  1. But Jezrien's Honorblade is plain, too, and he's the Herald of Kings, so one would assume he would get a fancy blade. Kaladin even makes note of it: So maybe Honorblades can change shape? Though the "works of art" description in the prelude was from before Jezrien had added his Blade to the circle, so I suppose those two Blades could be outliers...
  2. One thing I've noticed that I don't think has been mentioned is that everyone says "hum," rather than "huh" or "hmm" when they're distractedly responding to someone. When I was first reading Mistborn, I thought it was unique to Elend, and it was a cool character thing, but then I realized that everyone said it and I had only noticed it in Elend because he zones out more often than anyone else. It drove me nuts for a while, but I'm getting used to it now.
  3. Both times that Kaladin gives Shards to someone (or at least tries to), the chapter is called Stormblessings (Chapter 47 of TWoK, where he kills Helaran and gives the Shards to his men, and Chapter 66 of WoR, where Adolin offers him Shards and he gives them to Moash).
  4. Actually, Bondsmiths are the Pious/Binding Order, associated with Ishar (the charts in the Ars Arcana of WOR and TWoK list the "divine attributes" associated with each herald). Source Also, each KR order has five Ideals, not three: I do agree though that Skybreakers, even those not corrupted by Nale, are probably occupied with the letter of the law.
  5. I've been assuming that they just had to open them from the other side (the non-Urithiru side). Because they opened the one on the Shattered Plains from that side, but they've been trying all the others from Urithiru. Though this is probably too simplistic to be the actual reason.
  6. It was nice to hear you sound out my exact thought process on Hoid's name in the Horneater religion. Made me feel less insane. Or at least less alone in my insanity.
  7. Speaking of people swearing by the Heralds, on p. 100, Adolin swears by "Ishar's soul." Shouldn't it be Ishi's soul? I thought modern Alethi exclusively used the symmetrical versions of the Heralds' names.
  8. The question, though, is whether Feruchemical gold, Stormlight, and the Dor don't heal aging because people don't think they should, the same way Kaladin's brands don't heal because he's accepted them as permanent. At least, that's my question. Maybe someone with more cosmere knowledge can explain why I'm wrong.
  9. Vasher doesn't seem affected by Nightblood, either. I think I saw a WOB somewhere that said you could bond Nightblood, but I couldn't find it, so I'm not sure anymore. Regardless, though, there is precedent for Nightblood not forcing someone to either vomit or kill indiscriminately.
  10. Zahel. Go reread the scene in Warbreaker where he explains BioChroma in very scholarly terms and tell me it couldn't happen. This would have the side benefit of exposing Jasnah to worldhopping, which I would be very okay with. I think Sigzil is also a possibility, but Szeth is doubtful, at least in the immediate future. He's pretty crazy right now, and I think he's need to deal with that before getting romantically involved with anyone.
  11. Coat =/= uniform coat. Dalinar spends a good chunk of WOK complaining about the other lighteyes not wearing uniforms, but they are nonetheless usually described as wearing coats. Not so sure about darkeyes wearing coats, but still.
  12. The scar is mentioned in that quote as being on his jaw and Tozbek is Thaylen, whereas Darkness is described thusly: So probably not the same person. Also, Darkness never seems to express much emotion about anything, but Tozbek seems to have a normal emotional range.
  13. I'm not sure what the justification for it was, but she and her brothers did think in WOK that the Ghostbloods were backing their father for highprince. I doubt they would have done that if there was little to no chance of it working. Of course, they still might not have had a blood claim, just enough soldiers/money/allies to win a succession war.
  14. The one thing in Steelheart that broke immersion for me was when the character with the southern accent (only read it once, so I forgot his name) used "y'all" to refer to a single person. I've lived in Georgia my whole life, and while I try not to use it, I know plenty of people who do, and hearing it used as "you" singular and plural drove me nuts. I mean... it has "all" in the word... it should be kinda obvious it's plural...
  15. They use hogshide for leather: WOK hardback, page 190 It's never said where the hogs are from though, iirc. I always assumed Shinovar, like horses and chickens.
  16. Given Kaladin's history of trying desperately to protect everyone, particularly younger people (see Cenn, the kid in the bridge crews whose death drives Kaladin to near-suicide, even Renarin and Dunny to an extent), I highly doubt he'd hate a kid (who couldn't be older than like 5) because of who his parents are. I do see him being mad at Laral, possibly, though him wanting to rescue her from her betrothal the last time he saw her would indicate that that is also somewhat unlikely. One thing that I am really worried about, though, is that no one will believe it's actually Kaladin. They haven't seen him since he was 15, and he's now a lighteyed shardbearer with slave brands. Who can fly. And his eyes aren't even just a lighter version of the color they were before, they changed from dark brown to really light blue. Amaram didn't recognize Kaladin when he was less changed in appearance AND he had seen him more recently. I mean, Amaram didn't know Kaladin as well as the people in Hearthstone, but still... I feel like it's plausible. And exactly the kind of heart-wrenching thing that Brandon would love to make poor Kal suffer through.
  17. What about the Dor? Unless the Shaod strikes by being eaten/inhaled somehow, this would break the pattern. And Forging seems to have nothing to do with eating/breathing.
  18. I was laughing every time Feather mentioned liking Tyn, but then when she found out about her and had to take off the headset to rant properly, I felt bad. I also enjoyed seeing that I wasn't the only one who thought Jasnah was back in that scene. And of course we all freaked out for the entire fight with Szeth...
  19. When you watch Avengers and think of the Iron Man suit as Shardplate. But then you realize that Sadeas is the one with red Shardplate and want to cry. When your astronomy notes on gravity and pressure in star formation devolve are in terms of Lashings. When you try to use these notes to study for a test, and drift off for ten minutes remembering all the awesome Windrunnung moments in WOR. When you can't use the word "awesome" without thinking of Lift. When you get mad at Words with Friends because it doesn't accept "skaa," "spren," or "crem" as words.
  20. Man, yesterday I was Mistborn. Now I doubt I'm even sentient. I do like the new variety of titles, though! Just need one more upvote to be a person again... Edit: Yes! I have moved up in the world.
  21. I want Kaladin to get one with Growth, so he can heal people. Probably not going to happen, since most of them seem to be in Shinovar and he's going back to Alethkar, but still.
  22. Clearly everyone else knows more about this than me... *bows before superior knowledge*
  23. She could just have it for carrying spheres. Controlling the Shadesmar beads seems to require Stormlight, so she would want to have a lot with her. And spheres are roughly the same size/shape as old bullets... I know nothing about guns, though, and actually didn't know what a bandolier was until you defined it, so my opinion is far from definitive.
  24. I think this is it. House Kholin has two branches, the royal line and the line that rules the Kholin princedom. So Dalinar is referred to by his first name to distinguish him from the king. Also, Gavilar was Highprince Kholin for quite a while (not sure when exactly the reunification war was, but I got the impression that it wasn't too long before Gavilar's assassination, maybe like 10 years before that?). So Dalinar would just have been Dalinar the Blackthorn, rather than THE Highprince Kholin, so most of the highprinces were used to calling him Dalinar from before he became highprince, and just stuck with that.
