Quick Fix Game 14: Corruption in the Senate
Jo and the Bush replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The Turn 9 Writeup that was never Posted: Could one of the mods edit this into the correct post? Thank you very much. While the game is still fresh, does anyone else feel like they didn't get the writeup they deserved? Feel like they got shifted with their fate and want more? Tell me! Post here or drop me a PM, and I'll happily write more for you! Either your death, or you killing someone, or anything else that hasn't been covered but you want to see. Also, Links to docs have been added to the OP. The Dead Doc The Jail Doc The Corrupt Doc The Master Spreadsheet I am working on transcribing PM's, so that there will be a record of all the laughable shenanigans that happened behind the scenes. I will post a link to that once there's enough to justify it being there. Without further ado, The Gm's Post game thoughts! (Not the final thoughts, because I might say more if I think of a way to articulate some nagging thoughts I have.) Of the four games I've run, this was my favorite. It was the most balanced, and the least broken. I had a lot of fun running it, and From what I saw, people had a lot of fun playing or watching it. But it wasn't perfect. 1} If this game is to be rerun, the Governor needs to be changed. He's freaking OP. Once a confirmed senator became a Governor, he was nearly unkillable. The next iteration of this game needs to either remove the extra two votes, or the immunity. Or perhaps make the immunity have probabilities instead of certainties. Like, items have a 50% chance to fail against him, rather than 100%. 2} I've been waffling back and forth on the eliminator team's balance. Just two of them did really good without a group kill. They mad excellent use of their BoB's to use the lynch as a kill. Twice they nearly got everyone on the chopping block via ties. But, would they have been overpowered if all 5 of them had been active? I don't know. As it was, I think they should have started with more BoB's or Daggers. The vote to get your dagger rule really hurts the corrupt, but doesn't hurt the senators. I don't know. How would you guys have balanced the eliminators 3} Amanuensis the Anarchist. The jailbreak option was hidden in the mechanics since signups were posted, but originally, it didn't change alignment. Meta convinced me that it would be broken and needed to be changed, so working together, we came up with a Serial Killer esque role to throw a monkey wrench into the game. Amanuensis was given a police baton, which allowed him to make a kill every turn, as well as kill governors. I wouldn't change anything about this secret role at all. 4} Secret rules. There were several. The most common was smuggling. If you voted for yourself when you got arrested, you got to keep your items. there were a lot of BoB's and items in prison because of people being bribed to vote for themself. That rule was necessary so that prisoners could get dagers, drugs or Warrants, which would allow them to get the Jail key from any of the constables. The second was of course, the Constables. Why were they target able and lynch able? At first, they weren't. When the game started, you were only supposed to be able to target Heatherlocke, and only with a warrant. But as things developed, I went with what seemed funner, and what I thought the players wanted. Fully targetable spectators. Which was freaking hilarious. The third was of course, the Jailbreak. If you kill/drug/warrant a constable, you can break a player out of jail. But that player becomes the Anarchist who wants to kill or arrest everyone save himself and the constables. . . Amanuensis didn't want to win without his team though. Not what I would have done, but that's his choice. Which brings me to 5} I DO NOT MATTER. I mentioned in the Jail doc that I didn't want Downfall to happen. Amanuensis saw that, and apologized. I kind of got mad at him. These games are run for the players. You guys get to decide what happens. If the GM doesn't like it, the GM has to roll with it anyway. Don't be afraid to use the rules to go against the GM's wishes. You are the player. The GM wins no matter what. You can do what you want. If the GM doesn't like it, go tell her to write a fanfiction instead of running an RP. 6} Meta brought up the fact that I run these games fast and loose, with an emphasis on fun and exciting. I am willing to introduce new rules at any point in the game, as I did with jail visitation, if I think it sounds fun and balanced. My ultimate goal is for everyone to have fun, even if they lose. I'd rather have a fun loss than a boring victory. But, do you guys enjoy that style of GM'ing, or should I run the games more orderly next time? 7} For the next couple of games, everyone will spend day 1 trying to lynch the Gm or spectators, just to see if it's possible. It will be hilarious. 8} Just so you guys know, Unless stated otherwise, all my games will have secret rules. 