Words of Radiance in the New Year (Resolutions and Wishes)
Colby Jack replied to The Rooster's topic in Stormlight Archive
My new year's wish: For Brandon Sanderson to announce that the Words of Radiance will be released at the 15th of this month. My resolution: Regular trips to the Gym. By God, I paid for three years. I will use it! -
Theory: Kaladin meant to to wield a Shardblade? (Spoilers)
Colby Jack replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
If Kaladin is destined to be a KR, then he must have a shard weapon to compliment his powers and position. He probably won't pick up one of the abandoned shardblades though. I like to think they're contaminated, like if you cracked an egg and leave it to sit for... oh, a couple thousand years. Maybe the corruption can be reversed if a real KR or someone with Honor's powers touches them, but there has to be a way for new shards to be created to replace the old. On that subject, just how cool would it be for Kaladin to just spontaneously create a Shardblade out of thin air? In front of everyone? A little bit of poetic justice for Sadeas and the little quip he made at the end of the Way of Kings. Man, I can't wait for the next book.- 42 replies

This picture is awesome. I honestly wouldn't mind if Shallan took over the cover since this is her book after all, but I'm fine with Kaladin too. I hope Whelan gets it right this time. On another note, I know Kaladin isn't described as handsome, but I wouldn't mind if Whelan made him look like Henry Cavill. I mean, that man was toxic in Tudor costumes.

Being killed with an Honorblade binds you to it
Colby Jack replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
That would make a pretty bad. What's the point if each time you kill someone, he doesn't die and you just handed him the ownership of your weapon. At first, I thought you meant something like the Frostmourne. -
Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Colby Jack replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually, let me add that the Shard of Honor is only just that, a shard of a whole, a piece of an incomplete soul. Just as Odium is compelled to hate, Honor may also have suffered from the same compulsion towards one very specific aspect with the same obsession. So what right does Honor have to tell anyone how to live their life? He is an incomplete God, a dead God. Just because his philosophy is fancy and optimistic, does not mean jack. Otherwise, perhaps everyone should follow Odium, since he's as old as Honor and clearly more powerful. Their qualifications for that role are dead even. -
By heart, I mean dagger to heart... if you catch my drift.

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Colby Jack replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
The world is alien, but the people are still human. They are each individuals, with their own philosophy and way of life. If you think that the ends justify the means, that's okay. If you think otherwise, that's fine too. The shades of morality is different for everyone. No one should have any say on what a person's beliefs should be and how they must live their life, not even a God. Just because Honor favors those who live a life of honor, does not mean this is the only right way for a person to live. There is a time for honor, and there is a time for evil. Some people are always needed to dirty their hands so others do not have to. There is no one "super philosophy" for everyone and every situation. And if there were, the Ideals of the Knight Radiants is not it. The Ideals of the Knight Radiant was written by a man. The Shard of Honor was also just a man. Like us. Which is why I really hate it when people quote the Ideals of the Knight Radiant as if a single sentence is the answer to every situation. -
Moash always rubbed me the wrong way. It's like every time he opens his mouth, it's related to power/himself in some way. But betrayal? Maybe. I'm honestly not too invested in his character, to be honest. But Danlan? I definitely think she is. Everyone knows that the quickest way to a man's heart is through his son.

He was threatened with that punishment once, and I am ever a fan of implications and foreshadowing.

Bet you Kaladin will find a familiar face in one of his men. Wait, scratch that. I forgot people do take bets seriously around here.

I agree with a lot of that. I just didn't like people quoting the Ideals like the bible. -

I don't want to defend Amaram more than I've already, but I have another quote to add to that little bit of optimism. It's easy to be a saint in paradise. -
Some books are good alternatives for firewood. But let me think back to my childhood. I was quite the card collector then. Whenever I have a card that is bent, I would place them inside a random hardcover and weight it down with even more books. I leave it there for a week or so, and it would come out perfectly... okay. Don't always work as good as I'd hope. And it does nothing for crease.

