  1. River: There's that presence again. What could it be? I begin making my way over to the balcony. Piscun's location puts me in a difficult position. The balcony seems to be an area only frequented by the staff, so I will have to wait to find time to socialize with him it seems. Perhaps if he sees me... Surely my win has earned me some sort of status. I remember Piscun and Jezebel speaking of rewards. I know it's early in the game, but perhaps I qualify for some sort of prize already. I need more information! I realize, for I still know next to nothing about this tournament. I take a seat as close the the balcony as I can get while still being within Piscun's line of vision, and glance back at the arena, hoping to see some of Eerongal's strengths and weaknesses while I wait.
  2. Would any of my Final Empire notes from the RP be useful in the Wiki?
  3. I had a dream last night about a neat sidequest... Only now I forget the details. All I remember is some sort of super wealthy race was forced out of their land by an occupational army, and within a day had raised a staggering sum to pay for the return of their land (which is up on these cliffs?) All I know is it was Kuri's idea (in dream) and it was super cool, haha.
  4. Hurry up and come to the palace, haha. Sayuri is getting bored.
  5. That's a good point. Because of Forman, Brooke knew exactly what John was like. But I don't think Brooke, even understanding John, would have been able to 'teach' him social skills the way Marci did.
  6. I think Nobody was out to lunch. Yes I know it was her nature to never be happy, but still. Brooke's great, but she's no Marci.
  7. Every time I read "General Dan Discussion" I think it should be changed to "General Dan-scussion." Just a thought. EDIT: Yes, it kind of sounds like "Dan's Cushion." I think it's worth it.
  8. I agree with Silus on the point of the parallels between John and Crowley. Crowley, for a number of reasons (including his William Blake quote, which i LOVED) is my favorite villain. Despite this, I chose book 3. Nobody was a weaker villain, but the intense plotting and Marci overpowered my love of Crowley.

    Remember me?
  11. River: Ah, so my new friend is up next. I wonder what he is capable of. I feel torn. Part of me wants to stay and see how Eerongal fares )and analyze his every move, but the other wants to seek out Piscun and Jezebel again. If Eerongal is worth his salt, this match will be a long enough one. Perhaps I can do both As I move through the crowd, I try to find where Piscun's voice is coming from.
  12. Thanks? I suppose wince-worthy means it was good, haha
  13. River: Sighing, I shift back to my baseline, trying not to let my fatigue show. Peter put up a decent fight, and any head on match against another spheremorph is sure to take its toll, but I can't afford to show any weaknesses here. As I exit the arena, I keep my eyes peeled for familiar faces. ESpecially important ones.
  14. River: As soon as the ghoul lets go I drop into a roll, giving my legs time to recover before I come to my feet. As I turn towards him, I am already running back to the spot where I dropped the alcohol fumbling at my belt for my tinder box with one hand, while still holding my knife in the other. In one motion I empty the box into the alcohol and strike the flint with my knife. By this time two more ghouls have materialized and are suddenly restraining me by the wrists. I curse as both my flint and knife fall to the ground. Looking to the ground, however, I see the hint of a spark glowing in my tinder. Quickly, I split my mind three ways. My hair is the part of my body the most similar to the tinder. Using it for a focus, I link myself to the pile. My arms and legs go numb this time, and I feel myself begin to shiver, but the tinder pile bursts into flame. I complete the second binding, tying the alcohol soaking my flaming tinder pile to the rest of the puddle. At this point my shoulders are screaming with pain as the grip of the two ghouls tightens, but my lips manage to curl into a smile anyways as I make the third binding, tying the now flaming puddle to the alcohol I know is in Peter's stomach.
  15. River: An undead form... interesting. I am glad to see this form also involves alchohol, though his size and strength are worrisome. When the bronze pulses sound in my mind, a frantically try to prepare myself, but I am siezed by some beast before I can do anything. A summoner as well perhaps? The reek of the skin implies it is also undead. As the beast jerks me up by the throat, I manage to keep hold of the nugget of steel, hoping it will either help anchor me in place, or cause Peter to stumble when his shovel moves the same way. I might not be stronger than you, but perhaps your little lap dog is. I split my mind again, and mutter a binding with the last of my breath, binding the rotting skin of the beast with that of its master. Despite the similarity in their flesh, the beast and master are different enough in shape that the heat is drained from both my legs to creat the binding. As it comes towards me, I reach to my belt for my small silver knife. Its true purpose is for creating shavings or tinder, but I suppose it will work for this as well. I stab into the arm of the beast that corresponds with Peter's weapon hand, knowing it will affect him as well.
