One of my favorite quotes from Lopen in this book: “Tonight,” Lopen said, finger to the air, “I will be victorious. It is said you should never bet against the one-armed Herdazian in a drinking contest" Just because it reminds me of And because of this from now on I will read Lopen parts in my best Wallace Shawn impersonation.

Jasnah's most important lesson for Shallan
Scrutiny replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
Every time I read this quote, it makes me think not about self confidence but about the appearance of self confidence. The illusion! I think the most important lesson pointed to here is not honesty or self confidence but rather quite the opposite. Light weavers create lies, and Jasnah pretty much tells her that power comes not only from within but rather how people perceive. This is a very important lesson whose other surgebinding power is the creation of lies, err I am mean illusions. -
What do you think will be Jasnah's most important lesson for Shallan? 1) The voidbringer writings she worked so hard on? 2) Lessons about Shadesmare? 3) Soulcasting? 4) Something else? I think her most important lesson is summed up from this quote in chapter 1: Jasnah even says its the most important lesson, more important than soulcasting. This quote is very foreshadowing, not only because it is important for Shallan to stand up for herself and face her dark past, but also because talks about illusion even before we know she is a light weaver, or what light weaving really is.

Look a special machine has been invented for reading WoR. Not only must you pay for the book but you must also buy the page turner .

If we go with the theory that Szeth surge binds because he has an honor blade, we know that Szeth must also inhale to become infused so this really does not answer that they have a true surge binder or an honor blade wielder. I have to agree with Quantum that if Shen were a spy he would have by the time (minimum of 2 platue runs after Bridge 4 found out about his surege binding) of the interlude reported that Kaladin was a true surge binder. So in my humble opinion Shen is here to teach both Humans and Listeners alike that Listeners can assume new safe forms. Jasnah is right that the listeners can be the voidbringers, but so can humans. But not every Listener is going to be Evil, just those that choose or are tricked into assuming those types of forms, just like humans choose through their free will.

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Scrutiny replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Based on the quote he never lied about how he got the shards he only tells half the truth. Maybe he will attract a cryptic -
From this quote This definitely supports the theory that Szeth carries an honor blade. Does this also mean that Heralds cannot surgebind without their blades?

Excerpt from Words of Radiance: Chapters Six, Eight, and Nine
Scrutiny replied to kobain's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Szeth not having a spren is WoB. -
Maybe we will get Darkness' point of view, that would be cool. 3 books left in first cycle: Navani, Gavilar, Darkness [edit] forgot Eshonai make that Eshonai, Gavilar, Darkness
-
I am sure it will have some use in the story except just a paper weight, BS does not waste words very often. I like the idea of it having an affect on Surgebinders within its vicinity.

Upvote for awesomeness for taking this theory one step further.

Based on the latest release of chapter 7 I believe Shallan's flashbacks will be recreated as illusions. Pattern will force her to use her other surge of illumination to show her flashbacks and reveal the hidden truths thus making their bond stronger. The only backup for this theory is when Shallan asked her first memory of him he essentially forces her to start creating an illusion of the time. The setup of a lie spren in these three chapters in is interesting in that the spren finds it interesting to find lies hidden by truth.

Theory: Kaladin meant to to wield a Shardblade? (Spoilers)
Scrutiny replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
I never used the word emotion, but remember upon the Recreance these blades went dark. There must have been something that made them glow, a spren, or piece of honor? that was no longer there. We now have a powerful yet empty weapon just waiting to host something new, why not a corrupted spren or a piece of odium. The first use of these hollow blades was greed of the humans that first possessed them, couldn't this have opened up these shards for corruption?- 42 replies

Theory: Kaladin meant to to wield a Shardblade? (Spoilers)
Scrutiny replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
OK maybe this is far fetched but the original purpose of the shards was to kill voidbringers (creatures of hate) right? And if you look at the way a shardblade kills it literally cuts out the life force of the being it hits. And since the blades we see now are no longer used to kill only void bringers but rather humans and other lives they have become corrupted by that hate. That is why Syl hates them as a creature of honor and despising Odium as well. So maybe the original purpose of KR shards was not to kill the corrupted life force but rather kill the corruption in the soul itself. thus leaving the shell of the human, or parshman or ? alive but kill the corrupting force within it. I do not want to add WoR spoilers to this thread but there are supporting arguments to this on the Front or back cover description about how magic can fill a soul, but couldn't corruption do that as well? Just a theory but....- 42 replies

Theory: Kaladin meant to to wield a Shardblade? (Spoilers)
Scrutiny replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Could the shard blades be formed as part of the Nahel bond? This could be why they stopped glowing during the Recreance. As the KR abandoned the shards the spren also abandoned the shard thus it stops glowing and becomes a shard with no spren investiture. An unsponsored blade could be similar to a Parshman that has no form.- 42 replies

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Scrutiny replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Perhaps he will be dueled by a non-Shard bearer? remember BS does not drop a hint unless he tends to use it. From WoK he says the Kings shards are available for dueling....
