Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Removing my vote from Mailliw before I have an early night. I don't feel well enough right now to look at other people, so just going to leave myself with a no vote. -
So, taken me a while to get around to this, unfortunately, but I wanted to check on timings, as I wasn't sure when this would be able to be started up again. There are two current issues with the game, I think, that I would like to fix. 1) Wealth. We have some players with very high amounts of Wealth that does very little, and a few players basically scraping by, creating a wide Wealth gap (there is also a huge MP gap). This would in theory be fine (as Wealth is meant to be converted into things), except that it seems people are thinking about it as the end-product of their House, rather than an enabling force. The other issue is that some things (changable contracts and upgrading Properties) are making things very complicated and delaying less-Wealth-based things from happening. The other aspect of this love of money is that it is taking over Actions. I understand that getting a working economy is important in a long game such as this, but it has taken over, it would appear. 2) Roleplaying. The game was always intended to be more RP-heavy than game-heavy, but we get very few people consistently RPing. This makes writeups very difficult for me, and makes things less interesting. Related to this is that people are not doing new and interesting things with their Actions, when the idea of the game is to encourage people to explore the setting and change aspects of The Final Empire through the ages. The other aspect of this is the fact that the Global Events seem to have been mostly ignored through the game. At this just-prior-to-halfway point (the idea is to continue up to the events that create The Survivor of Hathsin, assuming no drastic changes occur first), I am happy to continue the game, but I feel it needs these two aspects to be addressed, and perhaps a little simplification if possible. At the moment, my most liked idea for balancing the game is to remove the concept of 'Upgraded' Properties from the game and up the Standard Action Cost and the amount of Wealth Goods give people to compensate. I may also make Luthadel Keeps buff Wealth and MP to help deal with the standard deviation in these areas. I do not yet have an ETA for restarting the game, as I would like to have peoples' thoughts on these matters first.

Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'd love to know how you know the total number of Smokers in this game, Mailliw. Seems unlikely you know literally know everyone's Role at this stage, unless you have friends helping you collect them. I'm not sure about you, a lot of your posts and some of our PMs have felt a little off to me. I'd also still like you to put your suspicions into words - We can hardly give a free pass to people who say 'Yeah, I'm suspicious of these people but I can't explain why just trust me'. Also, I can see reasons why we might have more Smokers than you think, despite the fact we only have one Seeker claim. There is the fact that we could have inactive/quiet Seekers, and there is also another reason for Smokers - They protect against Rioting/Soothing. Perhaps this is a game with a high number of Emotional Allomancers, not Seekers? I'm not saying that's necessarily true, but there is a reason for high Smoker count if there are a lower number of Seekers. -

I did a much longer post before that one stating my comments a bit more clearly, but I accidentally closed the browser and lost it all >>. I think I managed to misread your original post when re-writing the reply. I thought that you ignored or glossed over the space issue at that time, which you did not. My bad. I have no real issue with the spatial factor as long as we acknowledge this as a special case and don't have Roleclaims coming out of everywhere, as we often used to have with Roleless Villagers, for the rest of this game. I'm also usually against revealing Roles without their permissions, but in the circumstances we can waive that. My only actual concern is that this may lead to blind lynching of a Role-type until none exist/only hidden ones exist. We need to do this intelligently and with tact, using it as additional evidence rather than going 'Smoker? Lynch!'. Role distribution breakdowns cannot and should not replace logical deductions. Provided this is understood and taken into account, I do not have a problem with this strategy. -

The danger there Kas is that revealing Smokers also reduces the space our more important Roles have to move and hide in. Also that we're lynching against Roles there, which is a dangerous way to proceed, but if there are indeed five of them... Mailliw's list is interesting, with seven people on it which he thinks is over 50% correct. Can I ask you to show your working? Anyone can state who they believe to be an Eliminator, but it'd be rather nice to see why you think that you're correct here. And finally, with regards to STINK's claim, I'm not quite sure where I stand on him. I don't know why he's revealed his Role like this, except maybe to head off being the lynch target, but it seems a bit early for that. I certainly don't suspect him more than others at this stage. -

