  1. At the moment I'm not 100% convinced that Shallan has formed a Nahel bond. We know that Szeth is somehow capable of surgebinding without having bonded with a spren. Also, Brandon has never confirmed that the Cryptics are in fact spren. Yes, I know Jasnah believes them to be spren, but I've read enough Steven Erikson books to be familiar with characters who state something as fact turning out to be dead wrong. Brandon himself has never confirmed this, and has been very reluctant to give any hint about it. He refers to them as Cryptics and not Truthspren, as some readers have referred to them. So I'm really withholding judgement on this for the moment, but I'm looking forward to Words of Radiance which will hopefully give us more on Shallan, what her powers are and whether she is on the path to becoming a KR.
  2. Thanks Windrunner. It's good to know I'm not the only one who thought that. I'd also forgotten at the time that Hoid appears in Mistborn and Warbreaker as well. I've just realised I told a little lie in that post - I haven't read ALL the cosmere books, I haven't had the chance to read Alloy of Law yet.
  3. Hi, I've just signed up today although I've lurked a little bit since I first found out about the whole cosmere concept. Needless to say that just blew my mind when I read that! I'd already read all the cosmere books, and was a bit stunned when I realised they were all connected in this way. I HAD noticed the presence of Hoid in both Elantris and tWoK, but I dismissed it as him being lazy and recycling a character name! (that's terribly embarrassing to admit) I think my favourite of the cosmere books is tWoK, although I did love Mistborn a lot as well. I was less keen on Warbreaker, it just didn't resonate with me as much as the others. I like a few other fantasy books - I quite like Patrick Rothfuss (although his books didn't quite blow me away, they were were quite enjoyable) and I liked Scott Lynch, but my favourite for many years has been Steven Erikson. I love Malaz! I think Brandon Sanderson has probably stolen the 'favourite fantasy author' spot in my heart though.
  4. Hey, I'm new here so forgive me if I don't do quotes properly!. I'm just posting as I see the idea that Urithiru may have been in the skies above the Shattered Plains has been bandied about. This can't be the case as the epigraph at the start of chapter 35 reads: 'Though many wished Urithiru to be built in Alethela, it was obvious that it could not be. And so it was that we asked for it to be placed westward, in the place nearest to Honor' As the Shattered Plains are at the far eastern side of the continent, Urithiru wasn't there. My guess is that perhaps it was near Shinovar, perhaps in the mountain range there. I'm quite prepared to hear that I'm guessing wrong though! On a separate note, the reading about Shallan has me properly confused, I have no theories whatsoever about it, just lots and lots of questions!
