  1. Huh... I was trying to find some reference but the book never really tells what is it's colour, only that the worm paste "glows" (maybe I missed some reference, you are welcome to add). I think I confused it with gold because of the golden glowing butterflies (and I think Hoid also used golden stuff in Secret History?) so my mind pictured the paste golden too. But yes Cakoban did have golden Investiture on sail so maybe they are from Autonomy's world who guided them there.
  2. How will they know that they can hear the Knell? Did Dusk mention it to them? As far as I remember he only told Starling... maybe I am forgetting something. The other Navigators should be able to locate them through the Embderdark like they locate Islands. So they would realise what happened. Hmmm. Maybe the Scadrians can have a deal which requires them to wipe their memories of the expedition? (Have them stored it in an Unsealed Metalmind, check if they included entire Memory and then throw it away)
  3. Yeah, but I would consider that Brandon didn't want to reveal and wanted to tease us. Doesn't explain in world reasoning except just what Hoid found convinient.
  4. Brandon has teased us several times but across several WoBs it is almost confirmed that Sel does experience huge amounts of Time Dilation. This theory also easily explains Kaise being in Lost Metal when Elantris took place long before without having her have some way of stopping aging. So yes that is possible. I mean it could still be Autonomy's Investiture. The worms are suffused with it and it gives a golden glow. Which also begs the question. Assuming the perpendicularity and excess Investiture on the planet is mostly due to Autonomy's avatar, why had she Invested in a then uninhabited planet? And if not then there would have been no perpendicularity for them to enter through. Unless of course Autonomy was the one to orchestrate the quest, as way to "prove themselves" and we can see several hints of Autonomy's beliefs being believed by Cakoban and his crew. Edit: I am curious if someone knows how is "Dakwara" and "Cakoban" pronounced and if we can find some vague linguistic origin (It feels kinda Slavic to me? Could be way off though) which we can compare to current known languages from cosmere.
  5. "peculiar cast" and "unnatural air" would probably be something even i would think if an alien completely encased in what looks like glowing metal with wisps of whatever light is being used at this point of time leaking in air dropped from the sky in front of me and walked towards me with complete confidence and in probably a regal like style. (I had a stroke while writing this sentence, so have fun reading it) It is most definitely vaguely worded by Brandon as not hint and spoil what would be the result of conflicts in the back half of Stormlight... I don't think we can say anything there really isn't anything to go on.
  6. I hate this idea... I really don't see this happening. For this to work, first we probably need to kill Adolin which is bad and make Shallan immortal, then have Wit and shallan romance which also doesn't sound good as Wit was more of a mentor figure for Shallan. Oh also need to make the twins immortal. I still think wife will be: Current Vessel of Valor "the twins": Frost and his sister
  7. This. At that point sailors would have nearly obsolete in the their worlds, and those who did sail would be relying on modern technology, so that would not be a skillset that they would have learnt. The trappers were not afforded this luxury so they did learn. Scadrians will try but as long as the Navigators (or Wayfinders :D) do not let slip that they can also hear the Knell like them and just have further skills, Scadrians will not reach to that conclusion as most of them will think they have direct method with use of Investiture and they will not believe that such a backward society could have more skills than them. But how would they know what everyone finds? It will only be used to navigate the Emberdark nothing beyond. Anything there will already be found by them first. For setting up base or navigating secretly they can probably set up a deal to buy a Navigator's secrecy, if they leak the information then that is bad for their trades as no one would trust them after that and will only use them for public out in daylight deals that is only to navigate to their planet and use it as an intermediate station. Not being able to trust them would also push others to desperation to find ways of navigation that again goes against Drominadian interest. So best for everyone to honour the deal.
  8. Concentrating Investiture by using Aether spores to create a perpendicularity does seem a pretty good method as with the help of the Primordial Aethers they could ask and recieve a ton of it to make it. This would also mean though that when the Investiture is drained like in TLM, it would not regenerate as it was not due to natural accumulation of Investiture (otherwise nature would have cycled it again to collect it as a perpendicularity)
  9. Lumar does not have a perpendicularity. No Aether world currently has one which is why it is an economic and logistics hassle to get spores. This reminds me.... First of the Sun was uninhabited before their ancestors came? If so it indeed does not make sense for Autonomy to create an avatar on such a planet. If not then what happened to the original people? As there seems to be just one culture and way of thinking. We also don't know which planet are they originally from or why would they leave it... It could have been Autonomy's planet and then she guided them on this "quest" to survive and prove themselves so she made the Perpendicularity and Avatar there before they reached.