Okay, thank you Haelbarde. I don't care if you vote for me, just as long as it's a vote that makes a statement about your suspicions and where you fall on various players. The 'easy' vote is not one we want to encourage, as we get the most information from seeing the choices the Eliminators make. And as has been said before, it's also not a good idea for poke votes (or any votes) to be removed just by a quick response to them, as this makes them meaningless. Hence why I wanted to press you on this. I am now going to put my vote on Hellscythe, for the time being. But considering I am out this afternoon/evening, it is unlikely to change. With regards to the Tineye messages swapping, yeah, that was an unintended but hilarious coincidence. I am still claiming the second one as mine, and the password really is obvious. Mailliw's figured it out. If you want a clue, then my message on the first day should give you a hint. Though to be honest, the time when my message could help is past, now. -

Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
...Actually, yeah >>. But I'd like a little more clarification on the why of the vote. Is Stink one of your main suspicions then? Or are you just voting for him because I didn't remove my vote from you, and it's an easy place to put your vote? If he's not, who are your main suspicions? And if he is, why? Just because he's doing the same as you, and has avoided making voting choices? (I do note that his response was to correct your usage of affect/effect which, while important, is not an actual response to your comments about him). -

Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
As there's been nothing more from Haelbarde yet, I am not removing my vote from him. However, I will chip in about Hellscythe, as I may be tempted to switch my vote to him later on. I am in two minds about Hellscythe. His playstyle is generally what I would term as 'forceful' (look who's talking). That can tend to ruffle feathers and polarise the opinions of other players. As such, I'm not sure whether I think he's evil, or if it's just how he's phrasing things that makes me think like that. As someone who suffers from that, I'm a little conscious of that effect. On the other hand, he's doing a lot of stuff on my Eliminator-Trying-To-Appear-Village bingo sheet. He is requesting a scan on himself, he's being exuberant about getting an Eliminator in the lynch, he's very active, and he's trying to misdirect and split the village by focusing on one person. I find it particularly amusing that he also talks Hreo down for suspecting someone who created discussion with an odd strategy, which is kind of the exact same thing I was trying (though mine was much less convoluted). All of these things are starting to add up and outweigh The Hellscythe Effect in my mind. -

Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm not convinced enough to remove my vote at this point, and will wait and see whether you decide to stop being neutral. Your response, while fairly explanatory, still holds off on actually making any accusations or any strong commentary, remaining middle-of-the-lane and cautious. With regards to Adavantos and Alvron... I am just confused. The whole point of the Seeker having a proxy is that they're not in danger. Why do we need the Seeker's proxy to have a proxy? Adavantos has previously not cared about his own death in the interests of furthering the Village's interests. Why the change suddenly, saying he needs to work through another person? The Seeker doesn't need anything to be said publicly until they have results. And why does Adavantos' own survival matter when the Seeker has one other contact, and can gain an additional one each day? I see no need for this plot, and am increasingly of the opinion that it isn't true. -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'd very much like to know why a Tineye has decided to single out Hellscythe as a lynch target with just that small bit of information (it wasn't me, I'm the other one - No quotation marks, by the way). While I may be looking at him a little oddly myself, it's very interesting that they decided to say it anonymously. The comment contained no sensitive information, and could easily have been mentioned during the day. My immediate concern is that this is said by an Eliminator who wants to get us to lynch him with little repercussion. I see no other reason for mentioning it in the write-up rather than bringing the point up in a discussion. As for my vote, I am going to place it on Haelbarde. He has not put a vote on anyone yet for any reason other than inactivity. Most of his posts have either been attempting to explain rules or these summary links he makes. His actions seem to me to be incredibly safe and neutral, preventing him from having to stick his neck out and do anything which people would think is immediately evil. -

Yeah, because I don't think it's fair to call for the cross-examination of a guy who's clearly insane >>. More seriously, you're either a Villager who thinks an extra person to enable PMs/my survival is a lot more important than your own reasoning (which I would disagree with), or you're an Eliminator who intended to survive the lynch and use your willingness to be lynched as 'proof' of innocence (which is possible depending on timezones of other Eliminators, but I don't think the lynch ended up safe enough for them to have tried that). Edit: I also disagree that your lynch would be more informative than mine, considering the number of people who weighed in on it. At this point, I'm leaning towards you being legit, but we shall see. -

Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
And people say that Day 1 votes are pointless and only harm us... Though admittedly, I have no real idea how a lynch happened on a mostly inactive player due to a Rioter, that's just a little weird. Also, why are people bloody speculating on their identity? Sure, it'd be good to know that we have a confirmed player out there, but if they haven't come forward, there's a reason and we shouldn't be trying to force them into a position like that. Considering Lopen was one of the people advocating not killing me, I am very tempted to look closer at the others who had that sort of idea in mind. At the time, it looked as though I was pretty much the forerunner for the lynch, and I do not think any Eliminator would want to be anywhere near my lynch. Those who have stated that they do not want to lynch me for my role publicly include: luckat, Orlok and Hreo. Edit: Posted halfway through what I was saying >>. To continue, I am not amazingly suspicious of any of these, though Orlok and Hreo have had some comments sent their way. I am still looking a bit sideways at Hreo though for his Kasimir vote 'for reasons'. The other two have more-or-less slipped under the radar for me. The only thing that jumps out about Orlok to me is that he is usually deathly afraid of me being an Eliminator, but unlike others such as Mailliw, advocates keeping my alive for my Role despite this. -

Flagging up that I am unlikely to be the only Tineye. We got two Tineye messages, so either's it's (at least) two Tineyes, or a Tineye and a Mistborn, and the former's far more probable. The last few games I was a player in, the majority of Day 1 was taken up by discussing the merits of a Day 1 lynch versus no Day 1 lynch, or another plan. Besides, you make it sound like there is ever enough Day 1 discussion . I think we can all agree that my reveal has generated a lot of debate later in the cycle, so I would say that it's done it's job. It occurs to me that I haven't yet voted. I was going to earlier, but decided that I wasn't too sure where to go with it at the time, and so wanted to wait a little. Looking back at Adavantos' posts, I'm rather curious. He states that he was considerably suspicious of myself (and Kas) before any of this happened. I'm not quite sure why, considering he never actually mentioned the reasons for my vote. Looking at his summary of the game so far, he does not at any point mention this suspicion of me. I would very much like to know what it was he apparently saw that no-one else did. -

Same way that if you died by Eliminator, I'd probably be public enemy #1, despite the fact that I wouldn't be to blame. I advised against relying on Seonid's identity because I don't believe that connections can be drawn this early on. However, a lot of people do believe that they can be drawn, and ultimately the majority rules. I can advise against it, but I can't stop people if they want to follow that path this early on (or if I'm dead). For what it's worth, any discussion's fine. I may be in the center of it (and the focus of a bit of a tunnel), but frankly my death is a lot better than no death, and with so much generated by it, it'll definitely give people stuff to go on. 1) I could give this alibi, or I could give this reason. This is not a point I can dispute, by its very nature. 2) If a Coinshot wants to take me out, all they really have to do is say so and get my protection lifted - and moved to them. A Coinshot's safety is much more important than a Tineye's, after all. Alternatively, if they don't want to be public with their Role, then they can try to get me lynched, just like other players. Unless someone is scanned and revealed to be Village (and even then taken with a pinch of salt, see LG15), people should always consider the circumstances and question conclusions that have been already been drawn. 3) I never said that anyone had to come forward to me. Anonymous protection works exactly the same as known protection. Hell, even the potential of being protected works as well as that. 4) People should not be letting my Role (or anyone's Role) scare them off the lynch. If we were always worried about killing Roles, then we'd never lynch anyone. If people want certainty then that's what we have Seekers for (assuming no Eliminator Smokers interfere, but that seems unlikely). -

Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hm, interesting. Three votes on me overnight? I expected to generate some discussion with what I did, but not quite in that way. I revealed myself publicly partially because I'm a decent target to be killed early on anyway. I don't usually get a Lurching on me, so as far as I see it, revealing myself makes me no more of a target for Eliminators, and more of one for Lurchers (better they protect someone likely to die rather than themselves when they're unlikely to be hit, as has happened in past games). Basically, if I'm going to die soon anyway, I might as well try and prevent that death. Though if we have two Tineyes, that makes me less of a target. There was also an element of seeing reactions towards it, and who would try and use it against me. As I said, my goal was to generate some Day 1 discussion, as we usually are sorely lacking in it. Already we have three votes placed on the first Day against me, which is by far the most solid lynch we've had yet, and rather early on. I also felt it would be more fun than sitting for ages failing to think of a coded message to waste everyone's time. Was it the most optimal move for me to make as a Villager? No, though it's not the worst. But if Tineyes always did the most optimal thing, we'd never get any messages. It was the most fun thing I could think of, and I refuse to be discouraged of doing fun things. To answer Elbereth, my point was 'yet'. I that looking for reasons in the Eliminators' kills early on is a bit pointless. Not later on when we have more evidence and can map things out better, but it is at the start, as we have a lot of experienced players with a lot of connections now. Tell me, who would you lynch on this singular fact, ignoring everything else that has happened? You didn't actually attempt to draw any conclusions from it either, you just reiterated the same question as me. So ultimately, using this reasoning, you're as guilty as me. Hell, everyone is except Mashadar Mistborn, since he's the only one who raised it. -

