  1. Right, but I assume he is juggling like a mad man if he is going to get the next one out around a year later. Consider how big the book will be (I think we can safely assume over 700 pages) as well as the gap in time required to get WoR out (We have 2 months to go and he has been redrafting and editing for at least 2 months). Consider that if he is turning Firefight in at the end of the month and only finished editing his WoR drafts recently.... he was definitely writing both at the same time. I just wonder if his SA3 work was outlining or writing or just fact checking with his team.
  2. I would like to propose a theory... We have a group of individuals that are directly involved with living after death: the Heralds. What if the death chants are a window into the minds of the Heralds, or something like that? I only thought of this after thinking on this thread for a while. This was the quote in question: “All is withdrawn for me. I stand against the one who saved my life. I protect the one who killed my promises. I raise my hand. The storm responds.” The Heralds clearly all have a screw loose now, which was my reasoning for considering them for this quote. It would make sense if it was connected to someone who had recently experienced a paradigm shift of sorts. My first thought was that this was a quote from one of the Heralds relating to the Shards on Roshar, so I kind of built on that. "All is withdrawn from me." could be talking about his powers or whatever changed when he gave up his blade and broke his oath. "I stand against the one who saved my life." He has a history with Honor, which we assume started off pretty well considering Jezrien is a Herald. "I protect the one who killed my promises." The Oathpact is the biggest promise I can think of, and that thing was butchered. If Odium was responsible for that dissolving - pretty likely - this would make sense considering the Heralds' erratic behavior. "I raise my hand. The storm responds." The Heralds may have had the power to control the storms or it may be figurative, but I think most users here have taken the stance that it is set to mean either control of highstorms or control of Stormlight, both of which are believed to be possible by at least one Herald. This death chant is clearly from the mind of Taln, no? “The burdens of nine become mine. Why must I carry the madness of them all? Oh, Almighty, release me.” I think this one is obviously about Shallash as well. She is the daughter of Jezrien and we think we see her scratching out her own image. I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere... “A woman sits and scratches out her own eyes. Daughter of kings and winds, the vandal.” As a continuation, it may be that the images on the arches represent the Herald speaking, or the audience of the quote (in addition to those that may appear in the chapter or other causes). Was going to post some of this in the thread linked above, but it got so long and off track, I figured I would be jacking thread a bit xD Any thoughts?
  3. If he is changing titles, is that a hint that he is already writing that book? I guess I didn't consider it, but is going to try to release one a year or increase the pace, he probably has already started.
  4. Yikes, sounds like Malazan is.... a task. Maybe what I'll do is start that after WoR. I tried it yesterday, and the audiobook is not at all for background absorption. So I'll pick one of the shorter series or something. Thanks guys.
  5. I love the characters, and I'm really interested in seeing how they progress on both individual and group levels (Kohlin family, KR, etc.), but my main concern is the world building stuff. I want to know how everything works. Bad.
  6. Good point. We've also seen (what we think to be) Cultivation's work labelled as Voidbinding in the Lift interlude. It was mentioned there too.
  7. It's not written in stone that surgebinding via honor chart and cultivation chart would be distinguishable in this way. Brandon said their are different ways of accessing the magic, but the 10 circles on each could line up where the orders are represented on both. There are a ton of ways it could be interpreted considering we have 0 known facts on that "Cultivation/Voidbinding/Animal/Spren" chart.
  8. Glad someone else is as interested in this topic as I am There are so many clues just in the artwork of the pages that suggest it is an overlap of sorts, but Cultivation's version. My problem is that I have no idea what voidbinding is. It could mean anything. That chart could be a voidbinding chart, and behave in that overlap way. Maybe voidbinding is just surgebinding via Cultivation's method. Maybe it is different terminology for soulcasting? Hard to guess.
  9. Moogle, you are excellent at many things so far as I have seen, but you are right, analogies are not one of them. As has been said, killing the head of a nation while pretending to establish a peace treaty is an act of war. The Parshendii acknowledge the war and accept it. In your scenario: The bully's friends would be the people who gave the bully the right to lead by allowing them a leadership position. They accept certain responsibilities too. Also, the parshmen were working as laborers far before the assassination of Gavilar. It doesn't even tie in. The soldiers that fight and die on the Alethi side do so intentionally. It is pretty much a theme that Alethi soldiers are all aboard for this movement and their would be problems if anybody suggested it was better not to keep fighting. You are trying to take a global, political situation and turn it into something personal.
