  1. This is part of the reason why I argue that Nohadon was a Sliver of Honor. If you think about it, there is no way a book could have influenced so many that it altered the very nature of Surgebinding. In a prehistoric era, most people would definitely be illiterate, not to mention that books would have been so expensive that most people would not be able to afford it. In the middle ages, books used to be a status symbol, much like how owning a BMW would be now. Now some people have put forward this objection, (when I made this theory of mine earlier) that Nohadon might simply have "rediscovered" the Ideals, but then my point is why wouldn't the Heralds have simply told the radiants about the Ideals? This quote suggests that the Ideals (in atleast a rough form) originated in the mind of Nohadon. It also suggests to me that Nohadon (or perhaps one of his close friends like Karm or perhaps the Almighty was so impressed by the Ideals of Nohadon.) was instrumental in altering the way Surgebinding worked. For Nohadon or one of his friends or followers to do this, they would atleast have to be a Sliver. What do you people think???
  2. This painting is truly exquisite. The Stormlight Archives is not just a literary masterpiece, in a sense it's also an artistic masterpiece. Also and I wanted to ask you Botanica, I loved your drawing of Hoid/Wit. Could you draw him in the modern era Scadrial in the second trilogy? (not the wax and wayne one). What do you think he'd wear? T-shirt and Jeans?? A suit???
  3. The reason I haven't considered the others: Dalinar, Jasnah, Szeth, Taln etc is because none of them fulfill all the requirements atleast when we consider only the Way of Kings. I just feel that while it could be someone else, it's more likely that it's Kaladin. To fulfill this prophecy, u need 3 things 1. someone who saved you 2. someone who "killed" your promises 3. at least a surgebinder. I believe this should be a Windrunner or at least someone who can manipulate the Surge of Atmospheric Pressure since he/she mentions the wind responding. Maybe, in future books, this could change but think about it, isn't it a typical Brandon twist? Nearly all of us are convinced that Kaladin will get his revenge on Amaram but WHAT IF something else happens?? Also note that Amaram isn't completely devoid of honour. Also Amaram knows a little at least about the voidbringers. Isn't it possible that Kaladin might actually support Amaram against Dalinar??
  4. I have an idea of what is going to happen between Kaladin, Dalinar and Amaram. And it is something I don't think any of us expected. The death chant is a clever use of death chant by Brandon. The one who saved his life is Dalinar (by saving the bridgemen and Kaladin). The one who killed his promises is Amaram (by killing the soldiers who Kaladin had PROMISED to save). The speaker is definitely someone who can control the wind aka a Windrunner who is likely Kaladin. This chant would seem to indicate that he supports Amaram against Dalinar. This might be the twist in WoR. There might even be a fight between Kaladin (a Windrunner) and Dalinar (a Bondsmith) and/or Adolin and/or Renarin (an unknown Radiant). What do u guys think??
  5. Wait, gemhearts are the result of a rift from the spiritual realm.... do we have WoB on this?? Bcoz if this is true, the gemhearts are in all probability the physical body of Honor or Cultivation...(earlier we had WoB that atium was a leak from the spiritual realm and that proved to be the physical body of Ruin)
  6. thanks for the upvote.......
