  1. I suppose that could be possible I haven't read up on that specific theory, but it would make sense for the Herald's to go to Braize while waiting for the next desolation as odium would be the one to torture and break them. However, when odium first came to Roshar I would think he'd have been stronger than either cultivation or honor because they gave away some of their essence to create sentient life, but not both. For honor to leave Roshar and go searching for assistance on other shard worlds prior to odium's arrival would mean leaving cultivation open to attack by odium. I'll admit it's possible this occurred before odium arrived, especially if cultivation foresaw it, but regardlessI don't think honor would leave a civilization he created in the hands of other shardworld people. I'd really appreciate a link to that theory. Getting away from the nature of Shards for a little bit, at the end of WoR when Dalinar is talking to the storm father, the storm father says the everstorm will change all of the 'old people' with its coming. A reference to the parshmen, who will be compulsed by odium's void spren to become voidbringers. This makes me wonder why the parshmen are the 'old people,' and then who are the new people? I wonder if odium had a part in the creation of the peoples currently on Roshar, and if earlier peoples, contemporary to the heralds' taking up the honorblades and the oathpact, were mutated into something else by odium's influence or as part of the oathpact that binds him. I'd definitely like to ask Brandon if the parshmen existed before the coming of odium and the oathpact.
  2. Hey all, its been awhile since I've lurked on these forums, but I had a thought about civilization pre-odium on Roshar. I think it obvious that the heralds came from a Roshar population that predates odium's arrival on the planet and thus too the desolations. Meaning the heralds likely have a slightly different genetic and spiritual make up from the current inhabitants of Roshar. What I'd like to see discussed is how the current populations differ from the heralds: are the heralds beings created solely from honor an cultivation, and immune to influences like the thrill? are the heralds immortal because of residual after effects of the oath pact. spren are shattered pieces of honor, that emulate the honorblades and make up a newer magic system on Roshar. Do the heralds know of older magic that came exclusively from cultivation and/or honor, and if so does this constitute the 'old magic' of the night watcher? I'd like to hear what you guys think about these topics, or if a similar thread exists I'd love links
  3. also could the code be related to the calendar system? and maybe broken down phonetically from there?
  4. what about the sequence 10111? This sequence is repeated often, but maybe it's nothing, just thought I'd contribute something that may get someone else a thinking.
  5. So this is a comment I made in another thread, but I was really excited about it and wanted to share my theory and see how well it stands. I think renarin is the traitor from the diagram (epigraph from chapter 86) and his spren is Moelach. Why do I think this? Starting assumptions: Renarin has precognition, a know trait of voidbringers. Renarin has his blood sickness, described as some kind of epilepsy. Moelach is a powerful voidspren, specifically with precognition, and taints a body as it breaks apart from the mind (chapter 82, epigraph). These assumptions have led me to the conclusion that renarin may unwittingly be tainted by void spren, and mistakes his abilities for a manifestation of KR power. Also can't find page, Taravangian says something about Moelach leaving his area of operations, causing death rattles to become more rare. Discuss!

  7. I think your focus for this point is to narrow. The act may have been dishonorable, and perhaps even underhanded, but on the larger scale of things the parshendi see themselves as sacrificing their whole population for the greater good. One of the tenants of honor is that to sacrifice one innocent for the lives of ten others is not honorable, but the parshendi remove a threat to the greater good, not an innocent, and then choose to sacrifice themselves to assure the success of the greater good, which I believe is all of roshar when looking from their perspective.
  8. Dude, maybe I'm an old fart, but who would ever read a Brandon Sanderson work end first then story? That's just a cardinal sin I would think.
  9. I HAVE A PLAN FOR WAITING IT OUT!!!!! Just play magic the gathering and believe that the equipment you're attaching is shardplate, shardblade, Nahel bonds, and the colors are shards. White=Preservation Black=Ruin Blue=Honor Green=Cultivation Red=Odium Red/White=Dominion Blue/White=Devotion Multicolor (Red,Green,Blue)/Colorless=Endowment Use it as a poor filling the void substitute
  10. Still points for noticing the colors of the moon
  11. As a point of information, there is a Forrest on the edge of the shattered plains. I believe it was when we first saw Dalinar and Sadeas working together to coerce another highprince into paying for the king's soulcasters for wood. They hinted that the tariffs for logging from the Forest would get prohibitive. I think this could suggest there are Forests in roshar, however they are probably much more adapted to high storms than our trees would be. I also vaguely recall a reference to trees lying down, and having a trunk like a hinge that allowed them to fold over.
