I think you're right. Isn't it described like a cycle? Return->Battle->Death->Repeat

What command would you give nightblood
The Shadow replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Warbreaker
Hitler: "NIGHTBLOOD! KILL ALL DARKEYES!" Himmler: "Fuhrer, you have darkeyes." Hitler: "...rust." Or it could be something like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mAXfKnxeAo (I don't know if you can post videos directly). I don't get this one. Explain, please? Positively terrifying. Now, I'm thinking about The Operator from Firefly with Nightblood. My answer: -
Oh, were but it so. Sadly, the book says she's got dark brown hair.

Oh, I don't think there's anything wrong with the bounce her cloud region. Besides, I think the ability to act innocent and naive if more important. Though now you've got me wondering how well Kat Dennings pulls of naive and innocent. I should note that, for apparently no textual reason, I picture Marasai as a redhead.

You stored it in copper. Got it. Well, I see the internet hasn't gotten passed Firefly yet. Not that I can talk, because I'm about to list my favorite actors for petty reasons. I just don't see anyone from Firefly as being a good fit for the main trilogy. Besides, Summer Glau can't be Vin, she'll be too busy play Shai. A few I disagree with, respectfully. Benedict Cumberbatch- I'm still sulking over Sherlock Series 3 and the travesty that was Into Darkness, so he's out for me. Once I get over it, he'd probably be fine for a roll, though he's not on any shortlist for me. Joss Whedon- I mostly hate everthing he's written (Firefly and Avengers, being expections, Buffy being the crowning example). He can direct, so long as the hire someone to keep him away from the script. I. First Trilogy Vin- Jenna Malone (Catching Fire) She's a little old, but she looks young enough, I think. And she can play the role, based on her performance as Johanna. Kelsier- Daniel Craig. He's got the rough look of someone who's been in a labor camp and he can definitely bring out the intense side. I'm not sure as much about the humor, but I think he'll pull it off. Failing that, David Tenant isn't a bad choice. Straff- DAVID MOTHER****ING BOWIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...I like David Bowie. II. Alloy of Law Era Wax- I wouldn't mind seeing Nathan Fillion here, although I'm not sure he's deadpan enough. Chris Hunham would be my next choice Wayne- Mark Shepard. Marasi- Emma Stone. Ranette- Jennifer Connelly I'll have to think more on the rest.

Which Shardworld would you most like to live on?
The Shadow replied to TheShogun's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well, not Threnody... I guess it depends on who I am. If I had powers, it's a toss up of being a Mistborn on Scadrial or a Returned on Nalthis. However, I have this theory I'd be something like bystander #3, in which case the Rose Empire seems pretty safe and I could learn to forge. -
Adapting Brandon's Work to other Media
The Shadow replied to Wyndrunner's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'd love to see a Forger based game. My dream would be basically limitless application of the power. If you could imagine it, you could do it. Sadly, that would probably abandon the principle of It-Must-Be-Plausible to be even remotely workable. -
Thanks for your response. I also enjoy shipping debates (So long as they don't turn into war, which thankfully it hasn't *Has PTSD Flashbacks To The Harry Potter Boards*) TL:DR response- You're right, many of my points are equally good evidence against my sides as they are for it. Specifically: 1. You're right, commonalities are important, but in my experience (which is neither universal or gospel) connection is more important. The ability to be comfortable with each other. True, commonalities helps, but it's not everything. 2. At the beginning, I'll grant you. I really do think that after the defecation conversation, Shallan was able to relax and be herself around him. Her maneuvering worked as planned, but he took it (mostly) in stride and now she knows he accepts her, unladylike behavior and all. 3. Face, meet hand. Yeah, I didn't think that one through as well as I did. My only excuse is that I wrote that at 2am. That said, I think there is a difference between all three examples. She owed the deserters and she seeing someone killed will horrify most people. And yes, Kaladin was being a chull, but what he said was no worse than anything she said. Maybe the way he hid is what set her off, but I think it's a sign that she cares for him that she defended something she herself would do (not that this is the only example of her hypocrisy in the book). 4.True. The thought had occurred (It also occurred to me that I'm a storming airsick lowlander for saying Vivenna/Susebron were an example of a successful arranged marriage. Siri, Shadow. Get it together, man!) It's going to come down to which twist Sanderson goes with (I really think Adolin and Kadalin are her only real choices). He can either subvert his theme and go with the traditional main guy/main girl, or he can go with the latter and subvert the form. Seeing as how he likes to play with expectations, that may be the best evidence that she'll be with someone else.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
The Shadow replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When your boss tells you to sort through a box of parts to weed on the ones with red spots and burrs, and you smirk because you're looking for rust and ruin. -
I think it could work. Double the length of the GoT season and they should have enough time to cover everything vital. But I also really like the animation idea, provided it was good animation. I'm thinking original Johnny Quest.

