    It was silent, in the square. Life was… well, it wasn’t plentiful. Nor was any movement, for that matter. A small child scampered across the square, looking behind themselves worriedly. Seeing something in the shadows, they widened their eyes and took off, sprinting - careless of direction. Well… not careless. Just… anywhere but the shadow. The horrible, death bringing, shadow. The urchin ran into an adult, and apologized quickly as they ran around the adult, finding their hiding spot and descending into the tunnels. The adult didn’t say anything. In fact, the adult didn’t do anything at all. The adult did not even blink.

    The shadows blocked out the light, and the cold seemed to freeze his heart for a few moments. And then… fire. Burning through the depthdrinker, light, life, and safety returned to him as the shadows were destroyed.