9} Throughout the Docs, I've left a bunch of game ideas. Feel free to adopt them, change them, or run them. I make and run the games I really want to play, so It would excite me to no end if someone develops and runs a game I made. 10} This is kind of whiny, and dumb, but i want to say it for the other GM's like me. I got kind of depressed mid way through the game, because of my writeups. No one was saying anything about them. Sure I was getting upvotes, but no one signified that they actually enjoyed the, The first time someone said They liked a writeup, I was over the moon. There are lots of GM's who put a lot of effort into their writeups, and don't get thanked or complimented for it, and don't realize that people enjoy their work. I got plenty of thanks and compliments throughout the game, but still, please articulate your enjoyment of works that people have made for you. Speaking of works, seriously, are there any more writeups you want? I really want to keep writing for this time period.- 687 replies

Quick Fix Game 14: Corruption in the Senate
Jo and the Bush replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Turn : There is no Senate. “You have to stop them!” Patience held on to the former general’s shirt and shook him desperately. “Matthew will be avenged. I regret the loss of life. But this is the only way to ensure the complete purification of the senate.” “You’ve already cleansed the rusting senate! You’ve caught or killed all of us! Call him off!” “Have I?” Yosef turned, idling forcing Palpatine’s hands off his shirt. “There can’t have only been two of you.” “Alron murdered our allies. Michael, Chantelle and Luna. Than Cicero and I were caught.” He sank down, sitting at the small desk in Yosef’s cell. “I was willing to let you continue arresting innocents, because it was a small vengeance, but now, it will mean our deaths. Please Yosef, stop Biorney!” Yosef sighed, and shook his head. “Biorney is not loyal to me. I did not have enough time. It was all I could do to turn him against the senate and give him the idea of Downfall, before Alron released him. I succeeded in turning him too much.” There was a shouting from outside the cells. Yosef ignored it, but Patience stood up and ran from the room. The other arrested Senators were gathering at the gates of the cells. Cicero waved him over as he approached. “The constables are gone Palpatine.” “What?” Cicero gestured out at the empty hallway, where half a dozen Constables had been on guard. “Constable Clancy came and grabbed them all, then they left. We don’t know why.” Palpatine closed his eyes, and breathed in deeply. Once he had calmed down sufficiently, he opened his eyes and clapped once, to get everyone’s attention. “Ladies and Gentleman! Downfall procedure is in effect! The constables are gone, and I don’t know what will happen. I recommend you prepare to defend yourselves though. Nothing good can follow this.” Constable-General Wilson strode through the halls towards the Senate Hall, seething at the stupidity of it all. She was quite tempted to simply have her four bodyguards arrest the last three senators and be done with it. It was unfortunate that the laws denied her that pleasure. She almost envied Heatherlocke and Yosef. They had both been willing to compromise the laws in favor of doing what they thought was right. But then, hadn’t that been what had gotten them in this mess in the first place? There was a wet thud from behind her, and something warm and wet hit her back. She whirled around fast enough to see a senator slam a constable baton into the side of Constable Wes’s head, dropping him next to Constable Aaron’s body. She unhooked her baton from her belt and stepped back, allowing Constables Drake and Rene to step forward in front of her. “I’m dearly sorry about this Constables, but I left my matchbook and home, and need a spark. You understand, don’t you?” Rene stepped forward, her baton held in a defensive position. “Senator Sanderson, stand down, or we will bring you down forcibly.” Sanderson grinned, tilting his head to one side, and gestured them forward with his baton. Rene swung low, Drake high, both aiming to cripple or kill him. Sanderson jumped backwards, dodging both blows, then dived forward as the two constable swung again. He rolled under their their twin blows, and swept his baton upwards into Drake’s chin as he stood. Drake’s head snapped upward, his whole body following it a foot into the air before he smashed down onto the hallway. Rene swore, but spun on his heel and slammed the baton towards Sanderson’s back. The man dodged sideways with inhuman agility, grabbing the baton with one hand and yanking it forward, driving Rene into Wilson. Both of them fell backwards, Wilson’s head cracking against the floor. Wilson groaned, and shoved him off her before rolling to one side, trying to shake the dizziness away. She rubbed her eyes as she scooted away from where she knew the Senator to be. When she opened them she saw Senator Sanderson drive the baton into Rene’s skull, crushing it