  7. Thanxs..... i've made the necessary changes.
  8. I believe that all investiture in the cosmere involves the following things 1. They utilise the power of creation 2. They create a link with the cognitive realm (as proved by WoB that all users of Investiture can use worldhopping.) 3. Therefore, I conclude that the power of creation is in the Cognitive Realm. 4. All forms of Investitures crack/damage/involve the soul to some extent. (Surgebinding, allomancy, hemalurgy and awakening crack the soul. Read the back cover of WoR, Mistborn and the annotations for Warbreaker. So for those who argue the ethics of Hemalurgy, us shud consider the ethics of all Investiture. The only difference is the degree of damage. Also, Shardblades are said to slice the soul. ) 5. I have what I like to call a lock and key hypothesis to using Investiture. To use any Investiture, u need to have both its lock and key. (For Elantris, lock - region of birth and key - AonDor. For Warbreaker, lock - genetic?? or Innate colour?? and key - Breaths, For Mistborn, lock - genetic, Lerasium and key - metals. For Roshar, lock - spren and key - Stormlight) 6. All forms of Investiture in the planet must use the lock and key of their home planets. 7. Adonalsium is separate from the power of creation. It is more of an administrator to the power of creation. 8. Adonalsium and later, the Shards, exist primarily in the Spiritual Realm . (WoB that the atium was a neccessary leak between the spiritual realm and the physical realm. WoK by Lirin that the Almighty calls all men to the Spiritual Realm eventually. ) 9. All Shards can provide their own essence if necessary to provide the lock needed for usage of Investiture.(Mistborn - Lerasium is part of Preservation. Warbreaker - Returned get their Breath from Endowment.) 10. Next, I have what I like to call the WiFi hypothesis. All Shards are like supercomputers accessing the same WiFi i.e the power of Creation. However, creation of Splinters i.e home pc's weakens the efficiency of the Shards i.e supercomputers and affects their ability to access the power of Creation. Therefore Preservation and Ruin remain near equals in power because of no splinters while Honor and Cultivation are unable to stop Odium on their own because they have created too many Splinters. Therefore Splintering the Shards weakens their power immensely. Once Odium splinters all the Shards, he will be the lone supercomputer in parallel with a lot of desktop pc's, so he will be able to access nearly the entire power of Creation. 11. I believe that Investiture can neither be created nor destroyed similar to Law of Conservation of Energy. 12. I believe that an Investitural cycle exists with Investiture being gradually shuffled across the realms. (Mistborn - the power would have returned to the well) 13. Lift is able to use Stormlight because she exists partly in the Cognitive realm and can consume the Cognitive aspect of food. Similar to how we consume the physical aspect of food and gain energy, she consumes the cognitive aspect of food and gains the power of Creation. 14. Lift is therefore like a skeleton key since she can eat food on any planet. Lerasium, on the other hand, alters spirit webs (the lock) to suit the purposes of its user.(Mistborn is merely its default option.) Therefore Lift + Lerasium = AWESOME (I admit liking all powerful Lord Rulers!!!) Now, guys and gals, which points do you agree or disagree with?? Edit: C'mon people, comment a little..... It's really discouraging for a guy to make a theory, then find no one is interested in even discussing it. It's ok if u don't agree with it but, you know, just express your opinion.
  9. I am from Kerala, India, but presently in college in Maharashtra, also in India. U should have a poll attached with each continent as a choice, so that people can say where they are from.(I must admit I am curious too. I have seen a few fellow Indians here and there on 17S but I have no idea how many.)
  10. Let me give you my spoilery review of Words of Radiance. Dalinar is....... "AWESOME" and kicks Sadeas's butt. Kaladin is ......."AWESOME" and kicks Amaram and Sadeas's butt and fights Szeth. Shallan is...... "AWESOME" and has sad and exciting flashback scenes about her homicidal, power hungry father and...... seduces Renarin (here's to u Feather Writer). Jasnah is...... "AWESOME" and literally reduces guys to smoke and seduces Kaladin (Yay! My theory stands true.) Renarin is ......"AWESOME" and becomes a kick butt Surgebinder........ and kicks Voidbringer butt. Szeth multitasks and kills people while crying and listening to non existent screams...... and gets his butt kicked by Kaladin. Eshonai is....... "AWESOME" and kicks stuffy Alethi butt........ and begins courting the DARK SIDE OF THE FORCE. (But no there's no "Kaladin, I am your mother" scene yet. That comes in book 9.) Oh and by the way, Lift is AWESOMEST of all.