  16. IS there a release date for alloy of law yet?
  17. River: As soon as Peter starts talking, I dump the liquor on the ground in front of me and begin my shift. Only a fool wastes times talking in a match. The glow envelopes me, and I slowly begin to count down the long seconds during which I am vulnerable. I shift into my Sympathist form, and between Peter's words, his startlingly quick shift, and the time it takes for him to close in on me, I barely have enough time to roll out of the way as he swings his "axe." I curse as my dodge takes me away from the liquor on the ground. Perhaps it would not have worked anyway. I'm not sure if this form will be as drunk as his last... unless, what is that smell? I decide to wait and see, and bide my time as I do. The evaporated water continues to obscure both our vision. I listen with my bronze, hoping to catch a pulse so I can predict his next attack. Noting that his weapon is made of metal, I take a small lump of steel out of my belt pocket and mutter a binding. The steel nugget bobs in the air, responding to the movements of Peter's weapon. I manage to hold on to it and lie in wait, ready to use it should Peter try to attack me again.
  18. I can still sense exactly where he is with bronze, correct? So my sense of where he is should still be better than his sense of where I am. I'll see if I can get a reply up this weekend... no promises... sorry. Two more weeks at this job and then I'm free during weekdays.
  19. River: So, the tankard is bottomless... great. Nonetheless, I think I have a plan. I close both my water skins, saving the ale within for later. Not wanting to get anywhere near Peter's new spinning attack, I bend water about myself. I form a spinning vortex of water and use it to lift me off the ground, away from danger. I land as far from Peter as possible, push the water I've been using out in all directions and evaporate it into steam, severely reducing visibility within the arena. With my bronze, I can still tell Peter's exact location, but he will have to rely on sound, a sense that has likely been hampered by his drinking. I wait to see what happens next, wondering if my steam will buy me enough time to shift forms and finish this.
  20. All right, so as long as a Spheremorph is in form, they can't be killed (except of course by "killing" them to get them out of form and then killing them again). PS: Silus, I found a much better description of how sympathy works in the Name of the Wind Wiki: "Sympathy requires a user to create a "sympathetic link" between two objects. What is done to one object will affect the other. For example, if a sympathist creates a sympathetic link between two coins, he may move both coins equal distances by exerting force on only one. The coin that is not directly acted on by the sympathist will move with the same force and direction as the coin acted on by the sympathist, however, with such a sympathetic link, moving one of the coins will weigh as much as moving both of the coins. The transfer of energy between sympathetically bound objects is not limited only to motion, however. For instance, by creating a doll of a person and making a sympathetic link between the doll and that person, a sympathist can affect the person's temperature by putting the doll near a source of heat. The energy for these actions can either be taken from the sympathist's body or from a nearby energy source (usually a fire). The sympathetic link between two objects can either be strong or weak, depending on the similarity between the two objects. The weaker the link, the more energy goes to waste in performing any action. The strength of the sympathetic link depends upon similarities in shape, size and material. For living objects, strength can be increased by using a portion of the body (e.g., hair, blood). "
  21. Wow. This looks impressive, but I have absolutely no idea how it works. I'll stick to what I know.
  22. So it's all right for a combatant to use lethal force while both are shifted as long as both are both in form, correct? And the enchantment on the place means no matter what, instead of dying they will just return to baseline.
  23. I watch Peter change forms, and listen for his pulses. My bronze reveals that his form is largely what it seems. A martial artist form, with some slight modifications. For one, as he drinks from his tankard, I sense power flare to life within him. A form that uses alcohol as a power source... how amusing As Peter rushes at me, he almost takes me off guard. Even though I know his form must be more deadly than it looks, I was still underestimating him. Only my bronze pulses warn me in time, and a dodge my rolling to the side. As I do, I quickly form a strategy. The alcohol is obviously some sort of power source, and his physical attacks mean he will mostly need to get close to me to do any serious damage. Using one hand, I bend water from the water fall, and send it flying at Peter, hoping to push him across the arena. With the other, I open my water skin and pull on the liquid in Peter's tankard, hoping to redirect it into my water skin.. The pull should serve both to push him off balance, and even if not, with the alcohol safely in my water skins I might rid Peter of a power source. It also might come in handy later...
  24. River: I am about to answer Jezebel when the announcement is made. They certainly don't waste time around here. I make my way to the arena, taking note of the powerful figure. I shift into my water-bender form and take note of his bronze shadow once again. What is that thing? I watch as the balcony retracts and enter the ring. I didn't have time to find out anything about Peter, but I'm not expecting too much of a fight. With the waterfall in place, I should have a constant supply of water to manipulate, and I wouldn't be surprised if he came to the match drunk. I take a deep breath. Here goes nothing... and everything at the same time.
