He nods. “That sounds good - I can shield the rest with Abstract’s automatic counter-Narration. I didn’t know you mine Nullite, actually. I thought you had to make it.”- 111830 replies

It’s fine. I’ll need something to procrastinate with, and this is as good as anything. Actually, I can’t use the shard on my school computer, so maybe it’ll be an incentive.

Both times? Would this be a note, or is it in person? “Oh, hello, Scribe. Good to see you.” @Halcyon The Only Rebus smiles broadly, glad he’s created a masterpiece.- 111830 replies

*shrug* We don’t get off from school, I don’t think. My classes will change, though, at least if I finish all the work I have before then. If not, I cannot do the new classes, and I’ll be really bored.

Rebus waves his hand to indicate he’s done with the presentation. He doesn’t have any idea who these to voices could be, but decides the relevant Author will likely tell him.- 111830 replies

In two weeks my semester will be over and I’ll no longer be in a time crunch (I hope). So if I got to decide, I’d say we start then. But if everyone else wants something different, that’s fine.

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Rebus spreads his arms and clouds of barely visible nanomachines billow out around him. They light up, showing what he imagines. Soaring arches arc together into a breathtaking building, a blend of classical and futuristic. An arcing bridge with no supports leaps over the river into a courtyard, curving paths stretching out into the park and woods beyond. Butterflies, birds, and other wildlife frolic in the natural space, Lady Bug’s employee insects leading Rebus to believe she can placate them. The entire place sparkles, medieval cobblestones and ornate silvery walls alike. Images of people shimmer into existence, their every need attended to by shimmering clouds of nanomachines. The images change, becoming scenes of the inside. People step through gateways to places far away, read in a wonderful library, conduct research in a somehow mystical-seeming laboratory with advanced equipment. Walls rearrange through nanomachines and conventional secret doors, filling visitors with awe, and ensuring that anything people would need to find is found. Suddenly, an image of a dragon swoops in from the sky. Shimmering protective walls block its fiery breath as it attacks, then archers fire arrows from the balconies. The projectiles fling out lines of light, connecting into a net that brings the attacking dragon down. A knight charges someone inside the building, and finds a wall in the way. Nanotech constructs led by bees peacefully take the attacker away to explain the reasoning behind the actions. A Narrator tries to turn the entire building to cheese, only to find the magic blocked and a glowing light cloud holding a platter for consolation. The message is clear; wonder, rest, assistance, and safety. Bright letters stretch across the sky: “Entoturis, coming soon.” Rebus chuckles. “My Author got pretty into that ad at the end. What do you think?”- 111830 replies

“I will.” Rebus says, having read the thought. “I couldn’t non-Narratively bring you back to life, but I can remove the venom despite the tattoos.” “Excellent. Where shall we build it? It’ll mostly be yours, but I shall assist.” A new character, Narrator, or Author, then, Rebus concludes. He’d keep an eye out for more incidents.- 111830 replies

“Bug tower, of course. Exactly your first suggestion.” Luckily for Bat, at least one other Author does like him. The snakes are all fast asleep, and would rather leave than bite if stepped on.- 111830 replies

Rebus considers it. “Perhaps, though you may want to translate it into Latin or Greek and garble it a bit. Entoturis, for instance. But most of the recurring locations have more descriptive names, like Onyx’s Realm, Nameless’s House, Sequence’s World, and the currently-unnamed-beach-that-the-buffet-gang-or-whatever-they’re-called-hangs-out-at.” In fact, there was a whole nest of vanishing snakes in the general vicinity. Nobody had noticed before now because they were harmless, generally nocturnal, and often invisible. This which was why the one Bat noticed had been asleep, after all.- 111830 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

Kion hold his arm out for the bag. “I’ll carry that; I don’t need free hands to fight.” Rebus nods and vanishes, assuming that Omen is not the type to speak further. You’re fighting people with incredible power. Tam was able to simply erase any trace of the radiation poisoning, and though your poison was harder to heal, they called in a favor from me and I extracted it. It’s interesting stuff; I had to fill Cricket to the brim with nanomachines to get it out. And Bat especially is both not your target and someone you should not mess with. He has many powerful friends, and is apparently developing powers. In general, unless it’s a last resort, don’t harm people you don’t need to. It makes people upset, and upset people cause problems. Rebus nods, sculpting his model to fit the new plan. “We’ll likely want a name for it and some sort of advertisement. And we should create it, of course.”- 111830 replies

I’d take an FTL drive… Ooh! I can be exploring this place to try to steal one! That sounds good. Is it one kind of aliens, or many? Are there interstellar politics? We don’t really need to know much about them, but the prevalence of other sapients could inform some decisions.