  11. I'd choose ............. Jasnah, maybe or Shallash(you know, if one wasn't like 14 yrs older and the other a few thousand )...... i tend to like the slightly more bitter characters, but with a stronger sense of morals and intellectual besides ....... I could pick Vin, but something just feels off about her......... too clingy perhaps ............ but then I've never dated anyone and I could be just spouting things out of my head........ might really hate them if I actually met them Not to mention what they would think about me???? I sense a really good counter topic....... Which brandon sanderson would date you?...... I mean, here we've been spouting names (making the big assumption that they would date us!!!).... What do you guys think?
  12. I loved your fanart....... it looks really superb....... i'm having trouble believing that you found it difficult to read the way of kings in english..... ur english seems to be pretty good.
  13. But you see, the point I was trying to make is that some of these 'popular' books are so full of plot holes, character holes and with a very weak story......I feel it's not fair to the really hardworking writers and not just Brandon, I might add, that such weak writers sell so amazingly well while far better sell far less. I admit this is my subjective viewpoint........ To prove my point, Christopher Paolini, for eg, writes around 350 words a day while Brandon writes 2500 - 3000 words a day. (I got their word counts from their interviews). The Eragon books are full of holes, in the magic system and plot, (despite writing so slowly) but he sells amazingly well anyway. That is just not fair to those who work so hard....... Not to mention, this sets poor precedents for the future...... Future writers might well think why they make so much effort and instead start writing poorly written hacks of Tolkien with dragons, dwarfs, elves and the same old story.........and sell atrociously well too, for their poor effort.........If any of u are in doubt, I request you to read the books Twilight, Fifty Shades of Grey or Eragon.
  14. This is a topic Ive been thinking about for a long time..... what makes a book sell??? I see great authors like Brandon Sanderson on the one hand who sell well enough but never achieve the literally astounding successes that useless claptrap authors like Christopher Paolini (the author of Eragon), Stephenie Mayer (Twilight) and EL James (Fifty Shades of Grey) achieve. These useless books with literally inaccurate content, poorly fleshed out characters and highly inconsistent magic systems (Im looking at you Eragon) literally have millions of millions of readers rooting for them, movies made on them etc while far better authors take years to achieve a little limelight. Brandon was first published in 2005 after he had written/partially written literally 7-8 books and was pretty much feeling pessimistic about the industry while Christopher Paolini is published in his first attempt and sells millions of books. Christopher hacked from the Lord of Rings, Star Wars and pretty much many books out there, his magic system is inconsistent with the rules he himself made, his battle scenes supremely inaccurate(look at antishurtugal.com for more details), his heroes are typical Gary Stu characters with pretty much perfect everything. Yet he sits on the same platform as Brandon, posing himself as a self alleged "Expert" on dragons in that convention.(Brandon has posted it on his site.) Stephenie Mayer's novels made me vomit...... I have no idea how i managed to read through the first one..... it could be summarized as "Oh Edward you look sexy, you have beautiful eyes, face, tall, sparkle in the sunlight (i'm not joking), possess infinite strength, immortal and everything else that some obsessed girl could possibly think of." The plot literally falls apart, and there are huge inconsistencies. The secondary characters have very little to nearly no role in the story of this poor, boy obsessed girl. You can understand how bad Fifty Shades of Grey is when you realise it is a rehashed version of a Twilight fanfic. Here she replaces vampires with very bad sex. The relationship is downright unhealthy with no semblance of a life outside sex. Also there are even rape scenes in Fifty Shades(Read this link http://www.crushable.com/2012/07/30/entertainment/fifty-shades-of-grey-sexual-assault-bdsm-603/) Other popular novels include Harry Potter, which i found to be good but not worthy of the insane popularity it received, The Hunger Games (tolerable) etc. To get back to the main topic, what quality in these books made these books sell???? Why does Brandon not sell as well???? Why have I never seen even one of Brandon's books in hard copy in my local bookstores or libraries(I live in India) while I find multiple copies of all of the above?????