Why/what was the place the Heralds endured between Desolations?
Colby Jack replied to Grimm's topic in Stormlight Archive
Okay, here's my silly theory. I think the Heralds respawned. This "hell-like place" could actually be the original homeworld for the humans who are currently in Roshar. The spell that made them into Heralds/Immortal was cast there, before it was completely taken over by some menace. So when they die in Roshar, they revive back into their place of origins. As for why they have to return after every Desolation, it's probably one of the conditions to keep the spell active. Like from Harry Potter. The protection spell that his mother cast to protect him would only be active if he spent the summer with his mean aunt, his last blood relative. If the Heralds ditched their homeworld for another, then the contract/pact will be broken. That's all I got with what I have to work with, unfortunately. I'll probably toss this theory aside when the Words of Radiance finally comes out. -
The Chinese have a myth that the moon is populated by rabbits and beautiful women. Much to the disappointment of our astronauts, there were no such rabbits or woman when they got there. Just an endless desolate landscape. Now tell me, the Chinese are obviously a rational and clever bunch. Why do they used to believe such a stupid story? On the same breath, just because an entire culture believes that Honor created Roshar does not make it true. Perhaps some influential priest thought it would sound more impressive to say that their God created the world rather than came here with his followers like a refugee. A lot of time have passed since then. Real facts can easily be altered or lost in that time. Vorinism itself is suspected by this forum to be manipulated in a way by the Sunmaker to carry out a very specific agenda. What we do know is over four thousand years have passed between now and the last Desolation alone. Meanwhile, Buddhism is one of our world's oldest religion. If you take a modern Buddhist and transport him back in time to India or China, he would likely be stoned for heresy. Or think of the Trojan war, which happened roughly three thousand years ago. Obviously, a lot of things we know about it isn't true, such as the participation of the Greek Gods and Achilles himself, but there were a lot more. The Golden Apple, the Trojan Horse, whether the Greeks actually sent a thousand ships... Helen of Troy could very well be ugly for all we know. In fact, I think some scholars even question whether the Greeks actually won the Trojan War, that maybe it was just fan fiction on Homer's part. Now, if even we can't keep track of our own history, how could the Alethi do the same for events over four thousand years past? They aren't exactly known for their brains. I'm sure there are some truth here, but you should really take it with a grain of salt.

Colby Jack replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think Doc is a troll. Kaladin does have an extreme prejudice against any lighteye he comes across. Think back to his first encounter with Adolin. He just watched a lighteye selflessly acted with honor, but he quickly passed it off as a fluke or tried to undervalue a good deed with pettiness and rationalization. Then, when Adolin paid him for a service, Kaladin refused to do what he was asked to do and pockets the money. He did this because Adolin is a lighteye and he is assumed to have plenty of spheres. Even if the last fact is true, it's also true that this act made him no better than a common thief. Justify or color it in any way you want, but Kaladin had acted dishonorably towards Adolin just because he so happened to be born with bright colored eyes. But I doubt he would steal from a fellow with hazel eyes. This borderlines racism... but I think his problem lies with the system of nobility and authority. In this case, rather than blue blood, he associates his hatred with blue eyes. He just doesn't know it yet. It's very similar to the divide between French nobility and the common population prior to the revolution... or Nazi Germany and the dark-haired population in WW2. Hitler didn't just persecuted Jews, you know. In fact, there are similiarities between the Alethi and the Nazis. In Hitler's mind, people with blond hair and blue eyes meant superiority and dominance. If Kaladin does not fix up his act soon, I'm afraid he will be our fallen hero of the series. Only instead of Jews, Kaladin will persecute lighteyes. -
I think Kaladin will be the big bad of the Stormlight Archive.

You may not believe me, but I can travel through time in this wicked, heavily modified DeLorean that I found in the scrap yard. I don't know who built it or why, but man oh man, I had a lot of fun in that baby. Forward a couple years, back a century... Time was my [CENSORED]! Then... in one particular trip, my mother tried to clean my tonsils out with her tongue. It was crazy! I mean, my mother... the woman who carried me in her womb for nine months... solicited me for sex. I nearly destroyed my own existence. Thank God I finally found a loophole or I wouldn't even be here today. Well, that period of my life is over now, and not a second too soon. I simply cannot risk another make-out session with my own mum, though she was kind of... THAT SAID, would you like me to kill Hitler for you instead? I'm sure I won't run into problems if I went back a bit further this time.

You guys got me all excited for a new chapter. Now I'm just gonna sit here and be depress about it.

Other way is head to silver platter, body to starving dogs. -
That reminds me of the Dresden Files. Whenever Harry's life got too comfortable, Mr. Butcher would always throw in a new element to make sure he suffers a bit/a ton.

No, Amaram must be exposed for the liar and traitor he is. As I've said in another thread, I will accept nothing less than his head on a silver platter. His body can be fed to dogs.