Kion is about to say something, but Palsu beats him to it, so he simply nods and hands him a cloth. One copy of him does appear there. “Omen, thank you for your help. I’ll think on the lessons I must learn, and will look with interest upon whatever hiring process you end up with.” The copy of Rebus who’d cured Cricket considers going to the wedding, but doesn’t. The other copies continue what they were doing. Rebus reaches out to Malevolence, sending a well-encrypted message to his computer. I see you have been busy while I was away. Your mentor does have a good conception of evil, but I think there are a few things missing. You and I have a lot in common, though not everything. For instance, I avoid giving everyone nearby radiation poisoning if I need to use overkill, and generally when I do, it will work. I wouldn’t say I’m evil, but I’ll give you some advice. The Render is still stuck in the Endless Field. It’s beginning to lose hope, honestly. Malevolence gets another message. This one is encrypted both magically and technologically. It says the following: Rebus’s eyes brighten as his soul comes back. He laughs inwardly that the technological concession is a single computer, but smiles, altering the model. “That could work… a hotel of sorts, where characters without residences could live. We could use fantasy aesthetics but futuristic capabilities, having ‘magical’ servants that are truly utility fog constructs. That would let us shield the place from excessive magic, protecting it.”- 111830 replies

Blood drips from Cole as he slams together a large ring of wind at ground level, aiming to shred everything within the fog with airborne grit and underbrush. The updraft crashes into him, and he heals back much of the life force.

I think I’ll be a miner-pirate-treasure hunter, who switches professions based on the state of his finances. Does that sound interesting? Can I get a space-mining ship (retrofitted for combat, of course)? How long shall the aliens have been around?

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

Rebus, unable to read the text without his soul, continues to look for similar incidents. When his soul - and knowledge of the posts of the Thread - returns, he raises an eyebrow at the description and the rabbit, preparing a few things. Then he switches to looking for someone with luck magic who is aligned with chaotic darkness. He shrugs. “Why will they go here instead of another beautiful place? We need to make this unique and useful so people will consistently want to come there, though beauty is not a downside.” Rebus smiles. “Thank you. Farewell, Dreamsmith. I may seek you out again, just for the company.” He nods, still smiling, and walks out the door. Every copy of Rebus stands up a little straighter, then lounges a little more causally. His eyes are brighter than before, details sharper. Knowledge and power, both old and new, flow back into each clone. He smiles wider as he returns to the real world, Abstract around him. Does he end up next to Omen again, in the chasm?- 111830 replies

A scale model palace made from nanomachines is assembled. “Why will people go there?” Rebus smiles wolfishly. “It’s perfect. It fits my name, my personality, my powers, my goals. You, sir, are a master of your craft.” He waves his hand through the air and feels his power, sharpened into Abstract. I’ll respond to other things in a little while.- 111830 replies

He grins. “That would be the question, wouldn’t it. Where is a silly concept here, regardless. I think we want to start with what.” Kion looks to make sure she hasn’t been hit by any falling rocks, then turns back to keep going (unless, of course, she has been). Oh no. It’s bee-ginning.- 111830 replies

P. 1309: “They had asked to stay. That group included the Husked One she’d seen the other night on the plateau, staring at the sky.” There’s a seemingly erroneous italic that starts in the middle of One. -

“It was rather entertaining, actually.” I know, though I perhaps didn’t communicate that well. I laughed upon seeing it, then forgot emojis and asterisks-reactions existed. Rebus actually brought Ryss back from the dead to determine how he became an Author.- 111830 replies

Rebus nods, unaware his Author froze him for a bit. “I tried to form a new standard location a while ago, but no one visited me. It doesn’t have to be a place, honestly. An organization, magic system, anything that multiple Authors use and acknowledge.” Well yes, but if Rebus killed me he’d have nobody to write him. If he could, he might kidnap me to have me write him all the time, but I’d think my way out of that situation. For instance, I could probably change Rebus’s personality enough to take advantage of his inexplicable influence on the real world, or get him to write himself.- 111830 replies