  15. Can't wait...... i'll probably finish it on the first day itself.
  16. nice troll Scott..... ....... 1 upvote to u
  17. U do realise, don't u that Dalift would be a pedophile relationship, not to mention that Shallarinadoladinah would be an incestuous one......
  18. I cannot agree with ur first point. As I am a medical student myself, I simply cannot agree with ur statement that medicine is mere memorization and with no relation to academics. Such a statement is totally ridiculous. Also, Jasnah has repeatedly said many times, directly or indirectly, that she respects honourable people. U are right in saying that Kaladin wants to get revenge on Sadeas and Amaram, but and this is an important but, he believes in violence as a means of achieving peace, no matter how paradoxical it may seem. Jasnah makes a similar statement to Liss, the assassin, when she says, “Assassination is distasteful, Liss. So is cleaning out chamber pots. I can respect the one employed for such jobs without admiring the job itself.”. Again, she kills the robbers in Kharbranth without the slightest remorse, which Shallan finds abhorrent. Here I would like to point out that Kaladin and Jasnah are similar in their views, that although they would prefer peace, they are both ready to commit violence as a means of achieving peace. I admit both my statements about Jasnah's sexual abuse and her skill in music are speculative, but then isn't that the point of these threads, that we speculate about the content of WoR? Also, if u believe I am wrong, then please give me an alternative interpretation of these lines. Point about Kaladin's mistrust is acceptable to me. Now about the last point, I won't comment on all Radiants but about the Elsecallers, who control the surges of Transformation and Transportation, their millitary applications are obvious and numerous. Think about it, they can literally transform one substance to another substance, meaning barricades, barriers, walls, castles of any kind would provide no defence against them, they could literally reduce it to smoke. They would be far better and more efficient assassins than Szeth son son Vallano since they could easily transport themselves anywhere and take out only the intended target. If they can help transport others, as I suspect, then an order of Elsecallers could easily transport small armies behind enemy lines and cause havoc. They can help transport survivors, relay info instantly to commanders etc. If a Windrunner and an Elsecaller were to fight, both trained well, I suspect the Elsecaller would be far more likely to win, since what's to stop the Elsecaller from teleporting herself suddenly behind the Windrunner and taking him out with a simple knife? Kaladin himself admits, Please forgive me if my comments seem too aggressive, but I am a debater at heart and just cannot resist a good challenge. Also reasons why I do not agree with Shallan/ Kaladin pairing. 1. Shallan and Syl are too similar. To a reader, it would be nightmarish reading, with both of them cracking similar jokes and laughing about. 2. Shallan once thinks This, I believe indicates a near definite pairing with Adolin or Renarin. 3.Shallan is too emotionally immature when compared to Jasnah or Kaladin. She has lived a far more sheltered life and despite her horrific experiences, she seems slightly naive (perhaps I am using the wrong word here) and trusting.
  19. I find it frustrating that so few people are recommending kaladin/jasnah pairing. To me, it seems nearly certain, age difference not withstanding. Here are my reasons. Jasnah loves academics, she goes so far as to say that one of the only times she actually connected with her father was when he was researching the parshendi. And Kaladin is an academic, a surgeon in training. Next reason, she really likes (perhaps I am using the wrong word here)/ looks up to honourable people. She clearly tells Shallan not to insult Taravangian, Bcoz she believes him to be as honourable as Dalinar. And Kaladin is certainly honourable. She is clearly disturbed in another comment about the present trend of encouraging warriors over those who bring peace to their nations. Kaladin is the character in the Stormlight archives who loves peace the most. Then I have subtler reasons, if u remember this comment by Shallan after Jasnah soul cast those robbers in Kharbranth. Jasnah says "Besides, men like those......" . Shallan thinks in horror " What was done to you? And who did it? " ( if any admins can insert the proper quotes here,I would be thankful. I don' t know how to insert quotes from the book). I believe this is hinting at some severe abuse, perhaps sexual abuse suffered by Jasnah in her childhood. Perhaps this is in part the reason for Jasnah being single for so long. Then Kaladin is a good guy and can disabuse Jasnah of her wrong notions about men. Now let me list Kaladin's reasons. Kaladin is severely distrustful of light eyes. Jasnah can disabuse him of his wrong notions. Then, Hoid has given him a flute and asks him to learn it. But in Vorin society, the only one who can teach him is a woman. Here note that initially when Jasnah was testing Shallan, she tests her in MUSIC BUT NOT DRAWING, although both are of the feminine arts and she comments," the visual arts are frivolity". This would mean she does not consider music frivolous, perhaps Jasnah is secretly highly talented in music as Shallan in drawing. She can teach Kaladin the flute. Also if Jasnah has to become a Radiant, she needs to know how to fight and among a conservative Vorin light eyed society, Kaladin is probably the only one who will agree to teach her the art of war. (Both Dalinar and adolin are shown as highly skeptical of women in the battlefield). I rest my case.
