It could be that certain gemstones are more attuned to a certain essence, which makes it easier to use them to Soulcast something, however any stone can be used, just with a larger drain on the Stormlight in that stone which makes it easier for that stone to crack under the strain of Soulcasting.

Maybe Syl can transform Investiture into intelligence, but cant actually directly obtain investiture, however she can grant another the ability to obtain/use Investiture so long as the follow the precepts, so when Kaladin broke his Oaths he lost his ability to use Stromlight, so Syl could no longer create intelligence with Investiture because she had none to use unless she was right next to Kaladin at which point he could slightly Invest so she could then create intelligence.

It would be really inconvenient for Squires to lose their powers mid-battle due to their Radiant dying, odds are that they would be pretty reliant on their Stormlight and losing it in the middle of a fight would, at the very least, put them off balance. A lot of them would probably die on the spot from the sudden disorientation because enemies would jump on their momentary lapse. Also, side note, do you think a Squire could wield a dead Shardblade without the screams, because the link between them and their Radiant/Order/whatever it is their bonded to, might extend enough that they could hear them, or do you think they would be fine?
-
So, we know that Squires get their abilities to to a closeness or connection with a KR who is capable of granting them Squiredom, but can they lose it? I think that they obviously could, but how? If they no longer are close to the KR who originally granted them Squiredom they probably would lose it, but is the closeness just a matter of cognitive perception, or is their also a physical limitation of distance to it? At the end of WoR Kaladin seems to be about to fly off and save his family i believe. So if this takes him too long will all of his Squires lose their ability to use Stormlight or will it just continue as normal? It would make sense in a way that they must be physically near them to use their abilities, atleast to a certain extent. I know Lopen was using Stormlight back in the camp to heal his arm while Kaladin was battling on the Shattered Plains, but maybe this was just close enough for him to do so. Besides distance and a loss of closeness with a KR i think their must be some other ways to lose Squiredom, like do you have to uphold the general ideas of the Order that you have your abilities from in order to use Stormlight? Not in the same sense that an actual KR would, but in a lower tier, must you atleast try your best to uphold the Windrunners honor in order to be a Windrunners Squire, or can you do whatever you want so long as you are close to a Windrunner in a way that grants you Squiredom? This is kind of a rant, however i feel that these are legitimate questions about Squiredom. Let me know what you think.

Spren that Axies havent 'captured' yet
Localconfusi0n replied to Tj3na's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well i doubt he has seen any spren that are capable of creating a Nahel bond, or if he has he probably misclassifies them, i.e. Honorspren as Windspren -
Plus, with the whole Eshonai taking Stormform first, she actually wasnt. In one of Eshonai's chapters she and her sister had a conversation that was something along the lines ofEshonai: blaw blaw blaw Her sister: blaw blaw blaw Eshonai: oh youve already been in Stormform havent you? Her sister: Smile. So I think its safe to say her sister is a coniving bitch that really just needed someone more convincing to sell the whole Stormform thing, so she went back to scholar form and told her sister knowing full well that Eshonai's general stance and attitude about things would drive her to take on Stromform and become a driving force to initiate every Parshendi into it.

Why (I think) that Kaladin is a better hero than Dalinar
Localconfusi0n replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
About the whole "Kaladin becoming Odiums champion" thing, it could work out fairly easily and with Kaladin coming through with his Surgebinding wholely intact. All his Windrunner oaths deal with protecting, well none of them said who he must protect in a detailed way, i.e. the human race, squids, the rabid raccoon in my back yard, he could just switch allegiance to the Parshendi and protect them instead. Also, while Syl probably wouldnt approve of this, as a Spren her identity is defined by human perception, wouldnt it make sense that Kaladins perception of her would affect her more? So she could become entirely alright with Kaladins choice, or, even if she's not, she might only be able to break the bond if Kaladin breaks his oaths, which could switch. -
I know Brandon constantly says belief is a huge factor in magic systems, but a Shardblade is a pretty devistating wound, and maybe it can only be healed in certain situations, such as when it is an Honorblade cut rather than a Shardblade cut. I know there isnt a huge distinction between Honorblades and Shardblades, however ther is bound tp be some differences since the Spren just copied the Honorblades. All I'm saying is that its possible that being able to heal from one and not the other might be one such difference.
-
I actually really like that theory, and it kind of makes sense as Brandon has repeatedly stated that your belief about yourself and such things as that affect a magic system a lot. I still kind of hope that all Radiants can do it though as that would be an extreme benefit to the KR.
-
I think that this is what i was refering to, but it could have been another quote. I see when Brandon says there are very big but subtle discrepancies between what szeth does and what kaladin does as him refering to the difference between their powers, i.e. kaladin having a Nahel bond and szeth having an Honorblade. Or it could be as hoser suggested and Heralds/Honorblade wielders cannot heal from Shardblade/Honorblade wounds.
-
So, we all know that Kaladin healed from being cut with a Honorblade, but does that mean he can also heal from a cut by a regular Shardblade or that since an Honorblade is different he can only heal from that? I think that I remember reading a WoB that could be interpretted to mean that he cant heal from a regular Shardblade cut, but I might be interrpretting it wrong or maybe i didnt actually read that. So any ideas?

