  1. Cycle 4: Ash to Ashes Ashbringer was killed by the exe and by the eliminators and was a Villager! Vote Count Ash (6): Striker (5): Ash, Xino, Elenion, Elenion (4): Mat, Araris, Kas, Striker, Xino (4): Flamingo, Flamingo (2): Mat (2): Today’s Items Creepy Doll Ability: Roleblock Description: It’s a spooky doll. Perhaps it’s special? Every time you look it gets creepier. History: In QF 26, this doll was passed around every two cycles. It did nothing and provided no hint as to why the Shades kept killing, but it did get progressively creepier each time it was passed. All Consuming Rabbits of Doom Ability: Bid down Description: A lot of rabbits. A lot. History: LG38 was a game in which players chose all the rules and could propose new ones each cycle. One of those was that everyone got a rabbit, and you’d get more if someone ever held a male and a female at the same time. They also ate an item or pancake (don’t ask) from you each cycle, a rule which was quickly changed because they were eating everything. Mercenary Cupcakes Ability: Protect Description: Some very fancy cupcakes History: In LG 33, everyone who didn’t pay for lodging at the University had to sleep on the streets and risked a 25% chance of death every cycle. Aman never sent in lodging orders and survived on the streets for 6 cycles in a row by bribing mercenaries with these cupcakes, before finally being killed by an assassin. Player List @Ashbringer Villager @Matrim's Dice @xinoehp512 @Araris Valerian @Kasimir @_Stick_ Villager @Thaidakar the Ghostblood Villager @StrikerEZ @Elenion @Flamingo @Amanuensis Villager @Experience Villager Cycle 4 has begun and will end at 5:00pm Eastern time. The public vote count sheet is here.
  2. THE CYCLE IS OVER!! PLEASE SHUSH NOW See y'all soon Or, most of y'all
  3. You only get extra votes if you get an item, and you get them the next cycle - i.e. if you bid on an item C1, you had votes added to you for the vote count at the start of this turn.
  4. Cycle 3: Faster Than The Eye Can See Experience was killed by the exe and was a Villager! Thaidakar was killed by the eliminators and was a Villager! Vote Count Experience (10): Ash, Striker, Elenion Ash (8): Kas (4):Striker (4): Kas, Experience, Elenion (3): Mat, Xino, Flamingo Araris (2): Mat (1): Thaidakar, Thaidakar (1): Araris Today’s Items Hael’s Severed Head Ability: Bid Up Description: A decapitated head in a sack. History: Hael’s head was an object of desire for a year or so, early on in SE. This includes, but is not limited to Lopen getting his head as the last eliminator in LG18 and Maill killing him C1 in LG19 for the same reason. Alv was planning to build a kind of SE frankenstein out of various body parts, and Hael’s head was one of them. Araris’ lerasium bead Ability: Roleblock Description: A small bead of metal containing the solid essence of Preservation History: In LG19, a troll GM early on made a rule call that if a player got three beads of lerasium (a very rare item to get), they could ascend to Preservation. And then Araris did, and consumed all three beads to Ascend to Preservation. He then killed every remaining player in a storm of metal covering the whole village while spiking himself to win with the elims. Wilson’s Shardplate Ability: Roleblock Description: Shining blue Shardplate History: In LG20, Wilson was the last eliminator standing, and knew the game was broken against her, but she had a set of Shardplate to protect her. She still lost, but she used the Shardblade to give the village a good fight first. Lifeless Rabbits Ability: Roleblock Description: These reanimated rabbit corpses come equipped with mallets to bop people on the head. History: In LG 25, the elims used their ability to steal breath from the elim kill victim to acquire the most Breath-costly items in the game, the rabbits, allowing them to kill several additional villagers. Player List @Ashbringer @Matrim's Dice @xinoehp512 @Araris Valerian @Kasimir @_Stick_ Villager @Thaidakar the Ghostblood Villager @StrikerEZ @Elenion @Flamingo @Amanuensis Villager @Experience Villager Cycle 3 has begun and will end at 4:00pm Eastern time. The public vote count sheet is here. Note: Although items have shared pools, if both winners bid on a specific instance of that item, I will tell both of them that they got it (so multiple copies are possible).
