To be honest, it kind of surprised me when the Fused's ultimate plan all along was just to just topple the tower of Urithiru over. That scene was incredibly well written, however, though sadly their plot seemed to have killed tens of thousands.

Turns out, along with art, the Fused are really bad at Jenga.

  2. Guessing Glimpses are Mon-Fri only?

    Nope.

"Have you given up on the gemstone, now that it is dead? And do you no longer hide behind the name of your old master?"

Absolutely no idea what to do with this one, guys.

    edit: ninja'd. poop.

  3. Or it could be something along the lines of, "we have our eyes on you," only they're implying, "we'll be listening for you."

I like the idea of this as a "we're watching you" kind of thing.  Definitely I got the feeling they will extract vengeance on Kaladin given the chance.

This might have been a better thread to post this theory:  http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/5956-dawnshards-and-their-relationship-to-the-listeners/#entry95626

  4. I'm not really a fan of the idea of the Pareshendi simply being Voidbringers, at least not in the first instance. It feels too obvious. Being more magical of nature than most other sentient humanoids we've encountered, and particularly with their different forms, I can see Odium subverting them, luring them with power, perhaps causing them to Envy the KR, and then offering a way of getting even - a new, powerful form, or set of forms. If the Parshendi were the might behind one of the first desolations, before the KR were created by the Spren, displacing them as the leading force... Odium could definitely play on the resentment. Once they 'sold their soul to the devil' (as it were), using forms provided by Odium, facilitated by Voidspren, they became Odium's foot soldiers.

My thoughts would be that this theory is works for the original desolations, pre Knights Radiant, but then afterwards, Odium subverted them. The listeners have long memories, there could have been resent.

I reckon it suits Odium's MO. He wants to keep his Investure to a minimum. Creating a powerful race such as the Parshendi does not fit with this. If the Parshendi were of Cultivation, and Odium subverted them with new forms, then that is minimizing his Investure.

Who really interest me are the Shin, who I think are put in contrast to the Parshendi in many ways. I look forward to Szeth's book. Hopefully more will be revealed.

Thank you for posting this theory Alice! Upvote for you!

That sounds like a possibility.  The other thing I considered, after my recent reread, is that it's not the live Parshendi that become the Voidbringers, but their dead.  The thing that made me think of it is that they would usually leave their dead on the stone slabs, and the way they defend their dead - you don't want to disturb the vengeful gods.  And the kicker would be, that the Alethi war that is decimating the Parshendi would make this the mother of all desolations.  (Just a random musing, don't know if anyone has brought this up as a possibility before, and I haven't really fleshed it out as a theory.)

  5. I think I'm going to get the ebook for my Nook to read, and wait to get the hardcover at the Philly signing, so I can support the hosting bookstore. It will suck to wait to see the end papers, but I know Brandon asks that we buy a book at signings. Now that I think about it though, maybe I will finally pick up a memory of light hardcover there instead....

Exactly my plan (and I'm also in Philly!)

  6. It looked to me like a glove poking out from under her sleeve.

    PS>  I love that cremling!

I just saw that the OP thought it was a glove, too.  Which is a good explanation, but would be another Whelanism as she wears a full sleeve and not a glove.  At first glance, it looked to me that the third finger had a nail, but much more likely to be another gloved finger.  *note to self: finish reading and look more carefully before posting.

  7. Tor just posted this saying  it's the endpaper art for WoR.  Does this mean that the KR Table and "Voidbinding Stained Glass" are not permanent for all SA books?  This is totally beautiful.  Kind of wish it was the cover.  Tho Action Jackson Kaladin is growing on me.  There's a lot of cool Double Eye of the Almighty imagery on her boots and satchel  (and you can see a hint of that safe-hand!.. tho it's gloved as well -_- )

The picture is absolutely beautiful, and I do think it's a great representation of Shallan, but if that's her safe hand peaking out there, what on earth is wrong with it?  Those fingers look massive and odd.  Or is that just me?

  8. Except that I think somebody wielding an honorblade would be more powerful than someone with a normal shardblade.

Perhaps not, depending on how the Honorblades are more powerful.  Until we know more about them, it's possible that someone would use it and it would behave just like a normal Shardblade, unless they know how to harness its power.

First post!  Excited for WoR to be out soon...
