I do Taekwondo. I'm Korean, and basically all the guys in my family have a black belt or better. It's great for kicking form and self-discipline, but not for self defense. I learned jiujitsu and kickboxing to develop a viable MMA fighting style. TKD is great for doing pretty kicks and breaking bricks, but I needed to learn some other things in order to be able to actually spar against other people outside of TKD. The punching and grappling specifically are pretty neglected, but you get flexible and fast, along with some elite footwork.

I'll do that. Have the smarter members of the group try to determine why the temperature is the way it is, and continue on chartered path.- 42 replies

I would agree if not for the fact that Nightblood seperated a vessel from a shard, and Ishar could do incredible things. Maybe Taln above Rashek though. What's WoB?

Here's my two cents. I'm ranking this one based on, because this is the Cosmere, ability to affect the Cosmere, and general fighting ability and capability in handling situations. I'm also excluding Shards, but anything that can fight a shard with reasonable struggle shoots up just because of that. I'll also have tiers. Tier 1: Cosmere Altering 1. Nightblood. It killed a god. It eats Investiture. It rends the connection in all three realms-a sort of anti-perpendicularity. Sheathed, it does better than a normal sword. The evolution of the shardblade into something monstrous. 2. Ishar. Honor referred to him as knowing more about divinity than himself, a piece of divinity. He forged (twice!) a work of investiture and intent so strong it defied the most deadly shard (by record) and then two shards, intents aligned seeking to reabsorb itself. He stood in the way of a piece of Adolanisium trying to take back its investiture. In terms of persuasive ability, knowledge, and his expanded/unleashed Bondsmith and Herald abilities, no one comes close. 3. Lord Ruler. We never saw him actually use the extent of his abilities, and Preservation's power had to intervene-not to kill him, just to remove his deathlessness. He was beaten, not killed, by a literal act of God. By surprise. I think the power of compounding anything, plus the ability to allomantically burn any god metal, makes him unbeatable in the realm of mortals and combat. You can't hide from him, and the best way to beat him? You best pray you have some aluminum, although with pewter compounding and gold compounding he could punch his way through anything. He can steal investiture, he can store it, he can literally destroy it. The limits of spiritual feruchemacy haven't been explored yet. Like Ishar, his powers are a wild card, but the conservative theoretic abilities are immense. Tier 2: System/Planet Altering. 4. Taln. This is more of his force of will then anything. Remember, we thought he broke after four and a half millenia, but it turns out someone else came back, fought for a decade, then broke before he did. He killed hundreds of fused with his bare hands. 5. Marsh Era 2. Same as Rashek, but not quite as powerful due to hemalurgic decline. He is more vulnerable because of the spikes, but again, force of god required to kill him. However, his experience and fighting ability, as well as skill with A-bronze makes him deadly. 6. The God King of Hallandren (alt. Wartlover the Ugly or any other 10th heightening Awakener with centuries of experience). Another one where the upper limits of Awakening are unknown. Also, the power to awaken minions to fight for you is serious stuff, especially with a Type IV entity. 7. Riina. Cruel, magical, and powerful. Mastery over essences, awakening, spores, and, most importantly, she can use the Dor on other planets. 8. Hoid/Sigzil. Hard ranking Hoid this low, but his burden definitely limits him. Don't see anything but a lucky Lord Ruler or Nightblood wielder being able to kill him. Sigzil is similar, where his combat is not great but I don't think he can be killed with the Dawnshard and his unique skill set. 9. Any Dragon with Investiture. The skill, experience, and magical mastery would make them very, very dangerous, especially as we haven't seen them engage yet are begged by Shards to pick sides. 10. Bands of Mourning. Power of the fullborn. Only reason it's this low is because everyone above is immortal or close. 11. 5th Ideal Radiant. Should be 7 or 8 for pure power, but the limitations like Oaths and Spren keep it this low. Also, with these others they could theoretically go whichever way they want, but I'd imagine the Roshar limits and Retribution make them weaker/more bound. Tier 3: Highly Invested 12. Yoki-Hijo/Elantrian. Highly invested, unknown limits to Yoki-Hijo power. Both are definitely world changing. 13. Elend/Praxton/Raoden (Masters/Unnaturally powerful). Anyone who is skilled or unnaturally powerful yet still having *human* biology. 14. Mistborn, Full Feruchemist, Compounder, 1st-4th Ideal Radiants, Talented Twinborn, Fused 15. Shai, Twinborn Tier 4: Non Invested 16. Blackthorn 17. Kiin I've waxed poetic enough. There are many others that could go, and the rankings could probably be changed, but accounting for individual ability, fighting prowess, magical power, and mental strength, I feel it works pretty well.