  5. There's no official inactivity filter this game, fyi. Thanks
  6. Cycle 2: Another year, another death Stick was exed, and was a Villager. Aman was killed by the elims, and was a Villager. Vote Count Experience (4): Flamingo, Mat, Stick, Striker Stick (4): Araris, Experience, Kas, Thaidakar Flamingo (1): Xino Mat (1): Elenion Today’s Items HAZECRUSHER Ability: Roleblock Description: Absolutely gigantic aluminum hammer. History: Item that dropped (rarely) in LG11 and its sequel LG19. Notable primarily for being EXTREMELY AWESOME. Korathi Pendant Ability: Protect History: In LG12, this was a protect item that was very important at the end of the game. Meta was holding it, and could have saved Wilson, Alv, and Kas from death in the Great Fireball of Death that ended the game, but chose not to out of extreme paranoia. Discord Ability: PM Description: A halberd History: Haelbarde’s halberd in MR7, which was notable mostly for being able to talk and for trolling constantly. Bloodied copper vials Ability: Roleblock Description: What it says on the tin History: In AG2, Meta gave the village an insane abundance of Smokers. And the village promptly role-exed them all one by one, certain that they’d find an eliminator eventually. That... did not go well for them. Doctor’s coat Ability: Bid Down Description: A doctor’s white lab coat, with a few specks of blood dusted on it. History: In QF7, literally everyone signed up as a doctor. This eventually gave rise to Wonko’s Abundance of Doctors. Player List Player List @Ashbringer @Matrim's Dice @xinoehp512 @Araris Valerian @Kasimir @_Stick_ Villager @Thaidakar the Ghostblood @StrikerEZ @Elenion @Flamingo @Amanuensis Villager @Experience Cycle 2 has begun and will end at 3:00pm Eastern time. The public vote count sheet is here. Please put non-game-relevant talk in spoilers, y’all. It’s insane enough already.
  7. THE CYCLE IS OVER!! ANY POSTS AFTER THIS ONE WILL NOT BE COUNTED. Please go enjoy a 5-10 minute break while I figure out what happened and send PMs.
  8. Fixed. Everyone please try and put your votes in bold so I don't miss them!
  9. Per the now-updated sheet: Elenion (2): Ash, Striker Experience (2): Flamingo, Mat Mat (2): Amanuensis, Stick Stick (2): Experience, Kas Ash (1): Thaidakar Flamingo (1): Xino Striker (1): Elenion Xino (1): Araris
  10. Thanks Also, though I'll try to keep up with thread, please use your GM PM for anything directed at me (or tell me you have in there at least) so I'm sure to catch it.
  11. Cycle 1: The First Stories Today’s Items Ubertin Spike Ability: PM Description: A long, thin silvery spike made entirely of tin. Faintly glowing and cold to the touch. History: LG2 was SE’s first conversion game, in which a single player started as Inquisitor with a bunch of spikes and could use each to convert another player. Each spike had a power, and what those powers did was a secret. One of them was Ubertin, which allowed the elims to spy on literally every PM in the game. That quickly became the bane of Meta’s existence (copy-pasting hundreds of PMs is not pleasant, I can confirm), and the players not knowing it was a possibility was generally agreed in retrospect to have been decidedly not great. Slaughter Ability: Bid Down Description: History: MR1 involved a Nightwatcher mechanic in which you could ask for aid and be given a boon and a bane. When Gamma asked for the ability to ‘Kill with Laughter’, he received (S)laughter, an Awakened sword which he could use to kill, but part of his bane was that every sentence he wrote for the remainder of the game (in post, PM, or doc) had to start with S, which literally no one noticed. Cuddles Ability: Roleblock Description: A black, Awakened sword with a friendly air. History: This sword was created by the evil team in LG4 and dubbed Cuddles at the time. Wilson (an elim) ended up giving it to Gamma (a villager), who quasi-betrayed the village win con (although the village still won by a big margin). It reappeared in MR16 as one of the items in the lottery, where it passed to Elenion. He then gave it to Wilson after the game, and she still holds it (and is very protective of it). Lost Spanreed Ability: PM Description: A spanreed with cracks running down the stem, which appears to have been glued back together. History: In LG5, the village was sure that the elim team would’ve been given a spanreed (which, just as in this game, was a PM item). And they were right! But the elims came up with the clever idea to pass their spanreed to someone who already had one, which according to the rules of that game would silently destroy it. And the village killed all the other initial spanreed holders, and gave the evil team a very nice set of missed exes and kills. Mashadar pandamodium Ability: Bid Up Description: An evil-looking stuffed toy panda sprinkled in blood and emanating an intense air of