  1. Ferrochemy Voidbinding Anon Dor, and other Elantris Magics
  2. Now, Let us take a look at each of the known magic systems. Some, notably Forgery and Awakening, provide incredible insights as to how the spiritweb works, or interacts with other things overall. I'll try to start my list with those that are most revealing: Forgery Biochromatic Breath
  3. Draft 1: Forging The Spiritweb Forgive me for length, it is long, and hopefully complete. Disclaimer Let's begin by describing... The Nature of Investiture: Next, what is the spirit web? According to Cannon, lacking a better defenition than this, I have provided my own. (there is another descriptive quote under the topic of Hemelurgy, below) The Spirt-Web, is the sum total of all physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and other ties a person object or thing have to other people objects or things. The comparison to a physical web might be useful for many purposes. For a person, This Web defines who they are. To start our analogy, there will be several strands beginning at the center (the person in question) and extending outward, linking to past events, future hopes, current desires, descriptive attributes, and other details that accurately depict the SOUL of the person to whome this spirit web happens to belong. In addition to these, there will be many additional strands. Some of these additional strands will link to people, or ideas to which this person is familiar. There will be strands that connect one attirbute this person has attained, with others. Memories will form, Etcetera, etcetera. So far, this explains (sort-of) why the Spirit Web is approximately equal to the SOUL, as far as practical discussion is concerned. But what about mystical abilities? Yes, every mystical ability described in the Cosmere uses the spiritweb. Every mystical ability a given person has will either have it's own section of the spiritweb describing its function, or will utilize some pre-existing part of the web that they individually, or that all people possess. A Note on sDNA
  4. Given that the AonDor's illusion tactics apparently includes a "full mental picture", it seems likely that Forgery similarly requires you to have a full mental picture of what you're trying to do when you carve a soulstamp. With this in mind, how can one decode a stamp like Frava's Forger was apparently planning on spending a few years doing? The Cognitive element would be hidden and impossible to figure out. You use the a similar Aon no matter what illusion you're trying to manifest (though there's modifiers like crazy), so Forgery likely has the same symbol no matter what memory/part of history you're trying to change for some parts. Decoding a Forgery should be near-impossible, except in general terms. There is SO much to be said on this, I think I'll start a new thread just to answer it (I'm going to have to look up WoB on the Spiritweb, so it won't be immediate). In short, a Forger doesn't have to re-write a person or object's entire history, when they Forge them. What they have to do is understand their spiritweb well enough to change X Y and Z, without the rest of the web noticing. Frava didn't really re-write Ashravan's memories and feelings. she had to know what they were, in order to avoid breaking and mangling them while she was changing the events involving his head injury. She needed to know how he actually would act (and think) in the following weeks, in order to write a very short history that would mesh with who he already was. --- <[this is where I plan on posting the link to a fuller explanation]> edit here it is
  5. To date, how many books has Warbreaker, The Peaceful appeared in?
  6. a Forger, from Sel (the emperors soul) could probably steal breath from people on Nathis (stamp both people with the same soulstamp and the Breath can't tell which is which) a KR, or even a Squire, on Scadrial, could probably do what Vin did with the mists, in Hero of Ages ---------- Added: Brandon said - I tried to explain this concept in another thread (with reference to Ferrochemy). I was right, but my explanation must have really sucked, because no one understood/agreed
  7. would someone be so kind as to post the WoB that indicates Zahel = Vasher it certainly fits for Vasher---he mentions once to Vivenia (I'm having trouble finding the quote) that he had only recently gotten back from ~somewhere~ and found out about the current issues with Hallandren and Idris. (which he probably would have known about for a long long time, if he had been anywhere on Nathis) Zahel, likewise, is obviously much more than he appears, but I had not suspected any connection to Vasher.
  8. This Question may have been asked previously: In Elantris, why is it that Dakhor Monks would be destroyed when they used their power to teleport others? Are they consuming their innate investiture in order to power the teleportation? or is it something else? The Dakhor Monks seem very odd in comparison to other Elantris magic-users. any time they utilize a great deal of investiture it seems to harm or kill them, whereas others can utilize appearingly unlimited investiture from the Dor. What is it that makes them so different?