  10. But it is a part of them only in Dragon form, in human form its only in their iris I think iirc, (I don't remember where I got this from, it's just there in my mind)? Is there somewhere that says that the bones are also dragonsteel in human form? Also wasn't tamukek supposed to be their bones and the description does not seem like that of Dragonsteel. Yes it does present a real danger. Also the rate at which it consumes Investiture is far higher than the rate at which Starling seems to be able to replenish it, as I think there was a line saying "it takes time" (though that maybe due to her being bound) so that would result in a dead dragon. I don't think Heralds are more Invested than dragons. Dragons are said to be so Invested to the point that they cannot gain access to Invested Arts or Nahel Bond. Their flesh could probably be cut with a Shardblade but their soul? Most definitely not, metaminds, spikes and other Invested objects cannot be cut with Shardblade so Dragons definitely not. So it can probably start cutting flesh but then will stop (I am assuming that since it pierces all 3 realms it stops moving in all 3 if blocked in any one). I don't think Honorblades have "higher cutting potential"
  11. Shards do seem to be forming alliances and teaming up. Dalinar's Sunmaker gambit was to get the Shards to form an alliance to work against Retribution which probably paid off and several alliances still remain. I doubt Autonomy is backing them. I don't currently have the book so I can't quote but there was a line in Starling's internal narration mocking the Scadrians thinking they have the superior tech by saying what does Taldain think about that. So at this point Taldain is still the most dominant in technology as always due to Autonomy. So I think she would side them and Taldain could be neutral like Nalthis, where it trades to both or maybe it has isolated itself, as Drominad System was referred to as "one of Autonomy's old domains" which implies that she has left more than one planet so she could be in hiding on her main planet Taldain. I think you are correct it was worded very like that to hide spoilers for Mistborn Era 3 about if it was split, became Discord or came back to Harmony (I think it is a safe bet that he does turn to Discord even if for short time... it would be a wasted story telling opportunity if not). If they used Harmony or Discord anywhere it would have given it away.
  12. I like the idea of it being Valor's vessel. I also think this would be a recent development as I don't think he would have started a relationship with Jasnah otherwise. Endowment in her letter said this in WaT: While in RoW, Harmony said this: I am willing to trust Sazed in this matter, as he does not have any personal and old rivalry with Hoid and has recently talked to her. While Endowment is saying what she thinks Valor wants and is mostly protective of her like a friend. So Valor is willing to start talking again and in the Epilogue of WaT, Hoid decides that it is time to find Valor in order to assist the people of Roshar to ressist Retribution. Assuming he manages to do that they will be working closesly for quite some time and will have time to reconnect and potentially start dating again. It also makes sense from a story telling point of view as she would be someone close to his age and also functionally immortal like him with vast amount of Investiture. Don't know how she would forget them getting married. Maybe because she sacrificed huge chunks of Investiture while fighting Retribution to win several of which were used to store her memories. So she loses recent memories, remembers only old ones so back to hating him again. They are also not on speaking terms due to other reasons as Hoid says its only partially because she doesn't remember being his wife. Starling would have also known that his wife does not remember them being married, yet her asking about her as a viable option implies that his wife did help him even after that several times. Meaning, them not being on speaking terms is also a very very new development from Starling's point of view. "The Twins" could be their kids, I find it highly likely and unlikely at the same time. It's confusing. But I don't think the twins mean his wife and her sister. Doesn't make sense as his wife helping him is not currently a viable option. Starling needs to be familiar with them to instantly understand who Hoid is talking about, so it being the kids make sense. It could also be his apprentices, that 2 of them are twins as Brandon did RAFO someone asking if some of them are related saying it would be too much info in this WOB. Though it is open to several different interpretations. It could also be that by "twins" he means Frost and his sister (we don't necessarily know if they are twins or not but they could be, is the age gap mentioned somewhere? or was one called younger anywhere?), as that was the original idea of him coming and asking for help. As seen in WaT, it would not be out of line for him to go to his sister when Frost refuses to help so it makes sense for him to ask for her too. Though that would put the theories of Starling being the daughter of that sister to rest as Starling's parents are dead. The "twins" referring to Frost and his sister makes most sense to me and sounds highly likely.
  13. Ok so this is a little off-topic. But the tone is something that echoes throughout Roshar in Physical Realm right? Like the Singers and all can also hear it. Also that is only why keeping it in a vacuum also works. So if it were to taken off-world like Gavilar and Ghostbloods were planning (lets forget the Connection problems for a second) so it would not be able to hear the tones as it is not on Roshar. So it should not be able to echo it right? Also what would happen if we were to make it hear some other tone like say Odium's in such a case. Would it create Warlight or Voidlight? (I don't think either but wanted to ask) So would it change it's tone? Or the most you can do is change the phase difference as it is essentially echoing the same tone back just different phase and it can't echo another tone? Also would it possible to make Harmonium stop hearing Harmony's pure tone and then play Preservation and Ruin's tone seperately to divide it into Lerasium and Atium as we saw it could split into 2 and each individual should be able to echo the tone of their respective Shards.