Survivor alive, why don't we just have our Coinshots and Seekers Roleclaim publicly? Would save you time pointing them out to the Eliminators. -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
(formatting broke) Since you've turned up and brought up a point, I have removed my vote from you, Mashadar Mistborn. It could be that Seonid's attempt to connect with players has made him a target, as you have said. To that end, is anyone from a PM group he set up willing to come forward and state who was in it? A bit of a long shot perhaps, but it would be useful to know. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'noisy proclamation of usefulness' here, but I always consider that my role at the early stage of the game is to draw out discussion from players who may otherwise be sitting back and being quiet. Sometimes Usually I do that by being a bit aggressive and antagonistic with my votes. I'd quite like to know what Hreo's vote has behind it with the implications of there being reasons there which aren't mentioned. We have a lot of random, reasonless votes on Day 1 usually (which is fine to a certain extent, in my opinion), but I'm curious if he has actually got one. If so, it could be quite useful to hear what that is - provided it's not too sensitive (in which case, why bring it up?). -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah, I'm claiming Tineye. Had to do something interesting, and as I'm not really good at thinking up secret messages, I decided to throw subtlety out of the window and at least generate a bit of discussion with my Roleclaim. Essentially just trying to counteract the normal 'we have nothing to discuss' on the first Day. Of course, I am now going to have to figure out something better to do for the second Night... I am now interviewing for the position of PR agent? Moving on to the other events of the Night. Seonid was an Eliminator in AG1, remember, so I don't think his death is particularly weird on Night 1 in this game. He was also rather active yesterday too, which may be a contributing factor. I don't think there's much point looking for actual reasoning in his death though, at least not yet. I'm hoping that our Seeker(s) managed to find something useful out, and will be making great use of their new contacts today in private. That's the most important thing for us at this stage of the game during Night Turns. Well, as well as our Lurchers attempting to second-guess the Eliminators, that's also important. Our Coinshots (most likely Village in a game where Role/Alignment checking is done simultaneously and we have had no Coinshot kill on Night 1) should probably get onto taking out inactives this Night as well. I am going to vote for one of the people who did not do anything other than RP the previous day. It's a very neutral thing to do early on, and doesn't make you stick your neck out or say anything that could be used against you. Mashadar Mistborn was the first one to do that the previous day. -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Fixed that. I was just using it to differentiate between RP and actual discussion. And cheers, Kas, for a vote. Even if it is for this guy called 'Chief', whoever that is >>. I must say, I'm rather sad that you've got claims and I haven't. Do people not trust me or something? -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
Wyrmhero replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Is there any reason we shouldn't be starting things off with a lynch discussion today? May be a Night Turn, but that's no reason to skip discussion, even on the first day. There may not be anything to really say right now, but that's how first Turns go anyway. The more we talk, the more chance the Eliminators let something slip, so why not start now? With regards to what Hreo has just said, I kind of disagree. The Coinshots should really start taking out inactives as soon as possible to reduce hiding places and make sure our lynches are actually of use rather than mopping up non-contributors. However. Having said that, I am aware that today is a rather difficult day for people to get on. As such, I'd say it's not a bad idea to leave it a Cycle and start taking them out next Night, when we have more idea of who is actually inactive-inactive and not just Boxing-Day-inactive. The Amazing Wyrm shook his head sadly at the spectacle in the middle of the village, the words written in the snow by someone who very clearly needed a new set of inks. Frankly, he was amazed there was anyone else literate in a village like this. But it seemed that not only was someone able to, but they were also just a little unhinged. He did not so much take issue with the content of the message (he was fairly annoyed with that too, but it wasn't as though this would be the first time he was told he was going to die), more with the delivery of it. There was no flair, no style with it. Words written in blood was always a classic way of getting your point across, but to just leave it there... For all the writer knew, the words would just get covered up by the snow a short while afterwards. It was a careless method in this weather, and it was depressing to see the lack of care behind it. But still, this sort of doom and gloom meant that someone needed to cheer folks up. And how better to amaze and delight people than with misdirection and prestidigitation? He cleared his throat and put his hands around his mouth so he could shout better. "Tickets are now just two clips! Two clips gets you to see The Amazing Wyrm, alive on stage! Forget your woes and troubles as I pull rabbits and rodents out of the very hat on my head! With a clap of my hands, I produce a variety of root vegetables, straight from the gardens of Luthadel's nobility! Tickets on sale now and at the performance!" "The Amazing Wyrm, ladies and gentlemen! I am here..." He looked back at the message in the snow. "...For the foreseeable future..." -