malice. Picture is spoilered below - fair warning, it is very gory. History: one of the more storied items of SE history. It started in LG6, where Jain (a player known for playing every or almost every game as some kind of panda) gave his stuffed panda that game to Kas, who was Padan Fain. In the game, this ended up flavored as the panda being stuffed full of Mashadar evilness. It was then later imbued with Odium in LG10, and has ever since been a thoroughly creepy and evil object passed through various hands. Reckoner’s jacket Ability: Protect Description: A translucent jacket, nearly insubstantial to the touch and invisible once put on. History: In LG9, Maill (one of the eliminators) completely fabricated a claim of the “Reckoner’s Jacket” which did not in fact exist in the game. He later gifted the jacket to Wilson (who had been one of his teammates that game) as a goodbye gift before his mission. Since then, it’s come to symbolize being audacious, leaving restraint behind, and insane gambiry. Player List @Ashbringer @Matrim's Dice @xinoehp512 @Araris Valerian @Kasimir @_Stick_ @Thaidakar the Ghostblood @StrikerEZ @Elenion @Flamingo @Amanuensis @Experience Cycle 1 has begun and will end at 2:00pm Eastern time. If you want a link to spectate, please let me know. All PMs should have been sent out. Other announcements: I posted this in the signups thread, but I'm putting it here too. Don’t go into it with the same expectations as in a normal game. In particular, the game might be horribly broken, it might start or stop in the middle, and the end may not be satisfying at all. Try to have fun anyway, but don’t get your hopes too high about winning. Try to interact with the rules; that’s what the GM is testing. Spell out your thoughts if you have them, in your GM PM if not in thread. Feel free to banter and have fun, but keep anything not game-relevant in spoilers if at all possible - we want it to be as easy as possible for people to catch up on the thread, and not everyone has as much time as you might. (Doc banter can also be in a separate section, if need be.) Also, the IM for this game is @Devotary of Spontaneity. All PMs will include her. Remember that this is a PM-limited game - you should not be making any PMs; I will make them when necessary at the start of the turn. Also, as I expect this game to be hectic, please put a note in your GM PM if you see any potential problems arising - we will try to keep tabs on everything, but we're only human. In addition, here is a public vote count sheet, which I will be keeping up to date as much as possible. It’s there both for your reference, and to make sure that if I get anything wrong, you can know and correct me before I actually put up the next cycle with the wrong person dead. And a few extra clarifications (which will also be edited into the OP rules in just a moment): I never gave the village and elim team names, so they are just Villagers and Eliminators. (So a villager will receive “You are a Villager” and an elim will receive “You are an Eliminator” plus a doc link.) Elim kills will be distinguished from ones done with an item. If Wilson is attacked but protected, the thread will show “Wilson was attacked by [X], but didn’t die!” where X is elim vs item kills. You might not be told in your GM PM if your bid failed, or if your action went through as normal. You will be told if you win an item, if you’re roleblocked, or if your bid was changed up or down.
  12. Hey everyone! A few quick things before the game starts. First, please remember these notes about the Break Tank format: Don’t go into it with the same expectations as in a normal game. (Doc banter can also be in a separate section, if need be.) PMs will be going out in the ~15 minutes prior to game start. Anyone still hesitating has until then to sign up. Also, the IM for this game is @Devotary of Spontaneity. Please also note that there was one inconsistency in the rules, which has been fixed now: once you receive an item, you do not have to use it immediately. You can use it on any future turn at your leisure (although you only have one action per turn, so you can't use more than one at once). If you have any questions or clarifications about the rules, I'd love if you could find those now if possible so I don't have to do them during the game itself as much The current player list is, by my count: @Ashbringer @Matrim's Dice @xinoehp512 @Araris Valerian @Kasimir @_Stick_ @Thaidakar the Ghostblood @StrikerEZ @Elenion @Flamingo @Amanuensis The game will start in a little over three hours!
  13. Yes My count is: Ash, Mat, Xino, Araris, Striker, Kas, Stick, and Thaidakar.
  14. So yes, as it stands it looks like we’ll be going on Saturday at 1pm eastern. We only have 8 players, which is definitely lower than I’d prefer, but if I delayed it’d have to be by two weeks and I’d much rather just run it now.