  12. I don't think the spren would have been as offended by the breaking of the oathpact, as much as by the recreance. The oathpact was, I'm speculating here, only between honor , odium and the heralds; the knight Radiants were something else entirely. When the heralds abandoned the oathpact, there was no one there to really point out and say: hey you! This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules where are you going! The oathpact also wasn't entirely abandoned as talon remains bound to his blade and tortured in damnation. Whereas the Radiants, assumably, each had a spren bonded with them, and then they abandoned their positions of power and leadership, allowing their special weapons to be taken and used by less worthy hands. Here we have humans betraying bonded spren and throwing away their oaths to protect humanity.
  13. Oh and I think bond smith is dalinar
  14. I wondered about this too, but my conclusion was that Rysn could be the explorer, and I thought Jasnah or Eshonai a better fit. And of those two Eshonai. Rysn isnt exploring, or fascinated with exploration as a character (at least that we've seen so far) she is training to become a master merchant and do her babsk proud. Her want to visit famous and exotic places of roshar was founded on visiting great tourist spots, places of great fame or comforts, but thoroughly we'll known. It doesn't seem to me that she has a natural want for exploration, but a naive want for wealth and prestige associated with exotic ports. However her interlude from WoR shows her growing up a bit. Jasnah clearly wishes to know the. Truth of things, and leads her to a life of scholarly exploration, however it seems a stretch even to myself. Eshonai's memories of first leaving her tribe and striking out into lands beyond the shattered plains, along with her desire to leave her position of authority and go explore Roshar and it's curious one-form humans speaks to me that from what we know she has the strongest case for being the explorer. I also think the discovery of storm for will lead to some talks between Eshonai and the Alethi, hopefully Dalinar. But that's mostly hopes and speculation This was my thoughts on the explorer from that thread I posted in my previous comment, I haven't quite figured out hoe to do the fancy quote box yet
  15. You might find this page useful http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5110-words-of-radiance-back-cover-questions/
  16. I would think there is also a standby mode that we haven't yet seen. As Dalinar goes to confront Sadeas after his betrayal on the tower, Dalinar tells adolin to keep his blade as mist should the event arise that adolin needs it to help fight their way out of Sadeas' camp. This could have been just a phrase meant to say, be ready for anything, but it does make me wonder if there is a way to keep your shard blade on standby.
  17. Gold gold twin born, because miles was best character
  18. So I was rereading Warbreaker a little while ago and I noticed that 'shash' was the first word Siri taught the god king, or the first letter. (Pg 373, end of chapter twenty) Then I remembered Kaladin had the 'shash' glyph marked into his head because he was a dangerous slave. You see where I'm going with this? I feel that whenever I see a coincidence crop up in Brandon's writing it is more than just coincidence. It Also makes me think there is a greater language, or writing system that is shared through the cosmere that may be descendant from the times of Adonalsium's shattering. My gut tells me to take another look at elantris and mistborn too, but I wanted to get this theory out while I was thinking about it.
  19. There could be something to finding the parshendi themselves that started the rattles. The parshendi may have greater investiture from odium and so once they were discovered odium began the process for bringing about the next desolation and the spren reacted. ALSO this is all wild speculation. However I believe the death rattles may be something of cultivation as she has "a better knack" (super paraphrasing) for divining the future than honor, tanavast, does.
  20. I had thought from dalinar's chapter excerpt that was read by Brandon, that we saw the start of the battle, which would result in the shattered plains, and the building he saw there was what existed and then became Eshonai's hideout ruins. On top of that I thought that the place the heralds met in the WoK prologue was the tower on the shattered plains, hinting that the destroyed nature of the shattered plains was because of the most recent desolation, desolating the landscape which was once purelake-like in Dalinar's WoR vision excerpt. I think the excerpts from WoR I'm referring to can be found here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/3710-words-of-radiance-readings/
  21. I had a thought as I was reading some speculations on honorblades here: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4883-new-info-on-honorblades/?hl=honorblades And wondered if Jezrien remained behind in alethkar and helped found the kohlin noble family. Their color schemes match, blue and white, and they forge alethkar into a coherent kingdom, taking after Jezrien's honorable leadership qualities. This isn't the most substantial evidence, but worthy of at least being speculated on. Also I feel the brief description of Jezrien in the prologue of WoK was fairly reminiscent of Dalinar. "The figure in white and blue glanced toward him. Even after all these centuries, Jezrien looked young, like a man barely into his thirtieth year. His short black beard was neatly trimmed, though his once fine clothing was scorched and stained..." "[Dalinar] rode with his helm tied to his saddle! exposing a square face topped by short black hair that had gone white at the temples... His nose was the wrong shape, his feature blocky rather than delicate. It was the face of a warrior."
  22. I don't think it could be jez, as kalak was the last to leave the circle of honor blades, based solely on that assumption, kalak would have the better standing. However, this is a small side point
  23. Just on the whole more of Dalinar being the leader he was meant to be Tied in with new characters for each order of Radiants, whether that be through interlude or explicitly meeting more heralds Also a large helping of talanel dropping some historic heraldic knowledge on the ignorant of Alethkar