Upvoted! I thought about something similar to this topic when I considered 11's line "The name you choose for yourself is like a promise you make." If I might be allowed to get Jungian for a moment: I will confront the evil within my heart, and I will conquer it. I will be the the good others dare not be, and I will inspire them.

... ... I'll be in my bunk... In seriousness though, I voted for Adolin. Not because I prefer him with her to Kaladin (surprisingly, though I'm a Natural-Born Shipper, romance hadn't really entered my mind while reading), but because it seems most likely to me (though I would be surprised if Shallan/Kaladin happened either). People keep saying Adolin and Shallan have little in common, but I think that's exactly what's going to keep them together. With Kaladin, I think, they both will run the risk of focusing too much on their pain as they see themselves in each other. Adolin is Shallan's escape. She's at ease with him. She can forget. I think she'll cherish that. I also think her feelings for him run deeper than people think. Remember, she was very defensive of him when Kaladin was making fun of him. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but she doesn't seem the sort to defend people she doesn't care for. Also, I agree with the others about Kaladin not wanting to come between them. It's a matter of honor for most guys in real life, let alone Honor's champion. Maybe if Adolin died, he would try, but even then, I'm not sure. Finally, on the meta side of things, Sanderson does seem to like his arranged marriages to work out. It happens often enough to be a theme in his work.. -Sarene/Raoden -Vivenna/Susebron -Wax/Steris (This may be premature, but I'm counting it) -Shallan/Adolin would just be one more.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
The Shadow replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When the pile of steel washers at your work station comforts for you, because you know you have fuel and weapons. Heh, I suppose I can see that. Thanks. I would think in terms of my namesake. Your comforted by the pile of steel slugs at your work station, because you have fuel and weapons. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
The Shadow replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm that way. I can never just stop reading a book/series like that. I have to "walk it off". Yeah. And similar things. My mind is like the Infinite Improbability Drive: When not actively engaged, it doesn't just wander, it pass through every possible train of thought almost simultaneously before landing somewhere weird. Back on topic, you know you're a Sanderfan when you introduce yourself as "<Full Name>. Of the 17th Shard." and then get disappointed when they're not impressed. -
This one.

how many real world people are cosmere-aware?
The Shadow replied to king of nowhere's topic in General Brandon Discussion
There will be. It's already starting. This wiki is the first draft. As for the general topic, it's always my selling point. People can read a short series and be done, but there's a hidden epic waiting for them, I choose to follow it. -
Why Does Mr. Sanderson Write These Books?
The Shadow replied to Nick11's topic in General Brandon Discussion
This, a million this. I favor, and always have, the chaotic good heroes and the anti-heroes in fiction. For example, I've never understood why heroes have such a issue with lying to the villain. These books are reconstructing the idea of honor and restoring my faith in. Kaladin struggles, but he does what is right, because it's right. -
Three White Sand Comics from Dynamite, First in 2015
The Shadow replied to Argent's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Their work is good, but they have a nasty habit of prematurely cancelling series. If they've signed a deal for three, it'll probably be fine, but... -
Well, I broke the old adage of never judging book by it's cover. I was walking through BN when I saw it on display. The gothic artwork combined with a girl (Vin, I now know) wearing something a human would actually wear unlike 90%, intrigued me enough to pick it up. The back cover blurb convinced me to buy it. And the next morning, after very little sleep, I had to go back the next two.

I have to agree. Not everyone is prepared to slog through the Archive. I recommend Mistborn.

Did Andonalsium Shatter Itself Intentionally?

Did Andonalsium Shatter Itself Intentionally?
The Shadow replied to The Shadow's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Very interesting. Thanks! -
I apologize if this has been dicussed, but my search only turned up a brief reference to a similar idea that isn't elaborated on, so here it goes. I think most of us have been operating on the idea that the Shattering was caused by an outside force. Much has been made of the "opposig force" that stood agaist Andonalsium. And that really is a likely theory. But what if we've got it wrong. From the second Interlude, Ym's, from Words of Radiance: It sounds like another one of the Cosmere's religion, it seems a little out of place. Actually, it makes even less sense if you don't assume it's foreshadowing. I think it's a parable, in-universe or out- I'm not sure, for Adonalsium. For whatever reason, it wanted to separate and did so. It's temporary, although it seems to be a long game, and it will reunite. Further evidence: 1) We know Andonalsium, as it was, is gone and gone forever. Brandon has said that if Sazed was killed, he would drop the Shard Harmony, not the Shards Ruin and Preservation. If Andonalsium shattered itself, there would have to be a goal. It would want to come better, not the same. 2) The Shards were shattered with intent. via a New York signing. Who better to shatter with intent than Andonalsium itself. If it was the "Anti-Andonalsium", it would probably want to destroy Andonalsium so it could never come back in any sense.
