I really like the idea that the anagram is out of all three words "Nonsense. Balderdash. Figgldygrak.", and not just "Figgldygrak". Maybe someone can run a program to test out letters in all three words? Would have to include all english words as well as cosmere words (at least those used in tWoK).

I don't know which order, but I'm of the mind that just because we haven't seen the Lopen's spren yet does not mean the Lopen does not have one. It would be awesome if the Lopen was indeed a Radiant

Too much to read, too lazy, so I just agreed with everyone else and up-voted you . Good post !

LOL I for one could not resist the tempatation. I'm not sure whether I'm happy or sad about it ... I don't regret it though, I've said it before and I'll say it again, even if you know where the story is going I still enjoy reading how it progresses and getting the full story.

Although common consensus is Kaladin talking to Syl, I'm going to say it is one of Sadeas' associates talking to Sadeas, concerning the fact that Sadeas got a spren and can surgebind. Then, in one of the climaxes, Kaladin has to take Sadeas down, cause he's acting like a fool and not adhereing to the ideals. Just going out on a limb

My gut reaction was Shallan, but I agree that Eshonai makes a lot more sense. The word choices fit her better, I think.

Disagree with not allowing whole book content before actual release date. This is a spoiler forum; agree, though, with the suggestion about requiring something like *whole book* in the title, or specific pinned threads for each group of 10 chapters like was also mentioned above.

Will you skip ahead in Words of Radiance?
ShadowsFell replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
My wife would agree with you, but I've always maintained that the Journey is more important than the Destination (see what I did there lol?). So I don't mind skipping to the end, cause I love seeing how it gets there. -
Thanks for the honest discussion, I appreciate it. Good points, I completely agree that they are most likely talking about KR the entire time, it makes the most sense. My main sticking point is that we don't have enough information that they were ever divided enough to warrant telling someone to unite them, unless I'm missing something (probably the case lol). I'm curious to see how it plays out, because I'm sure we'll get much more information in WoR on this particular issue.

Thats cool, thanks for clarifying! I really need to get me a hard copy of WoK to go with my eBook ... I find myself missing those little nuances of the hard covers more and more....
-
I see what you're saying, but I still disagree. I think there are many thoughts in that paragraph, and not all of them necessarily need to be talking about the KR. As in: Just some thoughts. Everyone agreeing is no fun

Sorry, I must be blind ... where exactly in the image is the glyph everyone is referring to? I'm stoked for the book though, can't get enough of Roshar....

Regarding #1: I think the Almighty/Honor was referring to uniting humanity/people/nations, to provide a unified front. The darkeyed/lighteyed thing wasn't applicable at that time, because remember the visions were a recording from a long time ago. I don't think the idea of uniting the KR fits, though, because althought he KR didn't always agree, they were still together, unlike the nations. Regarding #2: Good points, and very viable ... concur .

Noted, thanks for the correction, apparently my information source was incorrect or (more likely) I was misremembering. Good thing its a moot point, since my updated theory doesn't rely on that .

You know what, I noticed that point too and I honestly don't know. I do know that I'm really curious to find out. Maybe its possible he gave the Shardplate to someone else, because he felt too guilty keeping both Plate and Blade? Dunno.

