Should Dalinar not have become a Fused?
OverlordBob999 replied to OverlordBob999's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh I see. Thank you -
So, while rereading the RoW, I thought that Dalinar should have become a Fused because that is what the contract that he made with Odium explicitly stated. however, as we know, Retribution was unable to claim his soul as it faded into the Beyond, and he was left instead with the Blackthorn spren. Am I incorrect here? Is it stated why this happened?

I think that its reactivity is a specific result of the instability of Harmony, but it makes sense to me, both lore-wise and mechanically, that any multi-Shard metal would be able to be split back into its component metals. Since the metal, and the new Shard, are literally two other metals/Shards squished (imagine I used a fancy word there) together, I think it would be reasonable that they be allowed to split. After all, the Warlight (and Towerlight) is able to do so in RoW, and taravangium is a solidified version of that. Also, I think it would be a bit lame if raysium and tanavastium never appeared on-screen again aside from the few bits that are currently in existence. That said, with the natural focus of much of the magic and natural processes on Roshar being on math and science, including the tones, I would imagine that the method of splitting the metal would not be turning it into a nuke. That is true; I had forgotten about the comments Kaladin makes about it. Thank you. Also, where does Lifelight normally come from when it isn't Lift? Raboniel has some in RoW, but Cultivation doesn't have a storm, and I find it unlikely that she would have granted it as Retribution does, via prayer. Given her Intent, maybe it is somehow grown?

Presumably, Retribution has or will have a god metal somewhere at some point. I can't imagine that it is immediately formed, as his perpendicularity takes time to fill, but I would assume that it starts naturally forming at some point somewhere. I was wondering what the possible qualities of this would be. We know that the only other metal of a dual Shard can be split into its two Shardic component counterparts, as we see trace amounts of lerasium and atium being made after the trellium (which repels Investiture) is used to split harmonium. I assume then that taravangium (?) can be split into tanavastium and raysium, but that it will also have its own unique effects. Also, with regards to Shardblades potentially being made of spren formed by the Investiture of Retribution, would these have different qualities to a standard Shardblade? Technically, I think one could make the case that all non-Honorblades are made of Siblingium (?), because spren are usually a combination of Honor and Cultivation, like the Sibling and its Towerlight are, so what would a Retribution-Blade look like? To my knowledge, there isn't any actual difference in either Towerlight, Warlight, or Lifelight when being actively used, other than who specifically can use them and where they come from (please correct me if this is wrong), so I have no idea if the solidified versions of these would be any different, but I am curious nonetheless.

I think it would be really neat if Kaladin became something like the Protector, similar to Kelsier being the Survivor, and further influenced Vorinism and/or became a splinter religion like what we see in Era 2 with the Path and the Church of the Survivor.

Axies the Collector mentions his curse, the Curse of Kind, in a very vague manner, but the Coppermind states both that it is tied to Fortune and that it is similar to the Torment caused by holding the Exist Dawnshard. My theory is that the Curse of Kind was caused by the holding of the Change Dawnshard. There have been a lot of theories popping up about the characterizations of the Dawnshards, and one of the more common ones has been that each of the four are related to Identity, Fortune, Connection, and Investiture, respectively. With the Exist Dawnshard rendering one unable to negatively affect or benefit from another's existence, I think it makes sense that the Change Dawnshard would negatively affect one's luck, or Fortune. Also, the fact that Axies is an Aimian, and this Dawnshard was found in Aimia, makes this theory more plausible in my mind.

Radiants Weaponizing Anti-Stormlight
OverlordBob999 replied to Trusk'our's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Pretty sure that the way that the Lashings work is by sticking the Stormlight to something, rather than in something, like how Kaladin describes spraying Light on rocks and such (I don't have quotes at the moment, forgive me). The way you describe it might result in some sort of burn/reaction on the surface, but I am unsure as to whether that would be as destructive as it being inside of them. However, in this scenario they're already fighting enemy Surgebinders, who are likely going to be full of Light so that they can fight anyway. And even without killing the Surgebinder directly, they can kill their spren (if they have Sand or are Lift) and remove their ability to fight effectively regardless. Still plenty of easy applications. Raboniel's daughter is quite dead. While Surgebinders may be able to circumvent the destructive effects of anti-Light (Shallan), it will for sure kill them if it is timed right or if they are forced to heal from something anyway (I think this is mentioned in WaT. It also seems a similar principle to killing Bloodmakers). -
We know that the time dilation-affected ending of WaT encompasses all of Mistborn Era 2, but would Harmony utilize Wax against Retribution at any point? TSM implies/states (I forget exactly which, forgive me) that there will be a Roshar v. Scadrial conflict in the cosmere future, though Scadrials side could also likely consist of various characters from Era 3, as well as Marsh and Kelsier. However, I would be very interested to see a Wax v. Blackthorn duel at some point. Ideologically, the law/civilization/humanity against conquest/brutality/inhumanity would be interesting, plus also cool swords versus cool guns. Thoughts?

I would guess that the Shard of bravery would not be avoiding fights, especially if it comes from the mindset of defending/avenging its fellow Shards

The Weapon that Taln Mentions
OverlordBob999 replied to OverlordBob999's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Many thanks -
The numbers 10 and 9 are both important to the Rosharan system, as Honors number is 10 and Odiums number is 9. Cultivations number is currently unknown / possibly nonexistent (not every Shard has one), but I doubt that hers would be the new magic number for the Oathgates since she left Roshar. however, it is stated that Jezriens Blade was corrupted by Odium, possibly impacting whether or not it is considered an Honorweapon (now it's an Odiumblade??), which would keep the number at 10. But I do like the theory of Kaladin being able to connect and heal the peoples of Roshar after he's done / satisfied with the progress of healing the Heralds.

The Weapon that Taln Mentions

I know that the other two unknown Dawnshards are often theorized about, but given the focus in Vorinism and from Tanavast on Dawnshards (plural) I think it is then possible that there was a different Dawnshard in the Rosharan system at one point. Obviously, the emphasis on keeping them separated means that there probably weren't multiple near each other, or even on the same planet - making it possible for Kalak to have acquired the Ashyn Dawnshard and given it to Taln. This would likely mean that the Aimia Dawnshard was in the possession of the Dawnsingers/Sleepless (as an aside, are the Sleepless native to Roshar? Their physiology suggests to me that they almost certainly are), which would also then inform the Vorin connection between the Dawnshards and the Dawnsingers. -
Edit: Crap I just realized that NB was patterned after Shardblades and those weren't around yet. Never mind. Sounded cool though. Wondering about yalls ideas of what the weapon was though.

What powers will the Blackthorn have?
OverlordBob999 replied to Atlas333's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Basically just an incredibly busted version of Amaram in OB. Actually, now that I think about it, having Kaladin fight Amaram-Dalinar when he Returns could be pretty interesting.