  20. I can't agree with this statement. If you think about it, not one of Mr Sanderson's cosmere novels features a main POV character without some form of investiture. Also, Vin kills 400 people in a single night with Zane's help, Kaladin fights an entire Parshendi army singlehandedly, and Shardbearers kill 100s of people in a war. A normal person would find it near impossible to defeat them no matter what they did. But then how would it be decided which Investiture of local planet the final result would be? Also note, other than Selish Investitures, none of the others are that regional, they can practically be used anywhere. The important thing to note here is that partial storage is still very much possible. Also note, alloys like Duralumin have no application on their own and are only useful with other abilities. The difference here between duralumin and nicrosil is that duralumin provides the sum of stored allomancy in a near instant while nicrosil actually stores allomancy, thus making it possible for a twinborn/ lord ruler type allomancer to boost their abilities temporarily way beyond the sum. Also the individual can adjust and change the duration of use. This theory would also concur with the mistborn RPG, where nicrosil is shown to have a duralumin like effect.
  21. Here is my theory Alloy of Law Ars Arcanum clearly states that Nicrosil stores Investiture. But the form of this storage has not been clarified by Brandon. Nor have any indications been given to what Nicrosil exactly does. I have a theory and I think it is a pretty good one. I believe it works like a coppermind. A coppermind stores memories, so does Nicrosil store Investitures. The investiture can be stored for later use. Now the applications of Nicrosil are then mindboggling, if u think about it. Since nicrosil stores Investiture, so it can store any (and I do mean any!) type of Investiture. This can easily be a means of storing any form of Allomancy, Feruchemy, Breath, Stormlight, Surgebinding, Voidbinding, Forging etc. Next, a Lord Ruler type Individual can then Compound nearly any Allomancy or Feruchemy. Steps to do this: Store 50% of said ability whether allomancy or feruchemy Burn nicrosil used for the feruchemy U get 500% the original ability temporarily. Finally, consider the implications for a Worldhopper We have WoB that it is not possible for a person to possess two or more forms of Surgebinding at the same time. I suspect the reason has to do with Investitural density, that there is only so much Investiture that one can hold. But suppose the person stored said ability entirely within nicrosil, then stored other abilities in other nicrosil bracelets. Then a person could tap into whatever Investiture he wished at will, effectively creating a Lord Ruler like Radiant. Add voidbinding and other forms of Investiture to the mix, you could effectively create some sort of all powerful Investiturist. Interestingly, Hoid is known to wield lightweaving, and suspected of possessing feruchemy and breath. He is known to possess a bead of Lerasium. Probably he has other Investitures as well (some sort of time dilation method, immortality). Maybe he's used some such method??? What do you guys think?
  22. Some people have mentioned comics/manga/graphic novels as a suitable medium. I have added it as an option to the poll.
  23. thnxs for the support, Inkthinker........ I also proposed the anime format because of the same reasons. 1 upvote to u.
