    Perhaps, but there's honestly no real reason for that to be the case. Perhaps that's the easiest way to start, but the metals are essentially arranged the same way as other earth. There would be no reason earthbenders couldn't figure out how to just manipulate the raw metal itself

    I believe because their air is basically inside the clouds In the same way that (theory only) hypothetically a really strong metalbender could achieve the same result as bloodbending, using the iron within a person's body as a connection point Honestly, I think a lot of bending has to do with mindset and perspective, especially at the fringes

    Where else do we see them using non-hybrid bending they haven't learned yet? I believe, if I recall correctly, that in this instance he was more moving them with the wind than moving the water of the clouds themselves