LOL this. You said it much clearer than I did -
Thanks for the feedback! Some very good points were made, especially considering the similarity between Ruin and Desolation ... it does make sense that Desolation as a Shard would be too similar to what Ruin was. It was also mentioned that there are only three Shards on Roshar, namely Honor, Cultivation, and Odium. @The Only Joe, thanks for that! Do you, or anyone else, have a direct link for Brandon saying Odium will not combine with other shards? Excellent point, though, that he had the chance when he splintered Devotion and Domination. Its possible, though, that he chose not to join with them because it may have altered his personality in ways he did not want. I will point out, as well, that there is a currently unamed shard on Taldain, a planet in Greater Roshar system: Unknown (Bavadin's Shard), who was mentioned in The Letter. I think it is possible that this shard could be periodically working with Odium to cause havoc. **************************** So ... all that being said, I'm going to adjust my theory a bit. I got to thinking about what Desolation really means, as a word, and Odium. Odium, as already stated, is "general or widespread hatred or disgust directed toward someone as a result of their actions" (Google "define odium"). Desolation is defined as "a state of complete emptiness or destruction" (Google "define desolation"). I now posit that Desolation is the result of a Roshar equivalent of a World War, caused by hate (Odium) between Rosharian peoples. When "Desolation is coming" is mentioned, I take it now to mean "world war causing causualties bordering on extermination is coming". By extension, "True Desolation" could mean absolute destruction of the sort where EVERYONE dies. This would fit with Dalinar's vision of an Everstorm devouring everything, with everyone dead. This World War type of concept would fit, I think, with the Recreance. What if, as was mentioned elsewhere, the "good guys" Surgebinding and bonding with "Good spren" leads to the "other side" (Voidbringers) upping their game, which causes more Surgebinding and bonding, which causes the other side upping their game more.... More specifically, what if for every Knight Radiant-type person bonded to a spren, the "bad spren" increase in numbers or strenght? For example, if Syl gets stronger, maybe there is an equivalent buildup on the other side to equal it out (i.e., red-eyed spren that were mentioned in the flashbacks). It would fit with Darkness/Nalan killing Surgebinders/KR-potentials as a way to prevent Desolation. So, the Recreance could be the KR breaking the bond and walking a way as a means of forcibly lessening the "good spren" in the world to cause a drop in "bad spren", to prevent or delay another Desolation. Maybe we need a little bit of Harmony to balance all the hate . Sorry it was so long or if it was posted elsewhere, hopefully it makes sense. So, in summary: -- Desolation = mass death / wasteland / post-World War type conflict -- True Desolation = complete, mutual genocide of all peoples -- Increase of "good" Surgebinders = Increase of red-eyed spren and Voidbringers -- Recreance = KR way of sacrificing their Spren in order to force a rebalancing and reduction of red-eyed / bad spren

We Need to Check Tor Next Tuesday 02/04/2014

Calling that some of the glimpses will be Ideals. -
I really like your theory. I personally think that Hoid was referring to the fact that Taln showed up too late, but that's a very valid interpretation -- it very well could be an imposter that showed up, and thats what Hoid is referring to. I wonder what motive he would have though, for espousing the coming Desolation if he was a Ghostblood or from some other organization, instead of Taln?

Will you skip ahead in Words of Radiance?
ShadowsFell replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I said that I will skip ahead to the next Kaladin chapter, but honestly I'll probably skim the other chapters that were skipped just to see their main character. No, you know what, I'll probably just read the chapters that were skipped ... while doing selective rereads of WoK, I've noticed the chapters are pretty interrelated, and I don't want to miss anything important. For example, when rereading just the Kaladin chapters, it definitely calls attention to the fact that I was missing important subjects that were presented in the Dalinary chapters. So, I'll go change my vote now . -
I wonder if one of the important Shards on Roshar might actually be named Desolation, instead of, or in addition to, Odium. In the preview chapters for WoR, there are several instances where characters (mainly Darkness) refers to Desolation coming. Not "a" desolation, not "the" desolation, but Desolation, as in a proper-noun type entity. So, maybe Odium has evolved to Desolation, ala Harmony=Ruin+Preservation? Or Desolation is another Shard in the Greater Roshar area, coming to team-up? Curious as to what everyone's thoughts are. ***** EDIT: Thanks for the feedback! I posted below (http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5897-odium-or-desolation/#entry94384) with an updated theory, and updated post title from "Odium or Desolation?" to "Odium, Desolation, and Recreance"

Kaladin able to nullify Szeth's Lashings?
ShadowsFell replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm particularly interested, though, if Szeth's lashings can affect Kaladin. We already know that his own full lashings do not, during the sparing sequence in ch12, although I'm not sure if that's because they are his or because him having invested Stormlight nullifies it in some way.- 11 replies
