & other from Gollancz (both are said to be imported). My question is, is there any other difference between the two apart from the front cover? (say for e.g illustrations or art work inside.) edit: how long till paperback? I have a WoK paperback (Tor published), would rather wait for WoR paperback too if it comes out in a month or so.
  10. In chapter 68, when Kaladin tells Syl that he's no Knight, that he's broken, she replies that they all were broken. Is this something significant like snapping being a prerequisite for being a mistborn or a misting? All KR (or even potential ones like Lift or Ylm) we've seen so far have had a troubled past (except may be Renarin, about whom we don't know much, & Adolin who we saw was at the edge of breaking down near end of WoR).
  11. We don't much know how fast stormlight heals the wound. Lopen's arm's regrowing seems pretty fast. Besides Shallan said she would heal without scar a wound of spear through stomach. Granted in Jasnah's case it's through heart, but she's still a lot more experienced at this than Shallan. Thinking of Wolverine anyone else?
  12. Chapter 87. It has quite a few 'the' used for Lopen. Isn't Lopen his name & so should not be given an article? And if it's a title shouldn't 'the' be used everytime? I see both uses in the book. (ebook by the way.)
  13. I don't think being present at specific time & place is a requirement in case of the Everstorm, otherwise there would be no panic as obviously during the Everstorm everyone incl parshmen would be taking shelter like they do during highstorm. Don't know how Brandon is going to transform parshmen while preserving rebel parshendi, cause obviously if one group can be saved from being transformed so can be other.
  14. Also in chapter 75 (ebook), Pattern says,'.....' then 'the majorities of several spren peoples were all bonded'. This sentence feels just wrong. English is not my primary language so I could be wrong, but I think it should be majority not majorities, then there was no need to use several after using majority, no need to use spren people, just spren would have been enough, and then if it is used at all, 'people' not 'peoples'.
  15. Where does Thaidakar fit into all of this?
  16. One problem with honorblades not being able to bond - Nalan says to Szeth in chapter 88 that 'Your bond to your Blade severed'. Also if there's no bond between the honorblade & the user, how is the user to call it to him from its invisible state? The unbound blade won't disappear if during a duel it's knocked out of the hand since it won't have bond through which user can give instructions & his opponent will also be able to use it. So I think the previously given information about honorblades is either a mistake, or it wasn't reported correctly word to word from Brandon, or Brandon changed his mind later on. Can anyone from his team confirm this?
  17. @Vortaan, requirement of further oaths differs from order to order. Shallan was able to summon Blade after just 1st oath, & no other foreshadowing by Brandon, so can't really say for sure how Shardplates did come to be about.
  18. Sorry, a mistake by me getting ahead of myself.
  19. I don't want to be a mood-spoiler on this glorious day when I started reading WoR, but here's I'm going to make a list of typos as I go on reading each chapter. Here's the 1st I found in chapter 5. The crier, at the start of chapter says the proclamation - 'Toward' victory and, at long last, vengeance, but when she reads it again on Kal's command, she reads it as - 'On' victory.... I realise this may not be a typos in case she's not really reading the proclamation but reciting them from memory, but still... I'll be adding more as (and if) I find any more while reading.
  20. I have a childish proof for this pairing. Jasnah & Kalladin are pronounced similar to Jasmine & Aladdin.Ha!

  22. Has anyone else noticed this? '"She has visited old magic,"they said, "She is blessed by our mother,"they said.' I think this lends credence to theory that Cultivation is Nightwatcher, since by WoB, spren are creations of Honor & Cultivation. The link here between mother of the sprens & old magic pretty much points towards Cultivation being Nightwatcher.
  23. I hope what I'm going to say doesn't offend anyone, least of all Brandon. I think WoR is going to be really awesome, but still I would like him to write long books in future only if he can maintain current quality of work. I don't want him to go the way of Robert Jordan did, i.e. the first 3-4 books of WoT were really really good, but the intensity waned off mid-series. I just hope doing various side projects keeps Brandon fresh. I want him to give his best even if it takes 3-4 yrs for the next book.(Now I really hope someone doesn't come hunting for my blood!)
  24. Hmm... Hadn't thought of that. Thanks Edit: Err.. But then is Dalinar wrong in saying that there were no fabrials in that time period?