"This looks like a good spot..." he muttered to himself, as he commanded the dumb animals moving the cart to halt just to the side of the village center. He climbed down from the driving seat and unhitched the donkeys from the vehicle. "There'd better be a half-decent stableboy in this place," he added as he finished detaching them. "'Cause I'm not looking after you greedy little sods..." Great, now he was talking to the stupid things. He'd been on the road too long without company. But that was what happened on the road, considering most people didn't have the luxury of travel. With a sigh he stepped back and around his cart, moving to the side and unlatching a series of taut ropes and hooks from their rests. They snapped up as soon as he let go, and as the last of them was removed, a colourful poster was revealed on the side. He winced a little at it, reminded of his folly. Paper was expensive, paint was expensive... And was it even as though any of the people here could read? But the colour was important, it drew people here, particularly those who were illiterate. And it was that sort of person that he made the most money of off. With a cough to clear his throat and a swig of something to give him a little courage, he raised his voice. "Come and see The Amazing Wyrm, tickets only five-!" he looked around and revised his plans, "only three Clips each! Marvel as I make rodents disappear and reappear before your very eyes! Gasp in awe as I pull coins from behind your ears! Shriek as I cut an audience member in half, only for them to stand up completely unharmed! The Amazing Wyrm, ladies and gentlemen, only three Clips a ticket! No-one gets in without a ticket!" -
Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Wyrmhero replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So, post-op on this game... Actually, not a massive amount to say about this game. There's not much to say that isn't kind of obvious in hindsight. Eliminators The Eliminators were underpowered, I will agree with that. However, as one of them went inactive, it's impossible to say just how underpowered they were. I gave them six people because there was the possibility of getting an extra vote from the HI - But more on that later. Five people, effectively, was not enough. Particularly when some of those five weren't very active either. If I could swap them with someone active, I think we'd have seen a much closer game. The only real things I would change is perhaps swapping a Roleless for a second Hemalurgist, and the Voidbringer for an Elantrian. The other unfortunate aspect for the Eliminators is that each of their kills and Burnt's scans seemed to hit Roleless players. The Village still had all the most important, core Roles, right at the end of the game. However, they did play a rather good game, and I am surprised it ended in a 'lynch-the-cop' situation. I don't think we've ever had that before. Forgers The Forgers sadly did not end up being used to a great degree. They were intended to be a fairly important part of this game, but they both got killed early on. I think what I should have done was perhaps make up to four players Forgers (maybe an even split, maybe 1:2 Traitors to Loyals), and give fewer Roles out to players (so only one Mistborn, Elantrian etc.). That would have made Roles a lot more sought-after, and Forgers a lot more valuable for both sides. The HI The HI was not intended to always switch sides at the end of the game. It was a possibility (growing stronger as the game went on) if Hemalurgists were tracked down, and the idea was that the HI could provide a shot-in-the-arm to an otherwise slightly unfavoured Eliminator team at the end of the game, by injecting knowledge about Roles and the extra vote. For some reason though, the Eliminators had the chance and knowledge to grab him early-game, but seemed to forget that this was the plan. Other Mechanics I might also have tweaked the Kandra Role slightly to allow it to give protection to a player against scans as well. I only put one Kandra in on the Loyal side because of this, and also because I wanted to subvert the expectations that the Village would have two. Pleasingly, it seems that did get people. I also feel that the time-limited PMs worked well. The delay in information meant that they were slightly less strong and central to the game, but were still useful at Night when planning. There were very few instances of players forgetting this rule. Conclusion So, things to take away from this - Could have done with a slightly more experienced/active Eliminator team (or perhaps a larger one, depending on who was chosen), and scans aren't really balanced without protection against it. Finally, if your game is meant to have a 'central' ability or mechanic, make sure it is actually central . Aside I enjoyed doing a variety of different styles of writeup in this game. We had journal entries, incident forms, police reports, a mental journey, and present tense. My only regret is that I forgot I was going to title this thread 'Ghost in the Shell' >>. Ah well. Thinking about it now, I also wish I'd done a second person styled-one, because I think that would have been interesting. But yes, I enjoyed doing things a bit differently here.- 1686 replies