  15. Since it's a Break Tank, RP is not required and I'll in fact be asking people to put any RP they do in spoilers for the ease of catching up / seeing game-relevant stuff for those who have less time. (Same with any random OOG talk; all this is specified in the break tank rules.) And again, I'm only claiming to be selling copies of items, not the originals
  16. I do want to run a game and I will next week, but not a QF!
  17. Come one, come all, to the GREATEST AUCTION OF YOUR LIFE! Come buy magical mysteries, wondrous weapons, and even captured frozen MOMENTS IN TIME! You could own... ...the renowned sword (S)laughter, whose cackles echo across the Cosmere! ...the famed Reckoner's Jacket, which grants courage beyond your wildest dreams! ...the coin-purse with which Emperor Sheev bribed Constable Altea to SLAUGHTER THE SENATE! ...a perfect replica of the wooden bus which DESTROYED Fallion’s Tears! AND MANY MORE! But let the buyer beware: the price will be high. Take care, or it may cost you your very life. THE AUCTION OF STORIES coming March 5, 2022 Welcome to Break Tank 1: Auctioning Stories! The rules are down below, but first, on signing up: the game will take place on Saturday, March 5th at 1pm Eastern Time or Sunday, March 6th at 10am Eastern Time. When you sign up, please indicate which you would prefer. With each cycle being one hour, remember that (depending on the number of players) the game is likely to go on for several hours. In addition, as the writeup makes clear, the flavor of this game is historical items from SE, which means I need item suggestions! If you’ve been playing for any time at all, please provide at least one (more if you can!) item you recall from a past SE game. Include the item, the game it’s from, and a brief description of what happened to it. A few examples are provided at the bottom of this post. Rules The Auction At the start of each cycle, the available items at auction will be announced. There may be multiple items with the same power; two or more identical powers share the same pool and the winners will be the 2 (or 3, or ...) highest bidders. All players can send in a bid in their GM PM for a single available item. (The bid may not be higher than the number of living players.) The highest bidder on each item (tied bids are randomly decided) may use that item once during any following cycle. (Bids happen after death in the order of actions, so a dead player’s bid is not counted.) Who won each bid, and for what amount, is not announced. The ‘currency’ with which players bid is the number of votes that will be automatically added to them for the next cycle. That is, if in cycle 1 Wilson bids 1 vote to get a Protect item and is the highest bidder on that power, she will have 1 vote added to her name in the cycle 2 vote count. These extra votes will not be revealed in thread except as part of the next cycle vote count. The order of actions is such that every power comes before Removal. Housekeeping Standard village and elim factions; elims have a group doc and a kill. The factions are unimaginatively named Villagers and Eliminators. 1 hour combined cycles. Vote minimum is 1, ties result in a random death. Only 1 action is permitted per turn (and the elim kill counts as an action). Bidding is not an action. Any items you had at the time of your death are not announced in the writeup. The writeup does announce if a person is attacked but protected (including that person's name), and item and elim kills are distinguished. You will be told if you're roleblocked, or if your bid is changed up or down. You might not be told if your action goes through as normal, or if you lose your bid. Order of Actions: roleblock everything else kill execution bidding Item Types Roleblock: prevent your target’s action from succeeding. If the target attempted to use an item, that item is still used up. (If the player took no action, your item is still used up.) Bids are not an action. Protect: protect your target from a single attack (not including the execution). Can protect yourself. Kill: attack your target. Bid Up: increase your target’s bid by 2. (This does add two more votes to them the next turn.) Bid Down: decrease your target’s bid by 2. (If this results in a bid of less than 0, the target does not have any extra votes added but does not get a vote taken off of them either.) PM: you have a PM for a single cycle with a target of your choice. Unlike other powers, you specify your target during the cycle in which you bid, and may include a single backup target in case your first choice dies. The PM will be opened by the GM at the start of the next cycle. Participants I provide no guarantee that any particular item will actually be included in the game. Note that none of these are claiming to be the “original” item, just a copy, but if you have attachment to a particular item and would prefer that it not be included, let me know. Here's a sample of items, to get you started on ideas: Quicklinks
  18. On their own schedule, TBD exactly how often - I'm thinking somewhere in the range of every 2-4 weeks, but we'll have to see. Yes, they do. Also, I'd encourage who wants to sign up for a Break Tank to read the Break Tank rules carefully, please.
  19. To be fair, that's very very vaguely what having a mid-year game that switches off between Shard and KKC is? (Which to be clear is the very tentative plan starting with KKC next year) KKC definitely doesn't need to be anonymous, though, it's got enough going on already. >> But I'd say that the AG is also in some ways a good place to have an anonymous game because you're less likely to have just the same set of players you're usually playing with - older / less active players will come back, and thus you'll have a weirder and wider set of identities to guess.
  20. Right, okay. In that case @StrikerEZ I'd probably recommend the majority-exe as a BT but the probabilistic one doesn't necessarily need to be. @StrikerEZ you saw what Kas said Game creation please! Okay, noted.
  21. Alright, so majority-exe with variable turn times or probabilistic exe. Noted.
  22. Please recall that we strongly encourage signing up only once you have a specific idea in mind. Do either of you?