  14. I think it is supposed to be like an anti-matter equivalent so it will have gravity normally. It is just Investiture but out of phase. So it would also cause time dilations similarly. For FTL I think Brandon is going to use Spiritual Realm shenanigans as time and space don't matter there. There were also some theories on Seons communicating via FTL but considering the delays in conversation between Shallan and Kelsier could mean that is not the case. Or it could be just that it is FTL but not instantaneous. It could also be that the communication is instantaneous and the time delay is just because of the time taken by Shallan to speak the sentence but I don't feel it accounts for it as the time dilation is roughly 8 times the Rosharan time. And Kelsier says that it takes hours for them to get it. Thats not what 8 times of a single sentence would be. Or well 16 times as it is 2 ways. It could also be that currently time dilation is lot more as the event was very recent and Kelsier said that the time dilation is slowly decreasing.
  15. That is a good point. That does also limit her powers from becoming a little too overpowered. She can't just do it to steal anyone's Identity. This is an excellent point. I think this just might be the reason why she can do it.
  16. That is different I think. Like pretty sure it does not have to be a Lightweaver. If you are touching someone's soul directly from this side you will get brief flashes. At that time Drehy was in Shadesmar though.
  17. I think so too. Thats why I was annoyed when I thought that they brought Formless back. It was good to know that it wasn't the case. I think the Substantiation is due to that. While her accessing Fortune is due to double bond. So similarly I think her manipulating Identity is also due to double bond. The persona with fake Identity should be enough and I don't think you need to swear fealty to him to show Intent. You just need to have the Intent to get Warlight which Shallan and her persona will have as they do want it. She just needs Retribution to believe that she is not of the "enemy" which she can fake. But I also think it's of no use currently as she is stuck in Shadesmar and I don't think it works there.
  18. Spiritual Realm is all places at once so that could be it. But it still sometimes described in terms of regions like how they say the area of Spiritual Realm is damaged where Ambition died. Also if the Iriali-Virtuosity theory should be believed then Virtuosity splintered long before WaT. The yellow colour then also maybe there due to the presence of Iriali on Roshar at that time and hence it is also missing from elsewhere as Iriali not there.
  19. So this is due to the incident that happened in Chapter 8 of WaT: So she removed a Lashing. Correct me if I am wrong but the only person who can remove a lashing is the one who applied it in the first place. So I imagine this has to be as the Identity of the Windrunner is linked to Investiture, so no one else can suck it back up. Shallan thinks "Be. Drehy." but even if she adapts the persona she is not copying the Spiritual Identity so it should be impossible for her to dismiss it. So how is she manipulating Identity as this not something that you can fool by just looking like Drehy. Is it due to her double bond? She can access Fortune because of it so maybe manipulating Identity is also because of it. It was also never brought up by Shallan again for the entire book. Like she did not even think about it... I mean I should not be surprised as she is extremely skilled at hiding from her own mind and is basically what she has been doing the entire series. I also wonder if the Identity manipulation thing is true, does that help with her having multiple personas? Like do Veil and Radiant have an Identity signature different from Shallan? And since Veil has now merged back does that no longer exist? Also can she manipulate only her own Identity or other's also? That would actually be too overpowered I think. She is overpowered anyways. Specially with making the things she imagines now real anyways. That is just Lightweaving combined with Soulcasting right?
  20. I mean thats a very valid point huh I never thought about it.... why point at it if its something we can see? I mean it could be just that it can be used to measure like the bearings as everyone cant just tell what direction 48degrees from that is.... But you argument does poke a big hole in this theory... So I am leaning towards it either being Ambition or smth related to Emberdark (i have no idea what it could be)? as shown in my previous comments.