like a watermelon. “That really was a waste of Constables. As I understand it, Just removing a third Constable-General in the same as is enough to put Downfall into effect.” Sanderson smirked as he knelt down and wiped the blood from his baton on Rene’s mostly clean uniform. He grabbed the man’s baton as he stood. Wilson slowly got to her feet, gripping her one baton tightly. “Why, Biorney?” “The senate is corrupt.” He raised a hand to forestall her objections. “And I don’t mean the senators who killed the Governor. The entire body is corrupt!” “We can fix it without killing everyone!” He stepped forward, and threw one of his batons overhand. It whistled through the air and smashed into her chest, driving the air from her lungs. She fell backwards, dropping her baton. “This society was built on the blood and fire of the Survivor. It will be rebuilt on the blood and fire of the Martyr.” He crouched before her, grabbing her by the collar and lifter her to eye level. “Your death will be the spark I need to incite the people to destruction. I thank you for that, Constable Wilson. May your repose be peaceful.” He drew back his baton once more, and swung one last time. Rod and Abban stood tall, glaring down at Senator Monec. “We know it’s you Monec. We’ve both proven our innocence to each other. You don’t have a chance.” Monec sighed. “Against two corrupt senators? You’re right. I don’t have a chance, you win.” Rod grinned, and pointed down at him. “Constables! Take him away.” Silence. Monec raised an eyebrow, then glanced to the side. Rod and Abban followed his gaze, to where nearly a dozen senators were in a huddle, whispering frantically. “Constables?” The huddle of constables broke up, and they all ran out one of the side doors. One stopped and turned back to them. “Ya’ll might want to be careful. Maybe head on down to the holding cell before Clancy finished his speech.” He turned and followed the others. Rod turned to his fellows. “Speech?” “The Senate of Elendel has proven it’s corruption! Each and everyone of them have proven their contempt for the laws set down by the Lord Mistborn and Harmony in their pursuit of Power! They have murdered, bribed, stolen and poisoned their way to power, and we will not let it stand!” Newly minted Constable-General Clancy of the First Octant stood on the steps of the Senate building, backed by the other seven generals. All stood stone faced, preparing themselves for a procedure that had been set down by the lord Mistborn himself. “The Lord Mistborn decreed that the people should have the power to choose their own government, as well as end it as he himself did! Now is the time! We the people must make our will known! The liars and corrupt of this government must be put to the torch, and destroyed as the Lord Tyrant was in ages past!” The people, gathered quickly by the other precinct offices, roared their approval. “Go! Brothers and Sister in arms! Let the fires of justice cleanse this city!” The crowd surged forward, wielding torches and tools with equal skill. They streamed through the doorways and into the building, lighting every piece of cloth or wood within reach. The flames grew hotter, until even stone burst with heat. The constables stood vigil outside the building, making sure no senators escaped the carnage. 14 corpses, charred almost beyond recognition, were dragged from the building once the flames subsided. The Corruption in the Senate had been purged. Literally everyone died! The Game is a draw! No one won! Amanuensis was a Senator turned Anarchist! Stink, Bugsby and Mark were Senators! Wilson was a Constable of the Law! Complete Player List: The Dead Doc The Jail Doc The Corrupt Doc The Master Spreadsheet Thank you everyone for playing!- 687 replies

Quick Fix Game 14: Corruption in the Senate

Turn 12: Fear in the Senate: “Mind if we talk?” Patience glanced away from his book to see the speaker. He set the book on the floor, and sat upright on the cot he had been provided. “What do you want Yosef?” Yosef leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed and expressionless. “I want to know what you’re planning.” “Funny, I could ask you the same thing.” Yosef raised one eyebrow, but otherwise made no response. Patience gestured to the small desk and chair that came with each cell. “Please, sit. We have much to discuss, both about my hopes for the future, and your plans for vengeance.” Yosef pulled the chair away from the desk, and sat down carefully. “You first Patience. What do you have planned?” “Patience my dear Constable, I have patience planned. All I have to do now is wait, and I’ll be released very soon.” “You think the Constable-General will just let you go free, after you admitted to killing Machmuller?” “He’s open to bribes.” Yosef smirked. “No, she isn’t. Out of curiousity, what was your plan to deal with me?” Palpatine squinted hard at the man. “What do you mean she?” “Answer my question, and I’ll answer yours.” He continued to stare, but answered hesitantly, still thinking about what had