Pattern will have a feild day with the Diagram
Localconfusi0n replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well it kind of depends on whether or not it realy is a pattern, i mean sure Mr.T developed a new language and whatnot but just because his super enhanced brain can build a language from the bottom on up doesnt necessarily mean it has any legitimate grammatical structure, only that in some abstract way that it made sense to him. I know there was mention of a key that Mr.T wrote on the Diagram, so Pattern could probably decode it, however Mr.T was operating on such a high level of intelligence that it might take someone of equally high intelligence to improve or correct the Diagram. I guess at this point I'm conceding that Pattern can read it, but how would he be able to change it? The Diagram doesnt really have all the evidence that is needed in order for someone to be able to guess upon human behaviors, that all came from Mr.T himself, so without the requisite knowledge of human behavior, which Pattern obviously lacks, no further deductions can be made. -
Theory: The Stonewards went into hiding
Localconfusi0n replied to Galavantes's topic in Stormlight Archive
Also, it isnt specifically stated that every single member of the orders betrayed their oaths, yes, 1 entire order probably remained true, but that doesnt exclude members of other orders from also remaining true, just not in large numbers. -
Navani a Skybreaker theory, warning spoilers
Localconfusi0n replied to bobsaveg's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, she was kind of saying that in a depressed sort of way like, "Its all they think I can be, but I am so much more" and if you look at her conversations about fabrials its obvious she knows her stuff, especially if you include her diagrams and notes throughout both books. She definitely knows what shes talking about when it comes to fabrials, so she is, or should be, more than just a financial backer. -
Syl: "But I've helped men kill before."
Localconfusi0n replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
Also, when does either WoK or WoR specifically say that every single KR broke their oaths. Isnt it possible that a few remained true to them and as such their spren survived wholely intact? And, kinda unrelated, but i remember that in the Diagram there was something about making sure the new KR knew why the old KR broke their oaths, this could be kinda important because they must of had a really solid reason for murdering their closest friends, just sayin. -
[Theory] Taln isn't Taln, Taln is...
Localconfusi0n replied to Wysawyg's topic in Stormlight Archive
I personally like this theory, however, wouldnt a Herald without their Honorblade lose their abilities, i.e. surgebinding, quickness, etc. So when "Taln" caught the Shardblade he must have really caught it. But how can he still have his super-natural quickness without his blade? -
Lift thought the 2nd ideal of the Edgedancers?
Localconfusi0n replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in Stormlight Archive
This makes sense to me. It seems like the ideals just kinda float into yourmind and so I assume its in order, plus when Kaladin says the 2nd ideal isnt it specifically stated as the 2nd ideal? -
i didnt look to see if anyone already pointed this out, but I think that Lift thought the 2nd ideal of the Edgedancers "I will remember those that have been forgotten". Seems pretty legit to me, but do you think she's spoken the 1st ideal or what?

I know this is probably wrong, but i have a theory that the Dawnshards spawn the Plate and Blade. The name Dawnshards implies that they came first, in the begining. So wouldn't it make sense that, after an aspiring KR says their final oath that they, in ancient times, went to the Dawnshard(s) and BAM they had Plate and Blade instantly made? We see that as Syl stays with Kaladin she slowly regains her memories, she specifically said that if they lsoe eachother she loses her memories too. So I feel like she will finally gain the last piece of the puzzle, the making of Plate and Blade, when Kaladin speaks his last oath. If someone has come up with this idea previosly I'm sorry otherwise let me know what you think.

I feel like cultivation plays a large role in the Plate but as for the blade i feel like it isnt cultivated, though how it is made i dont know or have any guesses that havent already been guessed

Theory: The Dawnshards were musical instruments
Localconfusi0n replied to skaa's topic in Stormlight Archive
im probably wrong, but i think the dawnshards are or were the shards that were wielded by the heralds -
Im pretty sure i remember something being said about 2 spren being "attached" to each of the orders of the KR, but i could be wrong, if so wouldnt it make sense that each order has a slightly different skill set, and its possible that an undiscovered spren couls cause the making of the shardspear i keep hearing about? Im just saying all this because i have seen repeated posts of honor spren being the ones who create the bond, when in reality there are multiple spren who can, such as Shallan's spren. Just sayin.