Planetfall: The Civilization Roleplay
Shard of Sharks replied to Negative_Null's topic in Roleplaying
The Dosuli leadership is in a panic. The literati sections, against the wills of the military and Lee decide to occupy, reinforce, and develop the land that they currently hold-four mountains flush with meadows, terraced land, and the valley in between. The whole of the populace is ordered to hold this area. The military leadership, however, is deeply worried about the missing scouts. In order to remedy this, an expedition of about 150 soldiers is sent to the other side of the southernmost mountain, to gather intel on the flatlands and tundra south.- 42 replies

Action 1: Lee Daeyan and the military leaders survey the mountains. Although similar to their homeland, the many rocks, valleys, and peaks represent a whole new defensive conundrum. The leadership determines that scouting the surrounding peaks is a top priority, and he sends the fastest tiger-marks and the gliding magpie-marks (I'll come up with better names) to scout the land, with a priority on creating a map of the various passes, finding magically favorable locations, the nature of the different types of rock, any potential hazards from animals or events, and to find growing land. Action 2: He then meets with the Literati-mostly the healers and astronomers, but also the singular Dragon Mark that can judge magical concentrations, and he tasks them with understanding how the land and planet will affect the powers of the people. Here's a recap of the magic- 42 replies

I really like the inverse choose your own adventure. I think your character for the guy in the great beyond is really intriguing as well. I think the contrast between the drama surrounding the ring and the casualness of the ghost guy really added to engaging the reader. I also liked the idea of a afterlife captcha. One thing, however, is I think that the ghost guy is a bit of a trope. I understand that's not the main part of the story, but I thing the alternate endings would be more interesting if he had more personality.

Watching Chasing Mavericks. Not sure how much y'all will like it, but give it a try. Absolute cinematic and storytelling masterpiece.

I feel like Cultivation and Endowment would end up acting like Dominion.
-
That's horrific. The worst I have is a test the week after break.

I'm gonna be a sophomore. Public school. And yes, definitely will be using and abusing this during certain classes. Funny I keep following you into everything. I swear it's not on purpose.

Iron-Cadmium. being able to stay underwater and follow ships/submarines? Either scrap divers or commandos, but I think this would be sick.

Soulstamping and Awakening. It's hard not to say F-A though.

Ok. Here we go. I loved Clay's character so I'll go Mudwing. (I know, boring.) And for hybrid, for cannonical I'll go Ice/Sea, for anything I'll go Sky/Ice because I'm curious what that'll look like.

Top 10 movie line. I have a funny answer and an actual answer. Funny is obviously autonomy and dominion, actual one is cultivation and endowment, mostly for the magic. I loooove dragons. Bought the entire wings of fire series as my first owned books. In terms of theories, I have oodles that are a little unrefined but very out there.

Definitely F-Cadmium and A-Iron. I like the idea of a Navy Seal type ship attacking commando, and I think the idea is underused.