  21. No, the distance is not trivial, but there are other ways for it to have constant heading. Both locations could be on Rhumb line, we can't know for certain. Rhumb lines cut across all meridians at same angle. Those are excellent finds. This causes a lot of problems. The different sun thing is very curious even apart from it affecting this problem, I want to to know what and why is it that way now. What does it say about the nature of the sun? Anyways lets focus on the problem on hand. It could still point at the sun, like the sun is basically a lodestone on each world and it will point towards it wherever it is based on which is closer and stuff like that (normal physics stuff so no worries about that). The constant heading can be solved easily, I can give 2 reasons: As stated before, they could be on a Rhumb line. The sun while local and it disappears after some point, is still at infinity. For even if it disappears (due to magic), you never actually reach it, its size or appearance never changes as you travel. It will never appear closer. And you will always have constant heading, as there will be no significant change in angle. The Yolen thing is once again sad and interesting all at once. Makes me wonder how is it shrouded and hidden, like there are a lot of fain life moving about doing deliveries and stuff. One could befriend them and get to know? or just follow them? Nazh is pretty good at that. So we can rule out Adonalsium's corpse. Ambition's corpse could be one and is a good idea, though I will prefer if it was D&D from Sel. It would explain (without relying on spiritual mumbo jumbo) why other Shard's death didn't cause the same thing as 2 shards were killed at the same place and then stuffed completely into Cognitive Realm where the Currents exist. Ambition can also be a very good explanation due to the damage done to the Spiritual Realm there. Evil could be the thing as in where Ambition's Investiture was stuffed. So, I tried to align it and if see it matches.... I mean one of them kind of does line up with threnody,(direction of scadrial had to be kind of sacrificed? it still works but not that good) this was always going to be a rough direction based game for planet level. I would say that it matches as that much error I think was expected and is acceptable. One of them also aligns with Nalthis, so its just the case of choose what feels right. None of it goes to Sel though so sad. And yes those are 2 lines inclined 48degress from the original path, you may have to zoom in a lot to see that. But I did plot where these lines would fall on Roshar and calculated them accurately so this one is a lot more exact and the most error you may get is upto 1 degree. Here is the result: So this seems to go to like nowhere important. Except well it could be going towards Origin. (So what is it the origin of? Sure its the highstorm and not the Current?) But there is a more interesting place that it crosses:
  22. My bad I didnt realize the point was not under the bullet point of theory. I have fixed it. What I meant to say was that the theory suggests it could also be pointing towards the sun and not that it was something in the book.
  23. I mean it feels weird that the Wind or someone else won't mention it as it mentioned other ancient sprens. I don't feel its a spren as the context of a god dying doesn't make sense with that. Anyhow we still need to try to pinpoint the place of the death of a god to figure out where it points.
  24. So the name of Grand Knell was first mentioned in WaT Ch 11: Currently there are 2 leading theories: The first one is, that it is due to Honor's death. Supporting arguments - it says "a god". The second one is that it is actually where Adonalsium died, as "the Current" through Shadesmar may be a cosmere wide phenomenon. It also says that it can be pointing towards the "sun" in Shadesmar which pulls everything towards it and would explain why its called the Current. There are also theories saying that the sun represents or is a like peek into Spiritual Realm as all Investiture is pulled towards it. How to get the location of this place? Well before it was named, we were given this info in Ch7 of WaT: This is what they use for navigating from Lasting Integrity to Azir. 48degrees from baseline. Using this we should be able to calculate 2 possible directions for the Grand Knell (as it does not state which direction from the baseline does it lie). I am using this interactive map of Roshar as it gives me a general sense and latitudes and longitudes if needed for calculations. I haven't run the actual numbers yet to see how the possible directions would look like (we can get every place lying in that direction using it). But I am currently estimating just 45 degrees on both sides in my head. Analysis on Theory 1 (Honor): So 1st theory, it points towards Honor's deathplace. There were theories that Honor's death happened at Origin, well clearly its not in that direction (Edit: I ran the numbers the picture is in one of the followups and it definitely points to Origin but Honor still did not die there so no) but from WaT we do know what Honor's death does not in fact happen there. Chapter 124 of WaT starts with him betraying Mishram, so probably at place where the betrayal took place. Then as the power is rejecting him, he tries to flee towards his nest with Cultivation. The nest is most probably in the Valley (or atleast nearby) as of her hiding there later and also due to this line in Ch 113 of WaT: So where did Mishram's betrayal take place? Well Dalinar speculates about it in Ch 85 of WaT. So assuming Dalinar's speculations are correct that means he died somewhere on the way in a forest from Shinovar to the Valley. Now I will probably need to run the numbers and plot it on map as it is close.. (if someone else wants to they are more than welcome to try) but in rough estimations I would say there is probably very less chance. Edit: After plotting the directions as shown in one followup below it does not point in that direction so definitely not Honor Analysis on Theory 2 (Adonalsium): So, if it like points in a random direction of no significance (which it seems to do to me) I would assume Adonalsium. Unless we get the location of Yolen on the star map I am afraid its not possible to trace it in that direction.(Edit: @alder24 found some proof which points against this in one of the followups below.) The other thing is the "sun" in Shadesmar. This will require some research (again you are more than welcome to try) to comb through books to see if its direction respective to literally any known location. (I hope it is mentioned somewhere) Yes, even Mistborn works (I am assuming its direction is constant throughout, I have no reason not to. Its the most logical assumption) we can trace it back to how it would be on Roshar using our knowledge about how Scadrial's Cognitive Realm is oriented with respect to Roshar. Any other theories, input, calculations I missed are welcome here.
