  1. Absolutely, I never intended to suggest otherwise (apologies if that's how it reads), just voicing my thoughts with regard to equipment and challenging assumptions that I think are being made about it. Disclaimer I have NO military background and do not pretend that I do. Also, 11th if you are in the army are you not a solider, even if you are the sniper or a tank driver or regular infantry? Each of the previously listed sub occupation would be equiped differently which is what I was trying to get at.
  2. Morning All, First of all, I semi skim when I read so I sometimes miss the finer detail, which is one of the many things that makes the peoples of this site so great. It is a fantastic resource. Now that I've buttered you all up, I have a question regarding the swords and plate of the Radiants. At Feverstone keep, the Stonewards and Windrunners ditched their gear. Do we have any proof, WOB, quotation or otherwise that specifies that any/all the other orders also had this equipment? I recall reading somewhere that not all Radiants were front line warriors as such. If that is the case can we infer that (and now I'm making things up) for sake of argument, the more mage like orders nominally Elsecallers, Lightweavers, Edgedancers etc. had other kit - staff's, mirrors, roller blades or whatever to focus / enhance their powers? I realise that there has not been much/any mention of this but if the peoples (non-Radiants) pretty much only saw the front line troops that would explain the lack of information. Also, if each of the Orders was roughly evenly populated, you'd only have to account for ~200 odd missing sets of plate and swords as proposed to ~1200. If this has been discussed ad nauseum, could someone please redirect to the requisite location. Cheers,
  3. With respect to the whole shard plate / friction argument. Doesn't the chapter where Dalinar is getting his plate on describe the plate as an (albeit very heavy) extension of himself? So that any surge which was inwardly (i.e. on self) focused affect the plate as it would if you weren’t wearing it?
  4. Maybe as a follower / disciple of Honour you are expected to embrace fate / the divine plan. Seeking information or influence outside that constraint is taboo. Or to quote Garth: "Don't do it yourself man, you'll never afford it. Live in the now"
  5. Danke schön
  6. Please educate at your earliest convinience
  7. Ergo: Santa Claus did it. Or Dalinar sleptwalked it.
  8. Off topic, the title of this thread makes me think of the second episode in the first series of Blackadder.
  9. Spiritual growth was said somewhat tongue in cheek. Though with regard ot sDNA, it is a physical change though the effect is not readily apparent. The point you make is valid, but given cellular replication / regeneration by its very nature hastens the aging process (telomere degradation etc.) and the man's proclivity towards science. (Yeah, Science!) I would argue that they are different enough. However, you should never let science (or truth) get in the way of a good story. I am prepared to suspend my disbelief.
  10. Maybe vibration then? Covers heating your dinner and long distance calling. Also, by that rationale isn't growth slightly too vague? Aging growth, healing growth, spiritual growth? WRT Stoneward(en) could that not just be singular and plural? (S)he is a Stoneward, they are Stonewarden?
  11. My money is on Dalinar: Born in blood and death - his time as the Blackthorn. Striving to rebuild what was destroyed - the KR &/OR the Alethi - Galivar's vision.
  12. Further to this, granted not everyone need to be a powered hero type, as per Metacognitions point above. However (I have only read Elantris once) Galladons skillset (from memory) is: Farming Being Elantran Pessimism Saying Kolo Every team needs a realist. However, I cannot see how Galladon would be much use to the 17th unless they need a pessimistic farmer who says Kolo a lot or one of the two following occurs. 1) He can somehow acces the Dor through Shadesmar - open Do(o)rway or somesuch. 2) He figured out that as long as he know the typography of the location, a Dors a Dor a Dors a Dor. As an aside, how is entering Shadesmar from Sel particularly dangerous?
  13. Magnesium deficiency
  14. I is a happy little el_warko
  15. Which is a far more breaky type word.
  16. With Respect To. The only logical answer to the very valid point you make is that Stoneward contains. . . . . . . tone. Don't worry, I'll show myself out.
  17. This is why I like resonance / frequency / waveform. You heat something (melt rock) by increasing the vibration of the constituent molecules, similarly, sound carries thorugh vibration. WRT accesss to Shadesmar, maybe by matching the frequency of the cognetive and physical you can open gate between teh two?
  18. I ain't saying she a gold digger uh uh. But she ain't messin' with no broke Kholin uh uh. Now that thats out of the way. Pretty lady comes to court and plays two brothers off each other. Where have we heard this before? (I point my pointy finger of accusation at you Narvani). Realistically, either will suit her purpose (in terms of saving House Davar), but I'm in the Rock camp. Sometimes a girl just needs a big burly Horneater. Any which way it will be interesting.
  19. cast chilli Pizza (Edited for my misreading teh previous three words, 'pologies all)
  20. Was thinking much the same thing. Sticking your hand out may not be requisite for the summoning.