been said. “We didn’t need one. Once we had won, you would obey us. Even now, you won’t disobey the law to avenge your friend.” “Wouldn’t I?” “Actually, you might have. But it hardly matters now. We’ve won. Now, what did you mean by she?” Yosef’s mouth turned upward just slightly. “Let me answer your questions with one of my own. You only think you’ve won because you believe the senators can’t win. Am I right?” “Well, yes. If they lose, we win.” “Now see, that’s where you’re wrong Patience. Some of them think like that, but others are more, vengeful. If they lose, you lose to. You get me?” “What do you have planned Yosef?” “You know what Downfall Procedure is of course.” “If the Constables take too many casualties, they pull out of an area, regroup and replan. It usually ends in the arrest or death of every non constable involved. Why?” “At least one other senator knows that as well.” “What do you have planned old man?” “Sometimes, sacrifices must be made. Wilson will make a good Constable-General, don’t you think? However temporary the position will end up being..” Constable-General Heatherlocke’s foot hurt, and the wall was too blame. So he kicked it again. It still hurt. “Rusting, alloyed, impure, useless hunk of Talc!” He leaned backwards, pressing his back against the wall, then, looking around furtively, pulled out his new flask. He took a swig, and sighed as the pain in his toe began to recede. “Tsk, tsk, Constable. Officers on duty aren’t supposed to drink.” Heatherlocke jerked back and forth, trying to see who had spoken. “Who’s there?” “A concerned party, who’s tired of the corruption in this senate.” Heatherlocke slowly turned in a circle, surveying the entire hall. It was empty. “Well, I’m not a senator, so why does it matter?” There were only a few places someone could hide. The most likely one looked to be a small table, with a tablecloth hiding it’s legs. “I am a kind of Survivor. The first Survivor brought down the government of Luthadel. He saw the corruption, the Wrongness, of the city, and he saved it.” “Yeah yeah, we all know who what old Hathsin did.” The constable took a few quiet steps, grabbed the table’s edge, and flipped it over, revealing nothing. “I always prefered the second Survivor. The Survivor of the Flames. He saw the corruption, and he burned it out. Fire is a cleansing force. Unfortunately, I can’t start a fire here. Too many constables I’m afraid.” “Where are you?” He unhooked his baton from his belt, feeling more secure with it in his hands as he took more careful steps down the hallway. “But then, I remembered Downfall. I realized, I didn’t need to set the fire. I could cleanse the corruption by spreading it until the people knew of it. They would set the fire for me. But fire needs two things, fuel and a spark.” The hair on the back of Heatherlock’s neck prickled, and he looked up. Everything went brown as a shoe smashed into his face from above. He slammed into the floor and gasped as he head cracked against the hard wood. He groaned as his baton was pulled from his grasp. “You will be my fuel Heatherlocke. You will be the tinder on which the spark turns to flame.” Crack! Heatherlocke screamed as the baton broke his arm. He rolled desperately, but failed to avoid the next strike. Crack! His kneecap screamed at him on agony. “We may all lose, but the people will win, and that is worth it all in the end. Goodbye Heatherlocke.” The baton smashed into the back of his head, and everything went black. Boom! The Senators all jumped out of their seats as The doors were slammed open, and Constable Wilson strode in, flanked by four others with Batons out. Governor Cicero, exhaled in relief, then smoothed his robes. “Constable Wilson, may I ask why—” “You may not.” She snapped. “Constable-General Heatherlocke has just been murdered, and I have to figure out which of you did this. So, no one say anything, everyone just point and who you think is corrupt, so I can get back to my work. Cicero bit his lip, then pointed at Miotes. Miotes, Rod, Declan and Abban pointed back at him. Wilson nodded once. “Right. Another Governor gets arrested. This is just great. Downfall will be happening any day now.” She pointed at him with her baton, and two constables peeled off the wall and approached him. “Wait, I deserve a chance to speak in my defense! You can’t just, don’t walk out while I’m talking!” The doors slammed shut behind Wilson and her guards as she left without a word. Cicero looked out at the three grinning senators and scowled. “You all just wait, I’ll have my, my. . .” He frowned and looked around. “Where is Declan?” The three senators glanced at each other, then Miotes stumbled away from them and pointed at the bloody corpse of Declan Tyndell, lying flat under his desk with a dagger sticking out of his chest. “That doesn’t bode well.” Orlok’Tsubodai was a Corrupt Senator and Governor! You may now elect a new Governor! Kynedath was killed! Constable-General Heatherlocke was killed! YOU MAY NO LONGER BUY ITEMS FROM THE CONSTABLES.