  10. Also, the scenario that jumped into my head with the engagement went something like this: - Shallan takes woman lessons from Jasnah and tries them out on Adolin. - Adolin is not a fan. - Shallan confides in Renarin when she is in distress over it. - Renarin likes what he sees. Of course, I only even put Renarin and Shallan together because some nutty people on this forum want it so desperately ( ). It doesn't really matter to me what happens, but I'd also like to throw in my vote in hoping it doesn't take up too much content. Just in case anyone is counting....
  11. I like the idea of a hulk smash moment where he propels things away from him. The dust settles.... *this snapshot*
  12. Precisely my point. If they are to view themselves as responsible for their individual actions, you should too. Rah rah was not the only factor in that scenario, and I think if you know someone will act a certain way in response to your actions, you are partially responsible if you take those actions. Same reason we don't feel bad for people who antagonize or egg others on if their is a response: they see it coming and proceed regardless.
  13. My guess is that she faced a similar situation and it didn't go so well. It is so cute, the master and the apprentice teaching each other.
  14. Could be argued that rah rah revenge is a natural reaction to the assassination of a nation's king, and that the assassination is the actual cause... fiasco could easily have been avoided if not for that pesky assassination thing.
  15. Haven't seen that yet. PERFECT. Very excited for prologues now.
  16. I got through the third I think. Then sputtered out within 200 pages of the fourth.
  17. I really hope that feast scene is a constant in the prologues, and each time we see it from a different view until - in the fifth book I suppose- we get a big answer from... maybe Gavilar's perspective? One can only hope.
  18. Thanks Argent, my day just got so much better.
  19. At the end of Steelheart I did not think we would find a need for her weakness. She is really skilled with illusions and can reincarnate. I think that the goal is going to be to get her back on the team instead of killing her. I don't think David is going to want to kill her no matter what, so I don't see it happening. I think they are going to maybe kill her once or twice and kinda brainwash her through conversation or by creating a false video and putting that in her camera so that she is convinced to roll with them. It shouldn't really take much false video, but apparently she isn't exactly cool with them even after all the ending of Steelheart, so we'll see. I can't really see her controlling the city for any reason, so not sure how this will all work.
  20. 3) I also don't think he has a spren, but would like to know where the WoB is that says there are no spren in Shinovar. We know spren can only be seen.... sometimes... and by certain people at that. It is equally possible that spren can't be seen in Shinovar as it is for them to not be there all together. 4) Good explanation- thought I'd give props. 5) Semantics.
  21. Thanks guys, I think Tigana and Earthsea sound like a good fits for me, so I'm going to see how fast I can read Tigana, and then start on Earthsea if I think I can finish it before WoR (I bet I can). Appreciate the help!
  22. I thought the same as OP eventually, but at first I didn't think intent was concrete enough to be a weakness. Then, after hearing the "attracted to you" weakness and some of the wilder weaknesses were explained, I went back to that theory. Really thought we were going to be right after the whole "believer, non-believer" conversations.
  23. I'll try to make this quick -- I need a book recommendation (or multiple) to hold me over until Words of Radiance comes out. Preferably one that has an audiobook version. Recently I have read: Fantasy: Almost all Brandon stories, Kingkiller Chronicle, LOTR and Hobbit, Wheel of Time, The Host (long story...). In the past I have tried Jim Butcher... the story about the wizard detective guy, but I didn't really like it. Action/Adventure: Lots of Matthew Reilly, love it. SciFi: Pretty much just Enders series, but love it. So there is a bit of a taste profile for me recently if anyone feels like taking a shot at it. I'd really appreciate any help. Someone recommended Malazan, and I might give that a shot, but it is pretty long, so I'd also appreciate some reviews of it before I decide if I want to get moving on it. Thanks!
  24. Wow. This needs to be added to the long (LONG) term "I told you so" list.
  25. haha, no problem. I think I remember that now. That connects much better than I thought. It is a pretty brief quote to grab a title from (compared to the name of the wind) but a good one.