  9. These may have been answered in the past: 1. what happens to a spren, or a seon if it travels to another shardworld, such as Nathis or Scadrial? 2. Are shardblades usable on other worlds?
  10. This question Has been asked (or at least, very close): Non-Nathis breath cannot be donated to others. edit: re-formatted quote, for clarity
  11. I read The Emperor's Soul the other day (short book; very very good), and I think it explains a great deal about this. While an Aluminium Ferring Could change their identity to match someone elses, they would first have to know what that other person's identity is. They would essentially have to know that person inside and out--or at least be very, very familiar with them--to even have a chance of making the copy accurate enough to fool Breath. Even then, it would take a great deal of time and tinkering: Thinking of Identity the same way as we think of Memory (Feruchemical copper), the ferring would have to store up different parts of their own personality (diminishing them), at the same time as they drew in other parts of their own personality (amplifying them) that they had stored previously. The very possibility is staggering in its implications, but it also shows that is somewhat beyond the realm of possibility. You just wouldn't know enough about those other people to mimic them correctly, and thereby steal their breath. {(Theoretically, f-duralium combine with a-malatium could help with that)} on the other hand: this one is probably possible, given research, and the probability that the strength of a Lifeless's identity is probably weaker than that of a living human.
  12. 1. upvote for Weiry on the Quote 2. can the divine breath be given away like other breaths can? 3. is the consuming of other breaths a trait of the divine breath or of the Returned? --- unrelated: 4. Brandon has said that there were Spren (splinters) on Roshar BEFORE the arrival of Honor, Cultivation, and Odium. True or False?
  13. I have seen several posts on this site claiming that The Returned of Nathis are splinters of Endowment. Where does this idea come from? I thought Endowment was one of the Shards that had not been splintered.
  14. At any point during Scadrial's history, Does the answer to the following Question ever change : [aka, if it is swallowed by someone who cannot normally burn allomantic metals.] ????
  15. Looking at the Ars Arcanum, you could probably get 4 more types of Kandra blessings without leaving Scadrial. (the first 8 metals have 2 to steal allomantic ability, 2 to steal Ferrochemic ability, and 4 to steal human traits [Kandra Blessings]. The last 8 metals have 2 more to steal Ferrochemic abilities, at least 1 to steal Allomantic ability. It stands to reason that the pattern should continue, granting 1 more to steal Allomantic ability, and 4 more to steal human traits.) (Oh, and Atium is outside the normal system: it can be used to steal Anything you want.)
  16. We know kandra are a Created-Race on Scadrial. Are there kandra native to any other world? OR are the kandra on Scadrial based on a race native to some other world? edit: spelling
  17. Brandon has stated that "any magic system may be use to fuel any other". The origional question was in reference to Nightblood using stormlight instead of Breath (yes, it can), so I think its safe to say that a Fabrial could be powered by Breath. -------- Question: Seekers can sense both allomancy and Ferochemy being used. Can they sense the use of Breath, or Dor? If they can sense the use of Breath, can they sense the presence of people with large amounts of breath? or only the actual act of Awakening? (an alternative question, that provides the same information would be "why is it that Hemelurgy was never discovered by observant Seekers, during The Final Empire?")
  18. sounds like a RAFO card to me
  19. If he did poke his hand out of the bubble, he likely wouldn't be able to move his fingers fast enough to gain any advantage. (his hand would be in a much slower time stream, and would seem to take forever to respond.) edit: also, at the end of Alloy of Law...
  20. Is Renarin our only example of a Truthwatcher? what about Ym?
  21. What orders do you think would be most likely to attract very many or very few squires? We know already that Windrunners have the most, and we seem to beleive that they also have the strongest bond to their squires. We also know that Windrunners are associated with the attributes of protection, leading, piousness, and guiding. Wouldn't the Orders that share at least some of these attributes (Skybreakers and Bondsmiths) be most likely to acquire more squires as well? Looking at the complete list of KR attributes, my guess would be that the Stonewardens (Just, Confident, Brave, Obedient) would be least likely to attract alot of followers.
