    Tempest smiled. "Julian's in the back. And, yes, of course, assuming Mother Entreri is fine with it." He smiled weakly. "I'll try, though I can't make any promises." "But if they try to kill you, or Tam, or anybody, and they're too dangerous. They die."

    “Yeah. Thanks. But… I wish there was a way to put them under bars, instead of killing them. Except for the leader, of course.”

    “It’s anything does, it will.” he said sadly. “And I’m fine with it, but if it puts you in danger… those hunters are gonna die.”

    “Thanks.” He looked at her sadly. “I need you too, but… all I worry about is that my stupid past is gonna get you killed.”

    “Regardless, when do you need me? All I’ve ever done was endanger you.” “Because Stone attacked and you, well, you know.”

    “Why? You never would’ve met me. Why do you need me? When have I ever saved you from something not caused by me?” cricket doesn’t care or know tho He smiled at her sadly.

    “He wouldn’t be there if I wasn’t around. You wouldn’t have nearly gotten frostbite, or anything else. Welderan wouldn’t have died.” he said quietly.

    No you don’t, Bat. he spoke in his mind. “But Stone came for me. I’m the one he’s after.”

    He took her hand. “Thanks.” he whispered. “But I didn’t try with Stone. I didn’t give it my all. If you had died, or Bat, then I would be to blame.”

    He took it, smiling sadly.

    He looked up. “Uh… sure?”

    “Thanks.” he muttered quietly.

    “It’s the way of things. It taught me control, and… I haven’t let go of it, not even against Stone. Because if I did, I knew I wouldn’t be able to get it back under control.” “Fine.” Cricket said, distracted, putting his head in his hands. “What’s your name anyway?”

    “Before. I was barely fifteen, and… there was a criminal who found me one night, when I was starving and took me to his house. I thought he was a good man. He wasn’t. He put some sort of gadget on me that restricts my powers and decided to train me as his “apprentice.” That man taught me how to use my knives, taught me to steal. A year later, after being told to kill someone, I wanted out. He wouldn’t let me… and there was a fight. I killed him, and several others. That day I showed myself I was a monster.” He took a trembling breath, then closed his eyes, trying to control his emotion.

    “The worst.” he said, wiping his eye. “I came here after…” his voice broke. “after I first killed a man. After the first time I lost control.”

    “I don’t know… it’s just being here, it brings up old memories, bad memories.” Cricket paused. “Maybe not, but Stone was about to kill both of them unless I came! And… it’s up to Tam if you can join us.”

    Cricket looked uncomfortable at the idea, but nodded. "Yeah, you can train me on the road, if you really want to."

    He looked up. “Yeah, I think three times is the record. And now my friends are on some random villain’s hit list, sooooo…” he gestured helplessly. @xinoehp512

    “Yeah.” “She used to hate running the inn, and would have arguments with her aunt all the time. She said she wanted to run off and go to sea, but I guess she’s accepted her fate now.” Cricket sighed, staring at the table for a moment. “Oh. Hi.” Cricket said, nervous. The pain was not at all helping.

    She flashed a smile at her as she left. Cricket leaned in. “She’s matured a lot, you know, Tempest. When I first stayed here, she was kind of wild.”

    She smiled. "I like you, Tam." "Of course." she said, leaving them to get their orders. Cricket looked at his friends and smiled. It didn't matter that his world was going to hell, that his brother had tried to kill him, that hunters were watching him, that an unknown villain had blown up a nuke in his face, these were his friends, and the reason he was still alive. He loved being with them. Tam and Bat, and to a lesser extent, Gaioh. They were incredible people who he trusted, and would die to protect. He never wanted to go back to the Enullers, never wanted to face the hunters, Malan, or Malevolence. But he would do it, if he needed to, to protect them.