I’d prefer the ones on the southeast island, but if someone else wants that the pole continent is good too. Thanks!- 65 replies

Planetfall: a civilization RP (SIGN UPS!)
Shard of Sharks replied to Negative_Null's topic in Roleplaying
Hey guys, new member but this looks like a ton of fun. Please lmk if I'm doing anything wrong. I know about double posting, and my parents did teach me basic human kindness, but besides that I don't know much of the etiquette of this forum. Here's my entry for the RP. Dosuli Nation's Origin: Scientific/Militaristic Expedition. The only people who survived were soldiers, literati, and engineers/scientists so they are excellent at math, science, and have excellent eyesight. Also very poetic, bordering on melodramatic. National Colors: Red, White, Yellow National Government: A meritocracy focused around an examination, a physical survival test, and aptitude tests to determine government department and/or job in life. Leadership is a council led by someone with particular proven policy/diplomacy acumen to be a face of the nation to the populace and outside. However, the emphasis on meritocracy is leading to a growing gulf between those who have networks and means to provide better for their children's success and those who don't. Also, nationally recognized poets, philosophers, and monks have particular say in the government and commonly oppose the policymakers, generals, and shamans, although any actions taken against national interests are generally frowned upon. Faith and Beliefs: Shamanic beliefs that are connected to the magic, strong focus on harmonizing with others and a connection to the land, to the extent that portions of the land are abandoned due to perceived weakness of the land. (Read: Geomancy) Nation's Ruler: Lee Daeyan: A once-in-a-lifetime candidate, he is 27 years old with a lineage that stretches back millennia and includes such notable figures as dragons, kings, and the greatest shamans and generals of all time. He is more pragmatic than the dreamers and poets who accompany him, but has an almost magical allure that causes him to be a natural leader. He was selected by the council to succeed his mother, an amazing woman of great accomplishments but very mortal lineage, right before the ship crashed and all but he and the gunners, engineers, and literati he lead to crash. However, like many of his people, he is headstrong, traditional, and has a memory as old as the mountains. Nation's Primary Race(s): They call themselves the Goraeng. Human in every other way, they each have a natural mark of a tiger, shark, magpie, or rarely, a dragon, that connects to their powers, personality, and other things. These connotations have started to lead to class-based discrimination, although the current population is too weary and has too many other problems for that to be an issue. Tend to be about 5'10" to 6'2", lithe and light or bulkier and tan reflecting ethnic differences from the homeworld. Because of the particular group that crashed, predisposition to good eyesight and a mind for numbers or letters. Nation's Total Population: Small, very small, around 15000 based on previous answers. Could change. About 10-40-35-25-10 split by age group. Magic: Magic is related to a variety of factors. The first is location and stars. The auspiciousness (for lack of a better word) of the stars and date one is born under is very important. (Think zodiac). In addition, the properties of one's location of birth (cardinal direction, shelter, terrain, season, weather) also affect affinities. Magic is in two forms: slight physical enhancements that could range from above-average stamina to gills and claws, and rarely, elemental abilities. The second is the tatoo I mentioned. Tiger marks are more aggressive, associated with fire, and have either natural enhancements like speed or fire/heat related abilities. Sharks are, of course, associated with water, strength, healing and dominance, and as such these people are natural leaders of all kinds, and powers range from better swimming, stamina, and awareness to one rare individual with a Katara-like power to heal with water. Magpies are mountains, plains, and the air. Free spirited, playful, and dutiful, magpie marks can be agile, have incredible senses, and some can even float. Dragon marks, of which there are currently only a handful are associated with weather and astronomical events, and their powers are incredible, like the ability to manipulate weather, create better conditions for a child's birth, or influence others. Percentage of dragon marks is up to Null's rebalancing. Tech: In terms of tech, very high tech and innovative, somewhat contradictory to their traditionalism in every other way. They have an emphasis on things that go boom from behind walls. Think modern-ish era. They have some things, like advanced ballistics, radar, and sonar, but not others, like fourth-generation fighters or even modern tanks. Probably cold war without the nukes. Spacefaring came from Lee Dayan's mother, who possessed an extraordinary gift to slightly manipulate the gravity of nearby (5-10 light years) stars. However, it has been lost with her death. Other information: If I could have those southeastern or southern mountains that would be great, thanks. Also, they try hard to be respectful, but under certain circumstances will lighten up or lose it. In other words, completely predictable until they go 0-100.- 65 replies
